Chapter 2080: Chapter 2080: Light-Year Distance (9)
The invaders managed to sneak in somehow, giving them barely any time to react. They bombed various sections from within, creating isolated, closed spaces.
Chuzheng and Inspector Yao split up for action.
Inspector Yao tried to make his way to the control room, while Chuzheng went to deal with the intruders that had snuck in.
Thick smoke lingered in the corridor, and apart from the piercing alarm sound and the occasional tremors and jolts from the ship being attacked, there was no other noise.
"Chuchu! Watch out!"
A shriek of terror came from behind.
Chuzheng saw a shadow behind her reflected in a nearby metal object. She instantly lowered her posture and slid powerfully backwards, sliding past the shadow.
Chuzheng raised her foot and kicked the opponent’s lower back.
Before Chuzheng could deliver another blow, a beam of light shot over, hitting the shadow and causing it to disappear into the light beam instantly.
Chuzheng: "..." Just once, can I get a chance to show my skills!
"Chuchu!"
Lu Zhaonian rushed over with a weapon, his face tense and worried.
"Are you okay?"
"Did you get hurt?"
A slew of questions burst forth from Lu Zhaonian, with a stance that seemed eager to check her over himself.
Probably due to his current relationship with Chuzheng, he restrained himself and didn’t make a move.
Chuzheng was silent for a few seconds, then responded sternly, "I’m fine."
Lu Zhaonian breathed a sigh of relief, "Where’s Inspector Yao?"
"In the control room." Chuzheng replied curtly.
Lu Zhaonian frowned and said, "We don’t know who these people are. Let’s regroup with the others first."
Chuzheng: "..."
-
Chuzheng made her way forward, seeing mostly corpses lying carelessly in the hallway corridors.
The once brightly lit spaceship was now filled with signs of devastation from battles everywhere.
The ship’s communication channel had completely failed, making contact with others impossible, including reaching the control room.
"Buzz...Buzz..."
The corridor lights on both sides flickered, with a tendency to gradually extinguish.
Chuzheng glanced upwards, then quickened her pace forward. In an adjacent chamber, many people were trapped, and Chuzheng easily got them out.
"Deputy Inspector Liang!"
Chuzheng’s eyes swept over them, "Encounter any intruders?"
"No... We’ve been trapped here from the start."
"Who are the invaders?"
"Why are they attacking us? This is in our Star Domain, who would dare be so bold?"
Chuzheng, "..."
Are you asking me? Who should I ask? I just wanted to quietly level up to become an Executor, who knew this would happen!
Perish the thought of winning effortlessly, apparently it won’t happen to a weak and helpless little victim like me.
"You all first..."
Before Chuzheng could finish speaking, the entire spaceship tilted to one side.
Someone glanced outside after falling and immediately shouted, "It’s bad, the spaceship is about to crash!"
"Get to the escape pods!" Chuzheng immediately directed them, "Stop gawking!"
The initially panicked crowd, seeing Chuzheng’s composure, quickly left in order.
Lu Zhaonian didn’t move, his gaze slightly complicated as he looked at Chuzheng.
The young girl he remembered had completely changed, familiar yet unfamiliar now.
She could handle things calmly and rationally without his help...
Lu Zhaonian snapped back to reality, gathered himself, and quickly left with the others.
-
The scorching sun baked the earth, and the heat visibly rippled in the air.
The ground was split with gorges, winding off into the distance.
Chuzheng sat on a rock, drinking water, with a broken-apart escape pod behind her.
They had barely reached the escape pod when the entire spaceship exploded.
Even Chuzheng couldn’t save anything with that speed.
She managed to throw more people into the escape pods before the explosion reached them.
Then...
Then she ended up here.
Having just left the Barren Star, the little victim was now back to square one.
Chuzheng tossed her empty bottle aside and looked around.
She was all alone here, not knowing if the others had landed elsewhere or...
Chuzheng tried contacting others using her personal terminal, but there was no response.
"Bastard, set up a navigation."
[Main Task: Obtain 10 Red Copper Crystals, limit of three days.]
Chuzheng: "..."
I’m asking you to set up a navigation, not to send me a task!
In the wilderness...
Wait!
Is there someone here?
That bastard wouldn’t issue a task in the middle of nowhere.
King’s Account issued a task and slowly provided a map navigation.
Chuzheng glanced at the game panel which had an exclamation mark, and opened it casually. The green dot representing a teammate was not far from her.
[Mainline: Player’s progress towards becoming Executor at 15%]
Exceeding ten percent, so the map can be viewed...
King’s Account’s map and the game’s map mostly overlapped, leading to the same destination.
Chuzheng compared the two maps; King’s Account’s was clearly more precise and sophisticated.
Tsk.
Chuzheng closed the map and started walking towards the direction indicated.
From where she landed, it took Chuzheng two days to reach the map’s endpoint.
She didn’t encounter a single living soul along the way, though she saw some escape pods, but they were empty inside.
Chuzheng stood atop a slightly elevated dune, gazing downwards.
Below was an Iron Town, looking extremely rundown but covering a large area.
"Hey!"
A child’s tender voice came from behind, prompting Chuzheng to look back.
A child clung to a limestone pillar, only revealing a dirty head, with black eyes both cautious and curious staring at her.
"Who are you, anyway?" the child asked, "What are you doing standing here?"
Chuzheng stepped down from the rocks, "Are you from around here?"
"..." The child shrank back a bit more, then suddenly turned and ran.
Chuzheng raised a hand, and the child fell with a thud, getting a mouthful of dirt.
The child scrambled up, looking at Chuzheng with a hint of dread.
Chuzheng approached and squatted down, taking out an Energy Biscuit to hand to him, "Here."
The child’s black eyes brightened, and he instinctively swallowed his saliva.
Chuzheng gestured for him to take it.
The child extended his hand but hesitated, pulling back, yet his eyes inevitably drifted towards the Energy Biscuit. Unable to resist temptation, he extended his hand again, nearly grabbing it, but suddenly withdrew it.
This repeated several times until Chuzheng’s arm grew tired, so she directly shoved it into his hand.
The child took the Energy Biscuit and backed away, peeling off the wrapper and devouring it ravenously.
"Are you from around here?"
The child nodded while gnawing.
Chuzheng sat beside him, "What’s happening inside?"
The child glanced at her, timidly asking, "Where did you come from?"
Chuzheng: "Imperial Capital Star."
Perhaps not understanding where Imperial Capital Star was, the child appeared a bit confused, then suddenly blurted, "I’ve seen others dressed like you."
Dressed like her? That should be people from the spaceship.
"Are they still alive?"
The child nodded and added, "But they’re locked up."
