Chapter 93: I’ll Spare You For Today

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: I’ll Spare You For Today

"Pass out? A great idea!"

The White Knight, Balderes, was the first to act on Goldrinn’s suggestion. A moment later, a muffled grunt was heard:

"Urk..."

Then the horse-headed chess piece toppled over on the board, swayed twice, and vanished.

’It worked!’

The Black Soldier, Jenkins, immediately shouted as well:

"If you don’t have a way to knock yourself out, concentrate your Spiritual Power and strike your own mind!"

This was undoubtedly excruciating, no less painful than snapping off your own pinky finger. It was also incredibly dangerous. One wrong move could regress your mind to that of a three-year-old.

But there were no better options at the moment.

Jenkins immediately gathered his Spiritual Power and struck himself with it.

HUMMM—

He felt as if a thousand needles were being driven into his brain, and the agony made him pass out on the spot.

The Black Soldier piece promptly toppled over on the board and vanished.

Next was Goldrinn. He also dealt himself a harsh blow and exited the board.

Finally, only the lone White Bishop, Elolo, remained...

"Sob..."

’I really want to run, but I’m so scared of the pain...’

Outside the screen, Lloyd watched this unfold, feeling incredibly awkward.

’Have they misunderstood me somehow?’

’Didn’t I say I meant no harm?’

As he was mulling it over, he saw the last White Bishop on the screen sway twice and then vanish.

In the end, her fear of death won out over her fear of pain.

"How did things turn out this way?"

Lloyd swiped open the light screen before him and looked down at the Tentacle Grass at his feet.

The Tentacle Grass twisted its body, forming a ’?’ shape to show that it didn’t know either.

Lloyd thought for a moment, trying to see things from their perspective and analyze the situation:

’Is it because I don’t have a physical form? Since I’m essentially just a disembodied voice, they don’t trust me?’

’That must be it. After all, if some invisible person suddenly started whispering in my ear, I wouldn’t feel safe either, let alone trust them...’

With that, he looked down at the Tentacle Grass again and asked:

"Is there any way to bring them back for the meeting?"

The Tentacle Grass wriggled, dragged the light screen back in front of Lloyd, and then, with another flurry of waves, a new button appeared beside the screen: ’Go Live’.

"It’s not like I’m trying to be a streamer... Ah, whatever. As long as it works."

Lloyd grumbled, then asked:

"Can you create a virtual avatar for me? Hmm... something with a Knight theme. After all, I suppose I’m the successor to the Black Knight."

The Tentacle Grass began to twist frantically once more. Lines appeared on the screen in front of Lloyd, combining and converging as if being drawn by an invisible pen.

A moment later, a Knight appeared on the screen, looking just as Lloyd had imagined. The art style was exquisite, the details were meticulous, and the image was strikingly lifelike.

Blond hair, green eyes, a saintly aura, a resolute expression, and a tall, slender build.

However, her armor was so tattered it barely covered the vital areas, and it was spattered with some unidentifiable, viscous white fluid. She looked as if she had just survived a massive battle and escaped from some terrifying den of Demons.

"This isn’t the kind of female Knight I was asking for!"

Lloyd exclaimed, his face flushing red.

The Tentacle Grass immediately swished a few times, erasing the female Knight. Then, with a flurry of strokes, it drew a new image.

This one wore a tight leather suit, had a head like a locust, and a structurally complex belt around its waist. It was posed on a railing, looking like it was about to start spouting profanities at any second.

’This masked hero getup will make them think I’m one of the Demon Ghosts...’

The Tentacle Grass hastily revised the design again.

This time, it finally produced something normal: the image of a traditional armored Knight.

He wore a horned helmet that concealed his face. His form-fitting, full-plate armor was a deep crimson, as if forged from lava, and was adorned with ornate patterns. A robe-like fauld was fastened around his waist, protecting his legs. A pair of magnificent, burning wings could even unfurl from his back.

The overall image was valiant and imposing, radiating a competent, deadly, and overwhelming presence.

"Awesome! This is the one!"

Lloyd nodded in satisfaction. He was about to press the ’Go Live’ button to pull back the people who had fled and resume the meeting.

But just as his finger reached out, he hesitated and pulled back.

’I scared them pretty badly just now, and they even knocked themselves out. I should probably give them a couple of days to recover. I’ll let them off the hook for today.’

As he spoke, Lloyd reached out and poked the Tentacle Grass, offering a word of praise:

"You did a good job today. Keep it up, and I’ll make you a product manager in the future."

The Tentacle Grass quickly wrapped around his finger and nuzzled it before letting go. It began to sway from side to side, looking exceptionally pleased.

Still, Lloyd took out the glass cover and placed it over the creature.

He had recently read some information about [Holy Artifacts] and had come to a general conclusion about the nature of this Tentacle Grass—

It was likely a type of [Holy Artifact] that operated on a conscious level and possessed a rudimentary intelligence.

According to the books, a significant number of the various [Holy Artifacts] currently possessed by humanity were made from the processed corpses and organs of Demons.

This phenomenon, where it seemed to ’rise from the ashes’ and possess its own life, was actually a sign of the [Holy Artifact]’s exceptional quality.

[Holy Artifacts] with a degree of sentience weren’t rare. In fact, one at the Tentacle Grass’s level was considered rather dim-witted. Some of the smarter ones could even argue with their wielders or tell them jokes.

But what made the Tentacle Grass special was that it had formed from the corpse of a Thought Demon. This meant it had no physical body in the real world and could only exist within his [Thought Realm].

The books Lloyd had access to were all quite basic. They didn’t mention such a special case, and the term ’Thought Demon’ didn’t appear in them at all.

That was why he was always cautious when dealing with the Tentacle Grass. He would always activate ’Wind Spirit Moon Shadow’ before interacting with it, and he would always place the glass cover over it afterward.

Lloyd emerged from the [Thought Realm]. It was already late, so he collapsed into bed and went straight to sleep.

But in the far-distant Eternal City, someone could not sleep...

"Urk... Ah! COUGH, COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."

Jenkins’s eyes snapped open. The whites were so shot with blood they looked as if they might start weeping tears of blood.

"Hah... I’m... still alive?"

He stared at the familiar ceiling above, murmuring in disbelief. Then, enduring the stabbing pain in his head, he forced himself to sit up in bed.

Just then, there was a knock on his door.

"Professor? I thought I heard you coughing..."

It was his star pupil, expressing concern.

"Prepare the carriage. I must pay a visit to the Bishop."

Jenkins ordered, his voice hoarse and weak.
