Leveling Up by Executing Monsters
Chapter 83: Another Strange Misunderstanding?Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Another Strange Misunderstanding?
"Sis, have you ever considered getting into the mysterious and Extraordinary Realm?"
Lloyd asked suddenly.
"Huh???"
Evelor frantically waved her hands and shook her head, her tone resolute.
"No way, no way, absolutely not! Yi, why are you asking me this too? You know I hate studying more than anything."
"Oh? So other people have asked you about this?"
Evelor replied, exasperated.
"Yeah, Mr. Randolph and Ms. Landis have both asked. They even said I’m very talented in this area and were willing to be my Mentor, but I turned them all down."
’Huh... Even people in High Positions think my sister’s that talented?’
’What’s this all about?’
’My sister, Evelor, has the makings of a powerhouse?’
’Is my sister’s talent really that monstrous?’
Lloyd couldn’t help but let his imagination run wild.
’With her talent for raising her Attributes just by being a magazine editor, reaching a High Position would be a piece of cake. And with her hardworking younger brother—me—by her side, we’d be a family with two powerhouses. We could jump social classes, become an elite family, dominate a region, recruit tons of disciples, found our own sect, bully the innocent, exploit the common folk, murder people for their treasures, and flaunt our powers before the masses...’
’Ahem, I’m getting sidetracked. Where are all these web novel plots coming from?’
Lloyd quickly shook his head, shutting down these bizarre daydreams.
Since his sister wasn’t interested in the world of the mysterious and extraordinary, he certainly wouldn’t push her. He just wanted her to be able to do what she loved.
’That’s what I’m working so hard for, after all.’
...
As Lloyd stepped out of the "subway" tunnel that day, he saw Weiya’s lovely figure, just as he’d expected.
He went over to say hello, then asked:
"Weiya, do you know of any ways to communicate over long distances? The more private kind."
He was still quite curious about the chessboard from last night. It was a truly miraculous item, allowing people from different cities to gather and communicate. It even had a remote trading function and could transfer Knowledge Fragments.
’Felt like one of the legendary Holy Artifacts. Of course, it could also be some kind of high-end Orbit.’
He wasn’t sure, so Lloyd decided to probe a little.
"Oh?"
Weiya’s eyes widened slightly before she quickly looked away. Tilting her head, she asked in a soft, quiet voice:
"Why... why do you ask?"
"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking it would be convenient for staying in touch if I ever have to travel far from the city."
Lloyd casually made up an excuse.
A faint smile touched the corners of Weiya’s lips, but she suppressed it before Lloyd could notice, reverting to her usual business-like tone.
"The Saint’s Favor Court should have something like that. I can ask around for you."
"Great. Thanks, I appreciate it."
As he spoke, Lloyd took out the small kitten and placed it in Weiya’s arms.
"Meow meow meow?"
The small kitten let out a questioning meow.
Lloyd then changed the subject.
"By the way, are you interested in that popular Orbit on the market, Intense Concentration?"
"Well... it’s an Orbit that’s great for studying, so of course I’m interested. But the core components are just so expensive..."
Weiya replied with a hint of regret before immediately asking:
"Why the sudden question?"
"It’s nothing. I just had a few half-baked ideas after using that Orbit a couple of times. I haven’t tested them yet, but I’ll fill you in once I figure things out. For now, just think of it as a little surprise."
Lloyd explained simply and didn’t go into detail.
He wouldn’t dare recommend the White Knight’s modified design to anyone else without personally verifying it first.
"A little surprise..."
Weiya murmured, her head bowed slightly. Her large gray eyes seemed to sparkle, and her gaze grew exceptionally soft.
"That’s right. Life needs little surprises to keep things interesting."
The two chatted casually as they walked, continuing their easy conversation until they entered Tower Nine.
As was his habit, Lloyd headed straight for the notice board. He was surprised to find five keys remaining, all for the -3 floor.
’Five of them came at once?’
This was the first time Lloyd had encountered such a situation.
The vast majority of Demons imprisoned in the Eighteenth District were Demon Ghosts; those who were Out of Control were extremely rare. The methods of the Saint’s Grace Court were quite formidable.
These Demon Ghosts mainly came from the remote areas around Radiant City, especially resource points like mines, logging camps, and farms, which were harassed by Demon Ghosts almost daily.
Their individual strength, numbers, and danger level weren’t high, but their daily appearances were incredibly vexing.
