Tyler snuck back into bed but spooned Kass because the girls were sprawled everywhere. He smiled because Sophie and Amanda were still cuddling but had turned away from him after he woke up and Sophie was now snuggling Amanda from behind.
He had trouble falling back asleep from sheer excitement. He had his final placement, would get his report card tomorrow and they were sneaking out to the forest on Friday. Tyler also knew once his placements were done, depending on where he ranked, he would be dueling more frequently. The competitor inside of him wanted to make sure he dominated, much like he did in his previous life on the football field. Anything other than a win didn’t feel right.
They all woke up, got ready for school and Tyler let them know about his match. They enjoyed a nice, easy day and during their dueling class, Tyler made it a point to seek out his professor for some tips about his final match.
"Hey Sensei! Do you have a few minutes?" He asked after the lesson the teacher presented about hand to hand combat, including the introduction of Qi energy. His display of martial arts with the qi infusion was impressive.
"Of course, what’s on your mind Mr. Rask?"
"I have my final placement match and was wondering if you could give me some tips, pointers, feedback from my previous duels or something like that?"
"I cannot give you feedback other than the documentation I provided, but I can absolutely give you tips. What level is your staff?"
’Wait, system, how does he know about that?’
[Your staff is at level 3. The orb grows and the staff belonged to his family so based on that information, it is likely something that is known in his family and unique to the staff and not this system.]
"Level 3. How much do you know about it?"
"Well, I was 15 when my brother passed away so we had a decent age gap. At first when he told me his staff talked to him, I thought he was going crazy, but after talking to my grandparents, the staff’s gemstone grows the more powerful it becomes. According to my family, the maximum level is 10 and that was when my ancestor was able to Summon Bahamut and Asura. It levels up as you gain more power, form more contracts and through practical use, I believe. I may be mistaken on some aspects. Perhaps ask the King and Queen." He answered quietly so no one else could hear.
"Thank you Master Sanju. My opponent is Alex Quay. Do you know him?"
"Alex? I do not. I am one of three dueling professors. Although it is not a requirement for first year students, it is in years two and three to develop your skills for the future. He is not one of my students and I have not officiated one of his matches. What did you learn from your last duel?"
"To not exhaust myself, to allow the referee or someone else to heal my opponent and not to damage my opponent that much at risk of a penalty. Am I allowed to bring a mana potion?"
"Yes, each student is allowed one. No health potions are allowed though."
"During the lesson today you were talking about Qi energy. How can I better practice that?"
"Meditate and have your familiars help you. My brother mastered Qi before he passed away, which is something very rare in this world. All three of the dueling professors have it mastered, but not every professor at this school has. It’s a difficult thing to master and takes time, patience and practice. I would not advise worrying about today."
"Ok. I think today my strategy will be to fight as best I can and if I’m in a pinch or can’t find an opening, I’ll use my ace up my sleeve and have Vivian, my succubus, charm him for a few seconds so I can get my staff in a position to make him surrender."
"Good strategy. How many familiars do you carry now? Please be careful..."
"Four and I will be Professor. Please don’t worry about that. Bahamut gifted me Ritsu, his daughter, when we visited last. I couldn’t kill one of my familiars so I offered my life instead."
"Ah, the trial of Bahamut. My brother was creative. He had too many familiars and the King and Queen knew it, but for his trial he killed a familiar clone and passed. He wasn’t awarded a gift though, so you must have really impressed him."
Tyler smirked. "Thanks Professor. I’m going to go practice!"
Tyler spent the rest of the class training with Adam, who used a sword to attack Tyler so he could defend with magic and his staff. After the rest of his classes wrapped up, he drank a mana potion and eagerly walked to a different dojo that he didn’t even know the school had with Adam, CeCe and his harem.
When they arrived, they were surprised to see a crowd of hundreds of students in the dojo and someone used magic to create makeshift stadium seating for everyone.
"This is unreal!" Tyler exclaimed while walking in.
"I’m surprised people went all out for this. Who is your opponent?" Adam asked.
"Alex Quay. Do any of you know him?"
"That’s a second year... he’s in the top 500." Sophie said calmly. She grabbed Tyler’s hand and pulled him toward her.
"Listen to me. He is strong, fast and will attack you without slowing down. He’s a werewolf and he will likely fully transform. He’s really good and regenerates fast so don’t hold back. Use Vivian if you have to." She said quietly while staring him directly in the eyes.
"Woah. Ok. I brought a mana potion as well. Should I send Shadow and Ritsu to the Eidolon realm?" He whispered.
"It depends on how much it feels like they are draining you. He won’t fall for the clone trick. It’s public knowledge now and as good of a clone as it is, until you two are more in sync... even then she will always be a tad bit slower than you." Sophie spoke quietly while the rest of the group surrounded them while other students were still walking in.
"Tyler, torch his ass." Kass smirked. "If you win I’ll sign up for placements."
Tyler smirked. "Alright, I can’t lose then!"
"Mr. Rask, your match begins in five minutes please enter the circle," the Professor who was refereeing the match said.
Tyler didn’t know this professor nor did any of the girls.
’Well, this should be interesting.’ Tyler thought while stepping forward.
