Tyler woke up and was surprised that Kass was gone.
’What the hell?’
He was worried this morning would be different, but it wasn’t. It was exactly the same as it always was. The only difference was Sophie and her friends, including Amanda and Kass, ate breakfast with Adam and Tyler to start off their Monday.
"Sorry for sneaking out on you, I should have brought clothes for school. Forgot my uniform, sorry Tyler." Kass apologized.
"No worries. I was wondering where the hell you went. I almost forgot to put my uniform on." He laughed.
"So we’re going to the forest Friday right?" Adam asked.
Tyler noticed Amanda’s face went a little pale. "Don’t worry Amanda, you can still stay over Friday."
"Yeah, let’s do it." Sophie said confidently. "You in, ladies?"
"Hell yeah!" Kass said. "I’m always down for some rule breaking. Plus we have Vivian now so it should be easy."
"Class has been so boring!" Amanda complained. "Seriously, the practicals are the only good classes."
"I agree and with everything Shadow’s told me about the beast taming class, it makes me sick." Tyler frowned.
"Seriously they’re all just locked up for show!"
"You can’t think of it like that bro. For some of them, it’s a better life. I know the snakes love it." Adam said while patting him on the back.
"Just because Shadow got pulled from her pack means they all hate being here."
"He’s right Tyler. Anyway, I really like professor Sanju’s class. He said we should start training for this tournament!" Sophie smirked. "Have any of you done your placement duels yet?"
"Nope." They all said simultaneously.
"I can’t wait for the tournament! I heard it’s so much fun. I hope I get up to rank C by then," Amanda smiled. "I think with all of your help, I can definitely do it!"
"There she is!" Tyler smiled. "Confidence looks good on you, I think you can too. Your support magic has definitely improved, even my familiars think so."
"My snakes love it." Adam bragged. "Orochi loves how fast and big he gets when you buff him."
The group continued to enjoy their breakfast unaware that their homeroom teacher was eavesdropping the entire time.
"Looks like someone’s becoming Mr. Popular." He muttered to himself.
"He is." Sensei Sanju said while walking up to him.
"You are his homeroom teacher are you not?"
"Indeed I am. You gave him your brother’s staff, that was very thoughtful."
"Well, I figured it should go to someone who was worthy of carrying it. Have you not noticed how much he’s grown so quickly?"
"Yes, I have. I wonder, how?" The Professor did his best to lie. He read enough about the realm of Eidolons to know how quickly a human could power up there. That’s why he wanted to go so badly.
"He trains hard and has good friends." Sanju shrugged.
"There has to be more to it than that." Ethan prodded.
"Who knows. Summoners have always been a different bunch! I’ll see you around." The sensei said before walking away.
Professor VanHorn smirked. ’If only I could get there I’d be the most powerful person in this world!’

After their classes were over for the day, they went to one of the kiosks in the school to check out the dueling rankings and school database. Tyler recognized the names "Tim" and "Blake," who were in the top 20. Those were the third years that jumped him.
"Well, I’m going to go for it." Sophie said a confident smile.
After entering her information in the computer, she got a time and date for her first duel.
"Woah, that’s in 20 minutes and your ref is Sensei Sanju! That’s pretty lucky." Tyler smiled.
"Why is my opponent ranked D?" Sophie frowned.
Amanda immediately frowned but Tyler wrapped his arm around her. "Never underestimate your opponent Sophie. I’m only C but I could always have Vivian come out and charm you."
"Shit. I’m sorry Amanda." Sophie walked over and hugged her. "I didn’t mean anything by it."
"No, it’s ok. I get it. You expected someone that was your rank. I’m ok, don’t worry. You can all stop treating me like I’m five now." Amanda laughed while rolling her eyes.
They quickly made their way to Sophie’s apartment to grab her katanas then ended up in the dojo. Sophie ran and got changed.
’Damn she looks good in her Karate gi. I’m glad Professor Sanju finally gave her that black belt.’
Tyler, Adam, Amanda and Kass all noticed a nervous looking D rank student walk into the Dojo. Sophie grinned.
"Hello Mr. Davidson." Professor Sanju said with a formal bow.
