Chapter 191: Late Night Private Lessons with Elizabeth

Vera knelt beside the princess and followed her gaze. "They are training, Your Highness. He is physically correcting her stance and aligning her posture for a sword sequence."

Lune continued to glare at the pair. "I gave her a free pass to talk to him today, but now she is completely overstepping her limits."

Suddenly, Vera stiffened. Her spatial detection talent flared to life, sending a jarring warning directly into her mind.

She immediately raised her hand and signaled her hidden squad. Six dark figures dropped from the rafters and formed a tight protective circle around the princess.

"What is going on, Vera?" Lune asked, noticing the sudden shift in protocol.

"Someone just breached the palace borders," Vera reported, keeping her eyes scanning the dark horizon.

Lune furrowed her brow. "What are you talking about? The perimeter is heavily fortified, and the royal sentries are guarding every single entrance."

Vera ignored the argument entirely. She turned to her subordinates. "Take Her Highness back to her quarters immediately. Secure the room from all sides and lock down the windows."

"I cannot leave!" Lune protested, struggling against the guards trying to usher her away. "Solomon and Elizabeth are down there! I have to inform them about the breach!"

Vera stepped forward and swiftly tapped a specific nerve cluster on the back of Lune’s neck. The princess slumped forward, falling instantly into a deep, forced sleep. Vera handed the unconscious royal to her team. The shadows whisked Lune away toward the premium guest wing.

Vera remained standing on the tower. She looked down at the two teenagers in the dirt ring. She debated dropping down to alert them about the incoming threat.

’The existence of the shadow pavilion is a closely guarded secret,’ Vera reminded herself, watching them swing the wooden sword. ’Nobody can ever know about this shadow faction. Maintaining my secrecy is vastly more important than warning two academy students. My only duty is to keep the princess safe, even if she decides to kill me for this insubordination later.’

Down in the training ring, Solomon continued giving Elizabeth her private lesson.

Because she kept messing up the final fraction of the fifth step, Solomon resorted to a much more direct teaching method. He stepped right behind her, aligning their bodies perfectly. He grabbed her wrists and guided her hands through the sweeping cut, physically locking her posture into the correct stance.

Elizabeth gritted her teeth in frustration. Her mind raced, making it entirely impossible to think straight while her back rested against his chest. She stumbled over her boots and ruined the footwork once again.

Solomon patiently corrected her positioning. He guided her arms through the motion again and again until her muscles finally memorized the exact trajectory. She performed the sweeping cut flawlessly on her tenth attempt.

"That was perfect," Solomon praised, stepping back to give her some space. "You finally mastered the transition."

Elizabeth turned around to face him. A brilliant spark of joy lit up her red eyes. The direct validation sent a warm flutter through her chest. She felt a profound sense of accomplishment and immediately craved more of his praise.

’I actually did it,’ she thought, a bright smile conquering her usual stern expression. ’He believes I am doing well.’

"You should teach me the sixth step right now!" Elizabeth demanded excitedly, gripping her wooden rapier. "I want to start practicing it right away!"

Solomon stepped forward and delivered a light smack to her forehead. "The only step you need to take right now is the one leading back to your bed. You are completely done for the night."

Elizabeth laughed and rubbed her forehead. She dropped her practice sword onto the grass. Taking a quick step forward, she closed the distance between them. She locked her hands behind her back and leaned incredibly close to his face, looking directly up into his silver eyes.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" Elizabeth asked out of the blue.

The question caught Solomon entirely off guard. His casual smile slowly faded away. He blinked a few times, completely unprepared for such a personal inquiry. He forced a polite smile back onto his lips and shifted his weight nervously.

"I had a girlfriend," Solomon responded awkwardly.

The hovering bronze owl zoomed in on his face, broadcasting the uncomfortable confession to the audience.

[1Fizzy: LORE DROP!]

[James_hayes: WAIT HE HAD A GIRLFRIEND?!]

[Fatal_Beauty: omg what happened to her?]

[Mezz_3863: Solo Man spilled the tea.]

[Tad_Farmer: Elizabeth asking the real questions.]

[Alpha_char: bro looks so sad right now.]

Elizabeth tilted her head, her expression softening into genuine curiosity. "What exactly happened? Did you two break up, or did it just not work out? It is perfectly fine if you do not want to answer that while we are live."

Solomon reached up and scratched the back of his neck. He looked away from her piercing red eyes and stared at the dark training grounds.

"It is not really like that," Solomon muttered, struggling to find the right words. A clearly painful smile touched his lips. "She left me."

Elizabeth widened her red eyes, entirely shocked by the blunt confession. ’Why would anyone leave him?’ she wondered, staring at his forced, painful smile.

She desperately wanted to ask for the details, yet she noticed the heavy sorrow clouding his features. Guilt immediately washed over her for prying into a wound he clearly wished to keep buried. She clamped her mouth shut, deciding to let the subject drop.

Before the awkward silence could stretch any further, a sharp whistle pierced the night air.

Solomon acted on pure instinct. He grabbed Elizabeth by the shoulder and violently yanked her to the side just as a black-fletched arrow buried itself deep into the dirt exactly where she had been standing.

He reached over his shoulder, grasping at empty air. He had left Eden’s Penance back in his guest chamber, assuming this was merely a harmless late-night practice session. ’Not a major issue,’ Solomon thought to himself, scanning the dimly lit courtyards. ’There are hundreds of weapons sitting on these racks.’

He stepped in front of Elizabeth, shielding her with his body while his silver eyes searched the dark rooftops. The palace grounds remained terrifyingly quiet, entirely devoid of any visible attackers.
