The moment they crossed blades, Solomon immediately realized how restrictive the rules actually were.
Tianyi lunged forward with a rapid series of precise thrusts. Solomon instinctively bent his knees, preparing to drop his center of gravity and launch a devastating horizontal sweep.
’Wait, no,’ Solomon reminded himself, hastily aborting the movement. ’I am not holding an Eden’s Penance. I have to hold back my strength.’
He caught Tianyi’s incoming blade with a clumsy upward block, nearly stepping backward out of the designated ring.
[NewbHunter: bro looks so confused right now.]
[Brerell: he tried to swing it like a greatsword AHAHAHA!]
[LazyCat: Solo Man struggling with the finesse build.]
[GamerGuy: the rapier is way too light for him.]
Tianyi pressed the advantage, recognizing the boy’s discomfort with the weapon. The groom unleashed a flurry of elegant strikes, aiming for Solomon’s shoulders and ribs.
Solomon gritted his teeth and parried the first thrust. He successfully caught the second strike, sliding his blade along the groom’s weapon. However, just as he positioned his wrist for the third consecutive parry to secure the win, Tianyi fluidly broke the weapon lock.
The noble twisted his torso and struck back, forcing Solomon to abandon the parry and block defensively instead.
"This three-parry rule is completely absurd," Solomon muttered, parrying another thrust but failing to connect the follow-up. "In a real fight, I would have already disarmed you."
"A true swordsman adapts to any battlefield," Tianyi replied smoothly, lunging forward again.
Solomon tried to side-step, but his boot brushed against the chalk line. He had to rely purely on his wrist movements, standing almost entirely still while batting away the incoming steel. He felt like a caged animal.
Every instinct in his body screamed at him to utilize his acrobatic footwork, to leap into the air and bring the blade crashing down.
Instead, he was forced to play an elegant game of tag.
[Zoomtech: the ring is too small for his movement speed.]
[Foodball: bro is fighting his own muscle memory.]
[Tyler_Klare: watching him hold back is hilarious.]
[M00N: he looks so frustrated lol.]
Tianyi executed a feint, dipping his shoulder before thrusting his rapier toward Solomon’s chest. Solomon reacted purely on his mercenary reflexes. He swatted the incoming blade away with entirely too much physical force.
The loud, metallic crack echoed across the silent ballroom. The sheer kinetic impact of Solomon’s block sent a violent vibration straight up Tianyi’s arm. The groom winced, his fingers going numb as the ceremonial rapier instantly slipped from his grasp.
The weapon sailed through the air and clattered noisily onto the polished marble floor.
The entire ballroom plunged into a dead, stunned silence. The nobles stared at the stage, their mouths hanging slightly open. The royal tradition dictated an elegant display of skill, not a brutal disarming block that sent a weapon flying into the crowd.
Solomon lowered his rapier and looked at the fallen blade. He then looked up at the hovering bronze owl and offered a completely unapologetic grin.
"Elizabeth told me disarming the opponent counts as an instant win," Solomon announced, breaking the silence. "I win."
Solomon lowered his rapier, fully expecting a round of applause or cheerful validation from his friends. He looked toward the VIP tables, assuming the chat, Lune, Elizabeth, Marco, and others would be celebrating his decisive victory.
Instead, they all stared at him as though he had just committed a grave, unspeakable crime against the royal family.
Lord Jian rubbed his temples. Matriarch Lihua let out a deep sigh. Even Princess Syra looked slightly horrified. Lord Tianyi, the groom, stood frozen on the stage, rubbing his numb wrist while staring at his fallen weapon in complete humiliation.
[1Fizzy: BRO WHAT DID YOU DO?!]
[James_hayes: Solo Man you ruined the wedding!]
[Fatal_Beauty: you were supposed to let him win!]
[Mezz_3863: bro has zero social awareness.]
[Tyler_Klare: this was a ceremonial dance, not a real duel!]
[M00N: you literally humiliated the groom on his big day.]
"It is a gentlemanly act to let the groom showcase his skills and secure the victory," Elizabeth hissed from the sidelines, hiding her face behind her mask. "The entire point of the tradition is to elevate his status before the court!"
Solomon frowned, genuinely failing to understand the unwritten rules of noble society. "If the ceremony exists to elevate his status, he should have to earn it. Giving him a fake victory proves absolutely nothing about his martial worth."
[Brerell: bro refuses to understand the politics.]
[Foodball: he just cannot compute throwing a fight.]
[2Lazy2Care: Solo Man officially the villain of the night.]
[Zoomtech: the groom looks like he wants to cry.]
For some inexplicable reason, his insistence on a fair fight had transformed him into the villain of the evening. The awkward tension eventually dissipated as the musicians hastily resumed playing, attempting to cover up the monumental faux pas.
The grand masquerade finally concluded. Princess Syra and Lord Tianyi departed with their personal army, heading back to the groom’s neighboring kingdom. The local guests dispersed into the night, while the nobles who had traveled from distant territories retired to the guest wings, preparing to leave at first light.
Solomon returned to his quarters alongside his students. He tossed the uncomfortable ceremonial mask onto the desk and collapsed onto his mattress, grateful the exhausting social obligations were finally over. He fell into a deep, uninterrupted sleep.
In the middle of the night, his mind descended into a chaotic, feverish dream. He stood in the center of a muddy battlefield. Thousands of rotting corpses littered the ground. Armored soldiers screamed and clashed swords in a relentless, bloody war.
Suddenly, the fighting stopped entirely. The sun hanging in the sky violently shifted colors, turning a bright, sickening shade of neon pink. The rotting corpses pushed themselves off the mud, grabbed the hands of the surviving soldiers, and began dancing gracefully across the battlefield.
The entire army laughed and celebrated, twirling in perfect sync while singing a cheerful, melodic tune.
Solomon jolted awake in a cold sweat. He sat up on the mattress, his chest heaving as he pulled desperate breaths into his lungs. The ridiculous fever-dream felt far more terrifying to him than any actual nightmare about monsters or death.
"I am never going to another dancing party again," Solomon muttered to the hovering bronze owl, rubbing his tired eyes.
[PandoraLifeweaver: looks like bro had a nightmare about dancing lol.]

[Ron_Selby: tf did u see in your dream bruv.]
[Frendscham: probably girls chasing him or something.]
"Come on guys, it’s not okay to make fun of every little thing I do. Why don’t you guys log off while I sleep? Is it fun to watch a man sleep?"
[MattMickyD: Bro is suddenly acting though.]
[DrakenKorin: he thinks we will forget he woke up from a nightmare.]
"Anyway guys. We are leaving for the sect today. The vacation is over. And we earned a star as well."
