Chapter 219: Departing for the Ruined Azure Kingdom

Lord Jian arrived in the courtyard a few moments later, accompanied by a small retinue of servants. They led two armored warhorses and a spacious wooden carriage pulled by a massive, scaled spirit beast.

"The provisions are packed," Jian announced, gesturing to the transport.

"We will not be needing the carriage," Gideon informed the older royal. "We are taking the direct route through the Whispering Wilds. Please arrange for two additional horses instead."

Jian blinked in surprise but immediately signaled his servants to fetch the extra mounts.

Once the four horses were lined up on the cobblestones, Gideon turned his attention back to the silver-haired boy. "Solomon, do you at least know how to mount a horse properly?"

Solomon puffed his chest out and offered a highly confident grin. "Of course I do."

He absolutely did not.

Solomon approached the nearest brown warhorse, his struggles becoming immediately and painfully obvious. He grabbed the leather reins awkwardly, completely failing to figure out which foot belonged in the stirrup.

Furthermore, the moment Solomon stepped within two feet of the animal, the horse let out a panicked neigh. It reared back on its hind legs, thrashing wildly. The adjacent horses instantly caught the panic, stomping their hooves and kicking aggressively at the cobblestones.

The royal handlers had to rush forward, pulling tightly on the reins just to keep the terrified animals from trampling the boy.

Solomon took a quick step back and pointed an accusing finger at the frantic horses. He looked back and forth between Gideon and Yue. "These animals lack basic manners. They desperately need to be disciplined. They clearly have zero respect for authority."

[1Fizzy: bro is trying to discipline a horse lmao.]

[James_hayes: the horses know he is a menace.]

[Fatal_Beauty: even the animals are scared of Solo Man!]

[Mezz_3863: bro projects too much killing intent.]

[Foodball: the mounts failed the vibe check.]

Jian watched the chaotic scene with profound confusion. "I do not understand why they are acting like this. These are the finest, most thoroughly trained warhorses in the entire Azure Moon Kingdom. They never spook like this."

Gideon scratched his white beard, equally perplexed by the animals’ intense reaction. He let out a tired sigh and turned to the pavilion master. "Pavilion Master, you should mount first. Solomon can climb on behind you once the horse is settled."

Yue nodded. She stepped forward and effortlessly vaulted onto the saddle with practiced grace. She gathered the reins, calming the brown horse with a gentle pat on the neck.

Solomon approached the flank of the horse. The exact second he reached up to grab the back of the saddle, the warhorse completely lost its mind. It let out a terrified shriek, bucking violently and kicking its hind legs into the air.

The sudden, explosive movement threw Yue entirely out of the saddle. Fortunately, she utilized her agile footwork, flipping backward through the air and landing gracefully on her boots.

Gideon rubbed his temples, staring at the panicked animals. He let out another heavy sigh, resigning himself to the inevitable logistical nightmare. "Fine. We will take a carriage for Solomon and Pavilion Master Yue."

Jian quickly ordered the servants to bring the wooden carriage and the scaled spirit beast back to the courtyard.

"We cannot use the spirit beast," Gideon corrected, raising a gauntleted hand. "We are taking the uncharted forest route. The dense magical interference inside the Whispering Wilds will disrupt the spirit beast’s internal core, rendering it completely uncontrollable. Tie two of the warhorses to the carriage instead. They rely on physical stamina rather than mana."

Jian widened his eyes in alarm. "Sir Gideon, the Whispering Wilds are incredibly treacherous. Are you certain about this path?"

"My decision is final," Gideon stated with absolute authority.

The servants quickly unhitched the scaled beast and strapped the two calmer warhorses to the front of the wooden carriage.

Gideon vaulted onto his armored mount, and Sir Kulbro followed suit, securing the rolled map tube against his breastplate. Solomon happily climbed into the spacious cabin of the carriage, completely avoiding any further interaction with the animals.

Yue remained standing on the cobblestones, staring blankly at the driver’s seat of the carriage, and then up at the paladin.

"Obviously, Pavilion Master Yue will not be driving the carriage herself," Gideon noted, recognizing the awkward pause. He turned to Lord Jian. "Please dispatch one of your capable men to handle the reins for the duration of the journey."

As soon as Solomon heard the request, he peeked his head out of the wooden window frame. A wide, devious grin stretched across his face.

"I actually know someone who would be absolutely perfect for the job," Solomon suggested loudly. "He possesses an incredible work ethic, and he is surprisingly excellent at peeling sun-peaches and fetching spices."

Gideon smiled, clearly pleased by the glowing recommendation. "That sounds like an excellent candidate. Who is it?"

Jian looked at the silver-haired boy with deep suspicion. "Whom exactly would you like to request?"

Solomon leaned his elbows against the window frame. "Commander Feng."

[Brerell: AHAHAHA NO WAY!]

[GoonLord: THE ULTIMATE DISRESPECT!]

[2Lazy2Care: bro just demoted the commander to a carriage driver!]

[Zoomtech: Feng is never going to recover from this.]

[M00N: Solo Man is a menace to society.]

[Tyler_Klare: the petty revenge continues!]

Jian clamped his mouth shut, unwilling to argue against a request endorsed by the paladin. And just like that, Commander Feng was officially ordered to abandon his prestigious royal post, strap himself to the driver’s seat, and act as a glorified chauffeur for the silver-haired commoner he absolutely despised.

Commander Feng gripped the wooden reins, his knuckles turning white underneath his steel gauntlets. He stared blankly at the winding dirt road ahead, his mind completely reeling from the sheer absurdity of his current situation.

’What is even happening anymore?’ Feng thought, his chest tightening with suppressed rage.

He had woken up that morning, strapped on his polished silver armor, and marched to his designated post to begin his daily patrols. Suddenly, he noticed several of his trusted subordinates and closest friends were entirely missing from the barracks.

Furthermore, countless other guards and soldiers failed to report for their shifts.

While he was frantically trying to reorganize the patrol routes and locate the missing men, a royal messenger had intercepted him. Without any explanation, he was ordered to report to the courtyard and act as a carriage driver.

’Where are we going? And why am I, the commander of the army, driving a carriage? I didn’t even get to meet my wife and daughter before leaving.’

He still had absolutely no idea where they were going or why he was currently chauffeuring the arrogant commoner he desperately wanted to strangle.
