Chapter 2124: Chapter 2124: Pirate King (15)
Bu Qing stood up to leave, but Chuzheng pulled him back.
The boy couldn’t steady himself and fell directly into Chuzheng’s arms.
Bu Qing, in a panic, tried to get up, but Chuzheng held him down and said, "Don’t move, let me check your wound."
Chuzheng adjusted her hold on him, grasping his wrist; the bandage was dirty, soaked with traces of blood.
The bandage was removed, and the wound hadn’t healed—it seemed to have worsened.
Chuzheng frowned slightly, "What’s going on? Why has it become like this? Who bullied you?"
Bu Qing quickly shook his head and gestured, which took Chuzheng several glances to understand.
It was likely that he accidentally let it get wet.
The bandage was dried by him, but the wound inside had touched the water, causing the deterioration.
Chuzheng looked at the grim wound, feeling upset, and with a cold expression, she cleaned it, applied fresh medication, and re-bandaged it.
Chuzheng held his wrist, lowered her head, and kissed the bandage, leaving the boy bewildered as he stared at her, his fingers curling, wanting to pull away.
But Chuzheng held him steady, her warm lips touching his hand like the fiery red glow of the sky, blazing against his skin, unbearably hot.
Bu Qing tugged at Chuzheng, noticing her side glance, shook his head, mist clouding his eyes.
Please don’t do this, he was dirty.
Chuzheng turned his palm over and kissed it too, then wrapped his hand around her waist, holding him close.
"Really not coming with me? I can give you a good life, everything you want, think it over."
Bu Qing’s palm dropped in the air, but the heat in his palm burned like an unstoppable wildfire, consuming his heart, his entire body felt like boiling blood.
His cheek pressed against Chuzheng’s heart, he could hear her heartbeat.
Each beat so steady and strong, as if injecting strength into him.
Slowly, he raised his hand and held onto the person in front of him.
But he still shook his head.
Chuzheng patted his head lightly, "Okay, but you can’t hide from me."
Just don’t think about running away.
Chuzheng showed she was a kind person, easy to talk to.
The boy hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
-
Bu Qing returned to the Zhou family, arriving a bit late, which seemed to annoy the people there.
"Why did it take you so long to wash the clothes? Were you lazing around outside?"
Bu Qing lowered his head and shook it.
"Don’t think just because you were sent to the Sea God Temple that you’re special. The master wants you to go over, you..."
"Steward, let me go," a slave suddenly ran over, "I’ve found the master’s favorite wine and want to deliver it to him."
Zhou Feng loved wine, known by all the Zhou family.
For someone bringing him fine wine, even if a slave, Zhou Feng was generous.
The steward paused, "Fine, you go first."
"Steward, go with me, I’m a bit scared without you."
If he went, he’d receive a reward too.
The steward glanced at the slave twice, curious why he hadn’t noticed such sensibility before.
"Fine." The steward didn’t bother troubling Bu Qing, "Get on with your work!"
Bu Qing lowered his head, waited for them to leave.
He picked up the clothes in the basin and started to hang them. As soon as he finished one, the slave from earlier returned.
"I’ll help you." He came over to assist, "You’re injured, right? Let me do this work for you."
Bu Qing found his behavior strange, glancing in the direction they left.
Suspicion rose whether someone was purposefully trying to trouble him.
"Don’t worry, the steward went to deliver wine to the master, won’t be back soon. You go sit over there, I’ll hang these."
No matter what Bu Qing did, this slave, not very familiar to him, kept rushing to help.
Which resulted in Bu Qing finding himself with not much work left.
Initially, Bu Qing thought it was a new ploy from Zhou Feng, but as days passed, he noticed nothing peculiar.
-
"Why the noise outside?" Chuzheng opened the door, asking Zhuang Ping’s wife in the yard.
Zhuang Ping’s wife said, "Looks like they caught the slaves who escaped before."
Chuzheng: "..."
How long has it been? How could those people hide so well?
Chuzheng thought this matter unrelated to her, yet soon the pirates came knocking.
Without explanation, grabbed the Zhuang Ping couple and took them away.
Chuzheng wasn’t there at the time, arriving back to hear the news. The couple had been seized, leaving only their infant crying breathlessly in the side room.
Zhuang Ping had helped her with many things, spending generously, such a good assistant being caught, she couldn’t tolerate this!
Moreover, they were caught because of her.
Captured slaves testified about the recent events, describing Zhuang Ping’s characteristics, leading to his recognition.
"Ungrateful wretch."
Chuzheng cursed softly, picked up the vigorously crying infant, harshly said, "Why are you crying, your parents aren’t dead yet."
The infant cried even louder.
Chuzheng pulled out a gold ingot, the infant stopped crying, tried to bite the gold, found it hurt his teeth, not edible, and started crying again.
Chuzheng: "!!!"
Chuzheng panicked.
After hesitating, Chuzheng guessed he might be hungry.
"I’ll take you to find your mom, stop crying."
Chuzheng hugged the infant outside, his cries were like alarms, drawing everyone’s attention.
"Who is she?"
"Haven’t seen... is she holding Zhuang Ping’s child?"
"I saw her come out of Zhuang Ping’s house, is she the person the Island Master captured?"
"!!!"
Chuzheng moved steadily towards the island’s center plaza, amid the residents’ discussions.
Zhuang Ping and his wife were hanging in the plaza, seemingly not much tortured yet.
Many islanders surrounded, pointing at them, discussing—about how daring to harbor runaway slaves.
The Great Island Lord took a whip from a subordinate, fiercely struck the ground, "Where is that woman? Speak, and spare your life."
Zhuang Ping’s wife’s face was drained of color, lips trembling, about to speak.
Zhuang Ping said, "Great Island Lord, we truly don’t know..."
Their child hadn’t been brought; getting caught for hiding people was a definite death sentence.
The Great Island Lord’s promise of sparing them was not to be believed.
He couldn’t talk now, maybe that girl would see this and save his child’s life.
If he spoke... his entire family would soon perish.
Zhuang Ping, fearful, yet his mind clear.
"Crack!"
The whip struck Zhuang Ping, the Great Island Lord used seventy, eighty percent strength, one whip almost took Zhuang Ping’s life.
"Crack!"
The whip swung again.
Yet the crowd didn’t hear the sound, the Great Island Lord’s whip seemed frozen in the air.
The scene was eerie.
The surrounding chatter ceased.
After silence fell, the baby’s cries were notably distinct.
People cleared a path.
At the end of the crowd, a girl carrying a bamboo basket walked from afar, inside the basket was the loudly wailing infant.
