Limitless: New Dawn

Chapter 309: New Ability

Arthur appeared high above the capital city of Stonevale and immediately realized why the Church had recalled nearly all of its powerhouses. The battle taking place here could be said to be extremely chaotic.

The sky itself seemed to be torn beneath the pressure of dozens of Sage Rank experts fighting simultaneously. Deafening explosions echoed continuously across the sky as sword auras, holy magic, demonic magic, elemental storms, and countless other attacks collided with one another.

Every exchange sent shockwaves rippling across the battlefield, flattening forests and carving trenches through the earth below. Arthur's gaze swept across the combatants as he quickly counted their numbers. Twenty five Sage Rank experts fought on the demon side while only twenty two Sage Rank experts fought for humanity.

The demons clearly possessed the advantage and below them stretched an even larger battlefield. More than one hundred thousand demons surged toward the capital like a black and crimson tide while nearly an equal number of human soldiers fought desperately to hold them back.

Countless spells illuminated the battlefield. War beasts larger than some buildings charged through defensive formations. Priests channeled healing magic without pause while demonic shamans spread corruption through entire sections of the battlefield.

The scene was utter chaos, and Arthur silently observed everything while remaining concealed. Judging by the behavior of the demonic commanders, news regarding the destruction of their other invasion forces had not yet reached them.

Their attacks remained aggressive and confident, they still believed the coordinated invasion of the kingdom was proceeding exactly according to their plan. Even so, Arthur wasn't particularly worried.

Every border city had now been secured and the Sage Rank defenders stationed there were no longer tied down. Sooner or later they would arrive at the capital, he folded his arms and continued observing.

He didn't have to wait long, roughly ten minutes later several powerful auras entered his senses. They were approaching rapidly from different directions and moving at speeds that only Sage Rank experts could achieve. He smiled slightly. "Right on time."

The combatants in the sky noticed them as well after a few seconds. One after another, both human and demonic Sages began slowing their attacks. A few seconds later nine figures appeared above the battlefield, nine Sage Rank humans.

Looking at the newcomers, Arthur quietly muttered, "Looks like not all of them came to join." The decision was understandable. Even though the cities had been saved, somebody still needed to remain behind in case another attack occurred. No sane commander would abandon every border city at once.

The newly arrived Sages quickly joined the human formation. One of the kingdom's defenders immediately frowned and shouted toward them, "What are you doing here? Why did you leave your cities?" His voice carried both confusion and irritation.

A newly arrived Sage laughed bitterly. "Trust me, you wouldn't believe what happened even if I told you."

"Then try me."

The man sighed and said, "I'll explain it in detail after the battle. For now, just know that every border city is secure and every threat has been eliminated."

Silence immediately followed, the surrounding Sages stared at him as though he had gone mad. Even the Church's representatives widened their eyes. The Sage who had asked the question frowned deeply. "What do you mean eliminated?"

Another newcomer answered this time. "Gone, the whole demon army, every commander they are gone." The defenders looked at one another in disbelief.

Several Sages from the Church instinctively thought of the same possibility, dragons. Throughout recorded history there had only been a handful of existences capable of wiping out multiple Sage Rank armies so effortlessly and the Dragon Race was one of them.

One Church Sage whispered, "Could it be..." Another slowly nodded. "Maybe the Dragons finally intervened?" No one knew the truth, but the idea spread through the human ranks almost immediately.

However, there was no time to discuss it further. The battle was still ongoing, whatever mystery had saved the border cities could be investigated later. For now, the capital still stood on the edge of destruction.

The arrival of nine fresh Sage Rank experts instantly shifted the balance of power. What had once been a twenty five versus twenty two engagement became twenty five versus thirty one. For the first time since the battle began, the humans held the advantage.

The morale of the human side soared. One of the newly arrived Sages laughed loudly before charging toward the nearest demon commander. "Come then! Let's see if you demons can still boast about your superior number after today!"

The other human Sages followed immediately and the sky erupted into chaos once more. This time, however, the demons found themselves being pushed back. The sudden reversal caught them completely off guard. They had expected reinforcement reports from their own armies, not fresh human powerhouses appearing from supposedly besieged cities.

Arthur watched quietly as the tide of battle shifted. Several demon commanders suffered injuries within the first few minutes. One lost an arm, another was blasted through multiple clouds by a combined attack.

Confusion spread through the demonic ranks, they couldn't understand where the additional human Sages had come from. Their confidence rapidly deteriorated, soon retreat signals began spreading throughout the demon forces.

The commanders realized continuing the battle would only result in unnecessary casualties. One by one, they disengaged and began withdrawing. The human forces erupted into cheers, soldiers who had been preparing for death only minutes earlier suddenly found themselves witnessing victory.

Arthur remained where he was and watched the retreating demons disappear into the distance. Soon enough they would learn that every one of their other invasion forces had already been annihilated.

The news would shift the balance of the war. But that was no longer his concern, he had already done what he could. Without drawing attention to himself, he turned and disappeared from the battlefield.

About an hour later, Arthur sat inside his laboratory in Avalon. The distant sounds of war had been replaced by complete silence. Floating before him was a synthetic human body suspended above a metallic platform. The body possessed realistic skin, muscles, organs, and skeletal structure.

