Chapter 130: This Really Is an Accident

Chapter 130: Chapter 130: This Really Is an Accident

The moment he left the [Thought Realm], Lloyd felt something in his hand. He quickly looked down and saw it was indeed that pretty little cake, covered in a layer of fruit-flavored mousse, but missing the cherry that had been on top.

"Meow..."

The little kitten lying by the pillow meowed in its squeaky voice, reminding Lloyd that it was still awake. Its round eyes were staring intently at the cake.

"Fine, fine. You get a share."

Lloyd smiled, went out to get the kitten’s little milk bowl, broke off half the cake, and put it inside. Man and cat shared the cake.

Although the cake was fragrant and delicious, sweet but not greasy, Lloyd’s mind wasn’t on it. Instead, he was pondering tonight’s seminar.

’The new game mechanics in the Dream Theater; the Redemption Saint is in pain; there’s no turning back on the Path of the Extraordinary; the [prophecy] Jenkins spoke of, obtained at a great price; and that bafflingly abrupt end to the whole thing.’

It was a lot of information. Lloyd noted it all down, intending to mull it over later.

At the same time, he sincerely hoped the other four were alright, that nothing bad would happen to them, and that they would recover soon.

After all, they could be considered kindred spirits to some extent, and he was looking forward to more cooperation in the future.

’Although it’s still too early to talk about "future Destiny" or "breaking our chains," who’s to say the fate of humanity won’t begin to change right here?’

’Speaking of which, what was that [prophecy] Jenkins mentioned? Some special kind of [Divination]?’

’I can ask next time I get the chance. For now, it’s time for bed.’

’Let’s do our best. Maybe the future of humanity really is in our hands.’

Lloyd said to himself, burrowed under the covers, and habitually glanced at his panel.

[Unread Books: *Book of Truth, Volume I*. Current Reading Progress: 14.6%]

Huh?

’Why has the reading progress for the *Book of Truth* gone backward again?’

’And by more than last time?’

’Was it consumed as a [consciousness seed] again? But I didn’t even activate [Blessing Distortion]...’

Lloyd was puzzled. He closed his eyes, frowned, and carefully searched his memory, vaguely sensing something.

So he quickly returned to the [Thought Realm] and began carefully examining the grass under his feet, inch by inch.

Finally, in the dead, gray soil at the edge, he saw four new sprouts breaking through the earth. They were emitting a very familiar Spiritual Energy.

His own Spiritual Energy...

These were the [Seeds of Distortion] he had scattered. After establishing some kind of connection with him, they had manifested in the [Thought Realm] as new sprouts.

Lloyd carefully lowered his head and observed them closely.

’If I’m not mistaken, these represent the four members of the seminar...’

"But I didn’t use the skill on them at all! Why did this happen? Could it be... the effect of that scrolling comment?"

A wave of guilt washed over Lloyd. It was truly an accident; he had absolutely no intention of harming them.

He quickly reached out, wanting to dig the seeds out.

But a strange Intuition in his mind warned him that it would be best not to...

’It’s true, the skill description doesn’t mention what would happen if a [Seed of Distortion] is forcibly removed, let alone how to remove it.’

’It probably isn’t as simple as just getting rid of these sprouts...’

Lloyd had no choice but to try a different approach.

’Well then, the only thing to do now is to settle for the next best thing: minimizing the impact of the [Twist] on them as much as possible.’

’Hmm... I can control the general direction and speed of the [Twist]...’

He then activated his [Blessing Distortion] skill, and the four young sprouts on the ground trembled slightly.

Lloyd then felt several slender threads appear in his mind, finer than strands of hair, yet capable of extending to faraway places.

He thought for a moment, then reached out and gently touched the first sprout, the [Seed of Distortion] representing Jenkins.

"I hope you regain consciousness and pull yourself together."

Lloyd said in a low voice.

Although he didn’t know what Jenkins’ life was like in the real world, he always felt the man was a bit too despondent, not at all like a High-ranking Powerhouse.

’Maybe he suffered some kind of heavy blow?’

So Lloyd set the direction of his [Twist] to ’fortitude,’ and the magnitude and speed to ’extremely low.’

’A [Twist] doesn’t have to develop in a bad or negative way; it can also unfold in a more optimistic direction.’

Besides, considering that the target’s Attributes and mental state would also affect the [Seed of Distortion]’s effect, and Jenkins was a Tier Five after all with a decent mental state, this level of [Twist] should be something he could easily overcome.

Next, Lloyd reached out to touch the second sprout, the [Seed of Distortion] representing Goldrinn.

