*Rattle~*
The wagon rattled along the dirt road as it made its way from Raven Town toward their next destination—
Cinder Town.
Daniel sat alone at the rear of the wagon, a healing potion in hand, his back resting against the wooden wall as faint arcs of electricity continuously crackled across his body.
A layer of wooden boards had been fastened to the front of the wagon to keep the wagoner a safe distance away from the stray lightning.
"Something’s happening to my body," Daniel murmured, staring at his palm.
A strange sensation pulsed through it — not pain, not numbness.
It reminded him of the tingling feeling in a leg after sitting in one position for too long, except this sensation was stronger... and alive, as though tiny currents of electricity were flowing beneath his skin.
Daniel’s comrades and Marco rode in the wagon ahead, leading the convoy toward Cinder Town.
His thoughts drifted back to the aftermath of the duel.
...
"He’s in a stable condition. I’m just not sure how long it’ll take for him to wake up," Queena said, resting her palm against Ronick’s forehead.
"What?!" Beck exclaimed. "We have healing potions. Why can’t they wake him up?"
"This isn’t a physical injury," Queena replied. "It’s something else."
...
A flood of memories resurfaced as Daniel gazed at the scenery ahead.
The once-pale trees had given way to lush greenery. Brilliant blue-leaved trees stretched across the landscape, while giant orange-capped mushrooms, some towering as high as houses, rose from the forest floor like pillars.
Hours later, they arrived at Cinder Town, its towering stone gate adorned with colorful gems and intricate carvings.
"Welcome to Cinder Town, Master Marco and young shamans," the mayor greeted them warmly. Behind him stood several attendants, each holding a neatly folded white cloth.
Marco returned the greeting with a polite smile.
Each of the young shamans was then handed a white scarf embroidered with small blue mushroom patterns.
"Please, follow me," the mayor said, his tone warm and welcoming.
Daniel was instructed to walk at the back of the group, keeping a safe distance so his stray lightning wouldn’t accidentally zap anyone.
Even so, whenever curious villagers wandered too close, arcs of lightning leaped from Daniel’s body and gave them an unexpected shock.
"Ow!"
"What was that?!"
Startled, the villagers quickly backed away, stealing wary glances at Daniel. The attention only made him feel more uncomfortable.
"Agh! Hey, mister!" a little boy yelped, jerking his hand back after a tiny spark zapped him.
"Sorry," Daniel apologized.
A few minutes later, they crossed the marketplace and arrived at the training grounds, where a towering white mushroom-shaped building stood at its center, surrounded by a forest of blue-leaved trees.
"Master, why are the trees blue?" Molex asked curiously.
"They’re called Mystic Trees," the mayor replied with a warm smile. "Their sap is a valuable ingredient used to brew potions and craft various magical items."
He glanced around at the students.
"Any more questions?"
Daniel quietly kept his ears open, listening to the conversation.
"What about the mushrooms?" Tridon asked with a curious expression. "Why are they orange?"
"They’re called Saffrooms," the mayor explained, pointing toward the towering mushrooms in the distance. "They’re known as the Kings of Mushrooms and can only be found in Cinder Town."
His expression turned serious.
"Do not eat them, even the smaller ones growing nearby. They can cause severe hallucinations or in worst cases... they can be fatal."
Several of the young shamans swallowed hard after hearing the warning.
Just then, two women stepped out of the mushroom-shaped building.
One wore a flowing green robe, her long blonde hair swaying gently behind her. The other had striking half-black, half-red hair and was dressed in a scarlet-colored robe.
"Students," the mayor said with a welcoming smile, "meet Elira and Cinderela."
Daniel’s eyes widened the moment he saw Elira.
Across from him, Elira froze for a brief moment, her eyes widening as their gazes met.
"Status," he whispered under his breath.

Following the mayor’s introduction, the young shamans did the same, each taking turns to greet them with a handshake.
Daniel, however, remained where he was.
"Very well, Master Marco. I’ll leave the rest to you," the mayor said with a polite nod before taking his leave.
*Clap Clap!*
"My students, let’s not waste any time," Marco said in a firm voice. "We’ll begin today’s training immediately."
Then, his gaze shifted to Daniel.
"Daniel, come here for a second."
...
"Come on! Focus, everyone!" Marco shouted as he walked among his students, correcting their stances and techniques.
Bernard and Zushio stood before a metal plate, repeatedly pressing their palms against it as they did their best to master the Fourth Form of Lightning.
The remaining students trained with wooden, human-shaped dummies, their staffs and spells echoing across the training grounds.
Meanwhile, Daniel sat alone in a far corner beneath the shade of a Mystic Tree.
Blue leaves drifted gently from above, carried by the breeze, while faint arcs of lightning continuously crackled around his body.
He remained perfectly still.
Meditating...
Yet, despite his calm posture, a noticeable tent had formed in his pants.
His squinted eyes lingered on Elira, as though seeing through the fabric of her green robe while she casually chatted with Cinderela on a nearby bench.