At first glance it appeared completely alive except for the fact that its eyes remained closed and there was a large gash running across its chest. The wound exposed muscle tissue, artificial organs, and damaged biological structures beneath.

Arthur stared at it thoughtfully, what he was attempting now was far more difficult than simply repairing inanimate objects or machinery. He was trying to heal living tissue through Matter Manipulation alone.

Over the months he had developed increasingly precise control over matter. He could restructure metals, reshape molecules, alter materials, and even disintegrate targets entirely. Yet biological systems remained vastly more complex than ordinary matter.

Living organisms were not simply collections of atoms. They were incredibly complicated arrangements of organic molecules, proteins, cells, genetic information, chemical reactions, and self sustaining biological processes.

Still, he believed that with sufficient understanding and control, Matter Manipulation could eventually evolve into something far greater that is Biokinesis, it could allow him to have direct control over living systems themselves.

If successful, the possibilities were nearly limitless. He could manipulate genetic code directly, alter cellular structures, and reshape biology at will. Limbs could be regenerated within seconds, fatal wounds could be healed instantly, diseases could be erased by selectively destroying infected cells, genetic traits could be modified on the fly.

A person's body could be strengthened, altered, or adapted to new environments. One could theoretically develop gills for underwater survival, wings for flight, enhanced organs for combat, or entirely new biological systems.

While he personally had little need for many of those abilities due to his existing powers, he had learned long ago that useful abilities often revealed their true value in unexpected situations. Therefore, mastering Biokinesis had become one of his current priorities.

Slowly he focused all his senses upon the synthetic body and activated Matter Manipulation. Countless microscopic structures became visible within his perception. Cells, proteins, organic compounds, damaged tissue, and severed neural pathways.

He carefully began guiding the surrounding matter but the process was painstakingly slow. Compared to rebuilding a machine, manipulating living tissue felt like attempting surgery with a hammer. Yet he persisted and minutes stretched into nearly an hour.

Sweat gradually formed across his forehead despite his immense control. Then finally after an hour of trying he saw movement, the damaged tissue around the wound began knitting together. Tiny cellular structures slowly reorganized themselves, muscle fibers reconnected as organic material regenerated.

The large gash across the chest gradually shrank. Arthur's eyes lit up. "It worked." The wound wasn't healing quickly by his standards, it was painfully slow. Yet speed wasn't the important part, the success was.

He had proven that the concept itself was possible, the journey from Matter Manipulation to Biokinesis had officially begun. He smiled slightly while examining the healing wound. The road ahead remained long, but now he knew he was moving in the right direction. Without wasting any time, he immediately resumed practicing.

The following days passed peacefully throughout Avalon while chaos unfolded across the human continent. News of miraculous salvation spread through every kingdom, city, village, and church.

Stories varied depending on who told them, some claimed divine fire had descended from heaven. Others spoke of celestial warriors appearing in the skies and several insisted the Dragon Race had finally intervened.

Predictably, the Church wasted no time capitalizing on the situation. Official announcements spread rapidly across the continent. Church representatives declared that the gods had personally intervened after witnessing the suffering of humanity.

According to them, divine judgment had descended upon the demonic armies and wiped out the invaders threatening Arkanis. The story spread like wildfire, churches overflowed with worshippers, prayer gatherings filled city squares.

Donations poured into Church coffers, faith across the continent reached heights not seen in centuries. Priests praised the benevolence of the gods while citizens celebrated what they believed to be a divine miracle.

Ironically, the individual responsible for the entire phenomenon paid almost no attention to the growing religious fervor. Arthur spent most of his time inside Avalon, during the mornings he accompanied Selene and his friends, sharing meals, talking, training, and simply enjoying their company.

During the afternoons and evenings he returned to his laboratory and continued refining his newly developing ability. Every day brought slight improvements, the damaged tissue healed faster and cellular reconstruction became more precise.

His control over biological matter gradually increased. Although true Biokinesis remained far away, the foundation was steadily taking shape and more than a week passed like this. For perhaps the first time in a long while, he found himself genuinely enjoying the slower pace of life.

Yet every time he relaxed, the same thought eventually returned. The cultivation world, the Grand Tournament, rogue worlds and mainly the mysterious agent of Ahriman. Threats and opportunities alike waited beyond Thyrandel.

No matter how much he enjoyed spending time with Selene and the others, he couldn't afford to remain idle forever. One evening he stood upon a balcony overlooking Avalon while the setting sun painted the sky in shades of gold and crimson. His gaze lingered on the city he had built, the protective formation continued operating perfectly.

The killing formation remained ready for activation. His friends were stronger than ever and Avalon itself was safer than it had ever been. He released a slow breath, his progress with Biokinesis had reached a satisfactory level for now.

Further advancement would likely require practical experience and more research. The time had come to move forward once again. He would have liked to stay longer, part of him genuinely wanted to remain here for another few weeks and spend time with Selene. But the unknown dangers lurking beyond the horizon weren't going to wait.

Strength was still his greatest priority. Turning away from the city lights, he made his decision. Tomorrow, he would return to the Immortal Realm and continue walking the path toward becoming powerful enough that no threat could ever endanger the people he cared about again.
