Chapter 150: Chapter 150: New Member
When Lloyd heard the words "popular tourist attraction," he couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
It felt like places such as "Arkham" and "Mizkakotok University" were the equivalent of Earth’s primeval forests, undersea civilizations, or the dark side of the moon. They were places that even experts and scholars in related fields didn’t fully understand, yet they had somehow become pilgrimage sites in creative works.
’Perhaps it’s precisely this mystery and the unknown that inspire people to create so enthusiastically around them?’
The brother and sister chatted casually for a while longer before heading to their own rooms to sleep.
Lloyd curled up under the covers, cupping the amethyst earring in his hands. After a short wait, Weiya’s voice came from within it.
’This has become a daily routine...’
He chatted with Weiya for a bit more, and after they wished each other goodnight, Lloyd had planned to go straight to sleep. But on second thought, he entered his Thought Realm and summoned the Tentacle Grass.
He felt he should hold an emergency meeting to check on everyone’s condition; otherwise, he’d be too worried.
’What if Jenkins "cheered up" and became some cringey try-hard, Goldrinn became "cautious" like that one Cautious Hero, Balderes became "humble" and turned into a Dragon King’s Son-in-law, or Elolo became "tough" and transformed into a Fairy Boxer? That would be a huge problem. This whole meeting would probably be doomed...’
And so, just three days later, Lloyd once again pressed the "Go Live" button. A black and white Chessboard immediately appeared on the screen before him, and then several chess pieces materialized on it, each clad in their respective attire.
This time, however, Elolo wasn’t wearing her little pink dress. Instead, she had on a fancy, ornate blue formal hat.
’The fact that the meeting could still be convened smoothly means everyone’s mental state isn’t too terrible, right? At least they’re conscious.’ This realization allowed Lloyd to relax considerably.
However, when he took a more serious look, he blinked hard and shook his head.
One, two, three, four, five...
’Why is there an extra piece on the Chessboard?’
The piece was a White Soldier, and it wasn’t wearing any clothes, which was rather indecent.
Lloyd initially thought it was a newcomer Jenkins had recruited, but when he saw the newcomer’s name, he nearly jumped out of his skin.
’Eske Mir’
’The Advisor...’
’How did the Advisor sneak into the meeting? Isn’t he half-dead?’
Lloyd instantly grew tense.
But he looked more closely and saw that the texture and color of the White Soldier piece were somewhat flickering and dim, like a bad signal. The aura it exuded was also extremely weak.
He then looked at the Advisor’s "profile."
It showed that the Advisor was in a place called a "Space Fragment," and his form was a large mass of tangled red threadworms that looked like earthworms dug up by an angler.
His systems were dual Eighth Tier in [Curse] and [Calamity]—an astonishing level of power—but there was no mention of the [Twist] system.
Besides this basic information, which everyone else had, the profile also included a final line of reminder:
"This being is in a near-death state. Rescue is recommended as soon as possible."
’Rescue my ass!’
Lloyd cursed inwardly, frantically searching the screen for a "Kick" button.
It turned out that among the huge pile of flashy, useless functions—which even included "Advertise," "Cyberbully," and "Sell Porn"—there was no option related to "Kicking" a member.
"Hurry up and add a kick function for me," Lloyd said to his "project manager."
But the Tentacle Grass just gave a very human-like shrug and spread its newly grown "hands," seeming to express its powerlessness.
"You can’t even satisfy this one client request? I don’t think you should be a project manager anymore," Lloyd threatened.
The Tentacle Grass could only look dejected. It used two of its new, small tentacles to mimic a human wiping away tears, looking pitifully like a programmer suffering from workplace bullying.
’It seems the "kick" function really can’t be added, most likely because I’m not the true owner of this Chessboard.’
’Maybe only Jenkins can kick people? I’ll have to drop some hints and suggest it to him indirectly.’
Just as Lloyd was carefully considering his words, Jenkins, on the Chessboard, was letting his imagination run wild.
’The Supreme One bypassed me and pulled in a new member directly?’
Obviously, he had mistaken the appearance of the extra White Soldier as an act of the mysterious Supreme One.
As the owner of the [Chessboard], Jenkins could vaguely sense the conditions of others. From this "newcomer," he sensed only "terror" and "weakness."
A terror so profound it was beyond his comprehension, something he could not look at directly.
Yet also a weakness so severe that the being was on the verge of death, its life hanging by a thread.
’Is this powerful being a vassal of the Supreme One?’
’Did his reawakening not go smoothly? Is that why he’s so weak?’
’Did the Supreme One bring him into the meeting because He wants us to help with the reawakening?’
A series of deductions unfolded in Jenkins’s mind.
The other three members had similar suspicions. Judging by the White Soldier’s flickering appearance, they deduced that his condition must be terrible and that he might need some help.
But they couldn’t sense the newcomer’s level of power, so Black War Chariot Goldrinn was the one to speak up and ask,
"Your Excellency, Black Soldier, this new member is..."
"A terrifyingly powerful being. At least an Eighth Tier Deputy."
Jenkins said in a low voice, secretly glancing at the silent Supreme One beside him before continuing with his speculation,
"He is likely a vassal of the Venerable, currently in a state of crisis and in need of our help."
"An Eighth Tier expert?" asked White Knight Balderes from the side, somewhat dazed.
’An Eighth Tier expert is on a completely different level from me. It’s a rank I can’t even comprehend.’
’What help could a tiny Tier Four shrimp like me possibly offer in a crisis involving an expert of that caliber? I’d be less than a snack for whatever he’s up against.’
White Bishop Elolo also chimed in,
"He can have an Eighth Tier expert as a vassal? The Venerable is so amazing... If I became the Venerable’s vassal too, could I also become an Eighth Tier expert? Hmm... too bad I already ate my little cake for today."
Lloyd had been trying to figure out how to hint to Jenkins to kick the guy out without blowing his cover, but after hearing their discussion, he almost lost his composure.
’The Advisor is my vassal?’
’And you guys are planning to help him?’
’So are we actually becoming some nefarious underground organization now?’
He was completely dumbfounded, no longer having any idea how to hint for Jenkins to kick the man out.
’But on second thought,’ he mused, ’since it’s awkward to say anything, why not take advantage of this misunderstanding and bluff my way through it?’
’It should work. The Advisor won’t be recovering anytime soon anyway; his consciousness is barely even there.’
’Let him make a small contribution to the brand new future of humanity!’
