Limitless Evolution As a Snake
Chapter 202: Interrogation UNO Reverse CardHer whole body goes still for a second, just breathing, just the two of us tangled up in the low light with my tail coiled tight enough to feel her pulse through it. Then she reaches up. Both hands, cupping my jaw, my actual jaw, scales and all, no hesitation in it at all. She presses her forehead against my snout, green eyes wide open, staring straight into the glow like she’s not scared of what’s looking back.
"I wasn’t scared of you," she says, voice cracking. "I was scared because I watched you turn into this, and I didn’t feel disgust. I felt... like my whole world flipped, because I love you, Matt, all of it."
The room goes quiet except for her heartbeat, thundering against my coils. A low rumble builds in my chest, something I don’t decide to make, and it rolls out of me and into her. She gasps at the feel of it, eyes fluttering.
"I love you too; of course you’re my world, forever and always. Thank you for accepting all of me."
I nipple down on her breast, hard, no patience left in it at all, tipping her back into the pillows while my smoke hands finally move, tracing down her sides, over her hips, mapping every inch of her like I’ve been waiting my whole miserable half-snake life for permission.
She kisses back just as hard down the sides of my body, fingers digging into the scales of my upper body, legs wrapping around me on instinct, and for once neither of us is asking questions anymore. Just her name, breathed against my mouth. Just mine, gasped back.
My smoke hands are halfway down her stomach when she grabs my wrist, and I mean actually grabs it, fingers wrapping around solid smoke like she’s got any business being able to do that.
She stops me dead.
I blink down at her, brain very confused somewhere between why has the pretty lady stoppedme? and wait, she can do that?
Lyra pushes herself up on her elbows, hair a wild silver mess against the pillow, eyes so dark I could fall in and never climb back out. Her chest is heaving.
"My turn," she says. "One question for you, monster. And you don’t get to kiss me again until you answer."
I open my mouth, probably to say something dumb, but she presses a finger against my snout before I can ruin it.
"I mean it. No jokes and no deflecting." Her eyes search mine, hard and soft at the same time. "What are you actually planning here, Matt? With me. With whatever this is we’re building. I want to hear you say it. What am I to you now that you’re this... apex whatever you are."
The room goes still around us, just moonlight pooling across the marble and her heartbeat still hammering under where my palm used to be.
So it’s just me and her and the truth, and for once I don’t feel like running from it. I look at her properly, really look, the tattoo curling up her forearm, the way she’s stopped bothering to hide how much she wants me to answer right.
"You’re my ground," I say, my voice rough. "You and Cherry, both of you, you’re the hoard. The thing I’d burn this whole city down to keep, the whole world. There’s no future where you’re not right here next to me."
Her breath hitches. Good, keep going, idiot, you’re on a roll.
"I’m not smart enough for a master plan. I just know I want you both there when I wake up. That’s it, that’s everything."
The last of that sharp, tactical wall she keeps around herself doesn’t just crack. It shatters. She doesn’t say anything back, and she doesn’t need to. Her hand shoots up, fingers curling into the scales behind my head, and she yanks me down into a kiss so fierce it knocks the breath clean out of me, teeth and tongue and desperate hunger, like she’s been holding this back for way longer than tonight.
I groan into her mouth, and my smoke hands finally get their orders straight, sliding without permission now, peeling away the last scraps of fabric still clinging to her like they’ve personally offended me. She shivers as the smoke curls around her thighs, cool and deliberate against her heated skin, lifting her like she weighs nothing at all.
Moonlight catches every inch of her as I settle her over my coils, her legs bracketing me, her hands braced against my chest where the rumble is still going, still rolling out of me low and constant like a struck bell that won’t stop ringing.
"Matt," she breathes, and it’s not a question this time.
"Yeah," I rumble, voice wrecked already. "I’m right here."
Hypnotic light spilling faint crimson across the white marble floor, and for once I don’t try to rein it in. Let her see all of it. Every part of the monster that’s apparently hers now.
She doesn’t flinch. She just pulls me closer, hips rolling against me like she’s done waiting, and every rational thought I own packs its bags and leaves the building, and, to be honest, do I ever have a rational thought? No, probably not.
I get my first real look at her like this, moonlight and crimson scale-light pouring over skin the colour of polished dark wood, and my brain just stops working for a second.
She’s gorgeous, not in the way people say that word when they don’t mean it in the way that makes my chest hurt a little, looking at her.
I press my head against her breast. She’s soft and warm and perfect, and when I squeeze gently, N she arches into it with a gasp that goes straight through me.
"You’re staring," she says, breathless, a smile tugging at her mouth even through the way she’s shaking.
"Yeah," I say. "Gonna keep doing that too."