That’s why organizations like the Fifth District Crusaders are stationed directly in those remote regions.
When they capture a Demon, a high-level expert on site temporarily Vetoes its mobility and the Spiritual Contamination it emits. The Demon is then sent to the rear for execution and, more importantly, reclamation.
Otherwise, the garrisons there wouldn’t be able to withstand the Spiritual Contamination from such frequent attacks.
After all, the burst of Spiritual Contamination upon killing a Demon is the most intense part, and there’s no way to Veto or evade that final, death-throe backlash.
’Perhaps it’s because that final burst of Spiritual Contamination can’t be comprehended?’
In any case, in the month-plus Lloyd had been here, this was the first time he’d seen five danger level 3s appear at once.
’Looks like a nearby mine was hit by a larger-scale attack.’
’I hope our people over there are all right.’
Lloyd offered a silent prayer and took all five keys from the board.
’And here I was, worrying about not having enough Madness Value...’
Lloyd turned to leave, but suddenly heard people behind him discussing him:
"Uh... He took all five keys for the -3 floor? Is that the strength and confidence of Senior Lloyd?"
"I hear he despises evil. He doesn’t just take the -3 floor keys, sometimes he even grabs the ones for the -2 floor. That’s why everyone just snatches up keys the moment they’re posted now."
"He certainly despises evil, but won’t the mental strain be immense for him?"
"You don’t have to worry about him for that. He’s a real Executioner, not an apprentice like us."
"Sigh... It’s a shame Senior Lloyd is so withdrawn and strange. He won’t let us observe his execution and dissection techniques. I heard a lecturer in one of the open classes say his methods are exquisite, practically masterful, and that we should all try to learn from him."
"It seems so. Besides being close to Judge Weiya, he doesn’t seem to have any other friends?"
Lloyd didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at their discussion.
’Despising evil’ is one thing, but ’withdrawn and strange’? What kind of bizarre misunderstanding is that?
’I’m a perfectly cheerful and outgoing young man! The only reason I don’t let you watch is because I’m afraid you can’t handle the Spiritual Contamination from the -3 floor.’
As Lloyd was defending himself in his mind, a wild idea suddenly popped into his head.
’Could I let them observe, and then absorb the Spiritual Contamination they receive?’
’That way, I’d earn more Madness Value, they’d learn execution techniques, and the Demon would get an audience. A win-win-win.’
But a moment later, another thought struck him, and he realized a problem:
’However... to absorb Spiritual Contamination, I need to have physical contact with people, and the more intimate, the better...’
’I wouldn’t mind getting close to a great beauty like Weiya, but most of the Executors here are men. It’d probably cause some misunderstandings, wouldn’t it?’
’Is there a way to do it without physical contact? Or maybe a way to make contact at a distance?’
While Lloyd pondered this in his mind, he cleanly and efficiently finished today’s work, pocketing both Madness Value and bounty.
Afterward, he returned to his office to perform his ’Three-Day Check-in’—attempting to analyze the Unknown Fragment.

"This feeling of improving and getting stronger every day... it’s amazing..."
Lloyd murmured in appreciation, then headed to the quartermaster’s office. He placed a list of materials in front of the Military Supply Priest, Andrew, and asked:
"Could you take a look at this for me? Are these items hard to get?"
On it were the materials needed for the White Knight’s new design.
"Hmm?"
Andrew scratched his head as he looked at the list, then asked:
"These are from the City of Serenity, right?"
"I’m not sure. I found it in an old notebook on Orbital Mechanics at a second-hand book market."
Lloyd explained, using his classic excuse.
"Ugh... You actually take the stuff you find there seriously?"
Andrew grumbled, but his tone quickly changed.
"But that’s none of my concern. Aside from the common Soothing Incense and Spiritual Ink, the other three items are specialties from the City of Serenity. They aren’t covered by our ’material allowance’...
In other words, they might be difficult to requisition."
"I know. So, can you get them?"
"Of course. And the service fee isn’t too high..."
Andrew grinned.
So the two began a simple round of haggling and finally settled on the number ’35,000’.
It was a bit steep, and Lloyd felt the sting, but it was still far, far cheaper than the bell itself.
He didn’t haggle much with Andrew, nor did he ask exactly how much of that was the ’service fee’.
Of course, he would definitely find a way to cross-check the prices from multiple sources later.
This first transaction would serve as a test of both parties’ trustworthiness.