"Hey Sensei! I saw I drew someone ranked B for my third placement match. What does that mean?"
"It means you have done very well in your first two." He smiled.
"Seriously Sophie, don’t take this guy lightly." Tyler whispered and snuck a kiss on the cheek.
"I will not lose." Sophie smiled and kissed Tyler. He wondered what the other girls thought, but went with the flow. He wasn’t going to brush off someone he cared about and was being sexual with right before her first duel.
He walked back expecting Adam or someone to say something about the kiss, but they just carried on talking about the match like it never happened.
"Ash, Viv, why are they being so easy going about it and not saying anything? Am I the only one thinking about it?"
"You probably are. Stop worrying and enjoy your life, kid." Ash chirped.
"I hate to break it to you Tyler, but the world doesn’t revolve around you." Vivian chuckled.
"I didn’t mean it like that. I just think it’s strange that everyone just carries on like it’s no big deal. Back on Earth..."
"Ok that’s where I’ll cut you off. This isn’t Earth and this isn’t 2026." Ash said politely but bluntly.
"You are the last summoner in the year 3333 and you have a harem and a party. Your responsibility is to take care of us and take care of them. Stop living your past life and start living your future one. Go register for a duel."
"After Sophie’s I will." Tyler smiled.
"How are your familiars doing?" Adam asked.
"They’re good. They want me to sign up for a duel after Sophie’s so I hope she wins quickly."
"Alright everyone. This is an official school duel. No attempts shall be made to kill one another. Both of you must fight until one surrenders or is unable to continue. I will step in if things are too one sided. Any questions?"
Sophie shook her head no.
The young man smirked and shook his head no.
"BEGIN."
The male quickly took a bow from his back and started firing off arrows without having to reload his bow.
"Woah! That’s a nifty trick," Kass smirked.
Sophie simply used her katanas to cut them down cleanly while using fire to distract him. She side stepped and evaded the remaining arrows. Frustrated, the young man gave up and switched to magic. He started throwing ice shards at Sophie as quickly as he could.
"He’s pretty good." Adam said calmly. "Definitely strong for a D rank."
Tyler noticed Vivian was yawning inside his chest.
"Do you want out? You seem bored."
"Sophie is toying with her prey to impress you. Look at her finesse. She’s striking down ice shards and arrows with swords. That takes incredible talent."
The more Tyler watched, he realized how impressive she was. She effortlessly weaved in and out of attacking and defensive formations. He wondered if there was some trick to the scoring system he was missing because everything she did seemed methodical. Eventually, the young man shot arrows at her again, but she used several ice walls to cause him to lose track of which Sophie was real. They were flawless sheets of ice and reflective, like a mirror.
"Nice job Sophie!" Tyler screamed.
"Way to go girl!" Amanda cheered.
Kass and Adam smiled and watched Sophie appear right behind the young man, blade at his neck.
"Great effort buddy. I win." Sophie smiled.
"Damn. You’re so good!" The student admitted defeat.
"Match, Ms. Grace!" Sensei Sanju shouted. He pulled out his tablet and started entering a bunch of information.
"Yo man, that was an awesome fight." Tyler said politely while extending his arm for a handshake.
"Thanks but I lost." The young man shrugged while shaking his hand.
"I’m Tyler, that’s Adam, Amanda, Kass and you fought Sophie. I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself, she’s our B ranked badass." Tyler smirked.
"Paul, it’s nice to meet you. Why are you being so nice?" He asked, confused.
"Because that’s who Tyler is," Sophie said while giving him another kiss.
"Your girlfriend? Lucky..." Paul laughed.
"Follow my lead girl," Kass smiled while grabbing Amanda’s hand. She walked up, kissed Tyler, then Amanda did the same.
"Girlfriends." Sophie corrected him.
"Dude what the hell!" Paul laughed. "Anyway, what is our result, Sensei?"
"You will see when you register for your next battle. Can I interest anyone else in signing up? I’m free for another session in about 30 minutes."
"I am!" Tyler said with a confident smile.
"Can I watch?" Paul asked enthusiastically.
"That’s up to them." Professor Sanju smiled.
"You have your opponent. He will be here in 30 minutes."