"I hope you regain consciousness and become more cautious."

Goldrinn didn’t usually say much, but when he did, it was often shocking—things like carrying away someone else’s tree or pocketing public property. To Lloyd, he seemed like the quiet, reckless type.

So he hoped the man would become a bit more cautious. Of course, the magnitude and speed were also set to extremely low; with his Tier Four level and mental state, he should be able to overcome it too.

Next was Balderes. Lloyd hesitated for a moment.

’This was actually an opportunity to make Balderes absolutely loyal to me. If I [Twist]ed him in that direction, his intelligence could be mine to command.’

But Lloyd shook his head, abandoning the malicious thought.

He just hoped Balderes would recover quickly and become a little more humble.

The guy’s speech and behavior gave off an air of arrogance, and he was always throwing around words like ’mediocrity’ and ’idiot,’ which easily offended people.

’It would be good if he could become a bit more humble.’

However, he was a Tier Four, after all. A change like that would probably take a very long time to manifest.

Finally, it was Elolo’s turn.

In consideration of her delicious cake, Lloyd hoped she would become stronger. She was an Extraordinary Being who had completed her Enlightenment, after all; she shouldn’t always be sniffling and crying.

"Sorry, this is the best I can do for now. After all, I can only influence the vague, general direction, not the details..."

As he spoke, Lloyd ’conjured’ four glass covers and placed them over the four sprouts to prevent them from interfering with each other.

"I hope this ends well. Or that I can hold out until I become stronger and can intervene more subtly, or even remove it completely."

The directions he had designated, like ’fortitude’ and ’caution,’ were far too vague and broad. Even he didn’t know what the final results would be.

’Maybe Jenkins will pull himself together, only to go dabble in the Taboo System and become an outlaw...’

’Maybe Goldrinn’s "caution" will manifest as checking the faucet a dozen times before bed, while still going off to uproot trees from other people’s yards...’

’Balderes might develop a kind of humblebragging "humility," and Elolo might become "stronger" at throwing punches...’

Lloyd could only hope that the influence on them would be as slow as possible, while his own growth would be fast enough for him to control this accident before it caused a major disaster.

’In any case, I hope they’ll be okay...’

............

"Miss? Miss, what’s wrong? Weren’t you changing your clothes? Why did you suddenly fall asleep on the floor?"

Elolo, still groggy, felt someone gently patting her face. With great effort, she squinted one eye half-open, revealing a sliver of a light blue iris.

"Ugh... Miss Xie... I... I’m fine..."

Elolo said weakly, rubbing her head, which was numb with pain, as she sat up from the carpet.

She actually wanted to lie down and rest a little longer, at least until the headache faded.

But her body propped itself up and moved on its own accord.

Her personal maid, who was responsible for her daily care, quickly helped her to the nearby bed to sit down, then asked:

"What about the piece of cake that was prepared for you earlier? Did you eat it?"

’Why is Miss Xie concerned about something like that?’

Elolo thought groggily, nodded slightly, and then slowly opened her other eye, revealing a deep blue iris.

She had heterochromia, though the contrast between her eyes wasn’t that stark.

Then, she fiddled with the silver-white Dazed Hair on top of her head that curved into an arc, glanced down at the pajama top and outdoor skirt she was wearing, and gradually began to recall what had happened.

’I think... I saw something incredible? And then I passed out...’

’Sob... so scary... I don’t dare look again...’

’But I didn’t even see anything clearly. I have to seize the opportunity next time...’

Strange, even contradictory thoughts flooded her mind.

But she didn’t realize anything was wrong. She lifted her head slightly and looked at the ceiling of her room.

On it was a cartoon-style starry sky, with a few glittering gold stars arranged in a curious pattern.

"Miss Xie, can you ask Dad for me to change the ceiling?"

Elolo said suddenly.

For some reason, she suddenly disliked the cartoon starry sky pattern.

’Maybe it’s because I’ve been looking at it for too many years and I’m tired of it?’

However, the maid, who was usually so accommodating, actually shook her head and replied without hesitation:

"I’m very sorry, Miss, but I’m afraid that’s not possible."

"Eh? Why not?"

"There is no reason. Nothing in this house is allowed to be changed. And please believe me, this is all for your own good..."

The maid said, pressing down on Elolo’s shoulders and tucking her into bed.

"It’s late. Please get some rest. You have Mrs. Haima’s class tomorrow morning."

With that, the maid turned off the lights, left the room, and locked the door from the outside.

"B-but..."

Elolo lay under the covers, wanting to say more but trailing off.

"I just regained consciousness..."
