Longevity: Comprehending the Heart Method
Chapter 474 - 17: The Kingdom Forgotten by the Righteous DaoThe two embraced tightly under the cover of night, but the person beneath the stone pavilion had vanished at some unknown time...
The Lu Country Cultivation Realm was located northwest of the Daqi Cultivation World. It bordered the territory of the Demon Race to the west and connected to the Gusu Cultivation Realm to the east. The land was vast but its resources were scarce. It was known as the most chaotic region in the Southern Continent, with no semblance of order whatsoever.
Here, the principle of "might makes right" was demonstrated in its rawest, most direct form. As long as your fists were strong enough, you could live a comfortable life, regardless of whether you belonged to the Demon Race or followed the Demon Dao.
There were no Defenders of the Dao from the Demon Suppression Hall, who spent their days preoccupied with Demon Slaying. There were no supreme overlords who could blot out the sky with a single hand, and there wasn’t a single shred of humanity to be found.
Coming here meant one of two things: you either killed, or you were killed. There was no other choice.
Yet, it was precisely this nation, seemingly forgotten by the Righteous Dao, that attracted droves of Loose Cultivators and desperados. It became a paradise for them to unleash the Evil Ghosts within their hearts. No matter what they did, no one would condemn them, because here, the strong were justice itself.
Panshi City was located in the southeastern part of the Lu Country Cultivation Realm. It was perhaps the only place in this entire nation that still possessed some semblance of order.
Of course, this "order" was merely a ban on murdering people in the streets. If you were powerful enough, you could completely ignore this restriction.
Even so, this made it a rare sanctuary, a place where one could catch a brief respite.
The setting sun, red as blood, cast its light upon the slightly dilapidated city, adding an air of desolation.
A chaotic crowd was squeezed together at the city gate, all of them waiting to enter. The cacophony of their voices created a deafening clamor.
The nights in the Lu Country Cultivation Realm were rife with endless dangers. Unless you were absolutely confident in your own strength, it was always better to find a city to spend the night in.
The city gate was guarded by several Cultivators clad in wolf-pelt coats. They all had thick, bushy beards, burly builds, and ferocious expressions, emanating a brutish, untamed aura.
Although the area before the gate was already packed, with several conflicts having already broken out, the guards remained listless. They collected the entrance fees at a leisurely pace, occasionally groping any remotely attractive Female Cultivator and tossing out a few lewd remarks, all while turning a blind eye to the chaos in the crowd.
Just then, a young man in tight-fitting black clothes slowly approached from the distance. He had a slender build and looked somewhat frail.
His face was chiseled with sharp, hard lines, his expression cold and severe. His sword-like eyebrows gave off a sharp aura, and his distinctly black-and-white eyes were as deep as the starry sky.
His thick, long hair was casually tied back with a cloth strip, fluttering in the wind with an air of nonchalant rebellion.
He carried a Long Sword on his back, an inconspicuous Bronze Mirror was tucked into his belt, and in his left hand, he held a round, bulging black cloth sack. Step by step, he walked toward Panshi City.
Gazing at the chaotic mob crammed together ahead, the man’s expression remained indifferent as he continued forward. Wherever he went, anyone blocking his path was shoved aside by an invisible force.
His domineering behavior quickly drew a string of curses. Some even planned to teach this ignorant brat a lesson—by gouging out his eyes or shattering his leg bones, for example.
But before they could act, they were frozen by the man’s icy glare. It felt as if they had been targeted by a ravenous beast, sending a chill down their spines.
After weighing their own strength, most of them decided to stay put. They might be vicious, but they weren’t stupid. They knew perfectly well who they could afford to provoke and who they couldn’t.
However, there were always a few who didn’t know when to quit.
A tall Cultivator who hadn’t been in the man’s way suddenly took a large stride, planting himself directly in front of him. His burly figure was like an iron tower, completely blocking the path.
The man’s expression remained unchanged. "Move," he said coldly.
The tall Cultivator let out a sneer, turning to face him. He crossed his arms and said disdainfully, "Kid, you talking to me?"
"Get lost." The man’s gaze grew colder, his voice laced with an unconscious chill.
The surrounding crowd immediately backed away, giving the two men plenty of space. No one left, however. They all watched with great interest, waiting to see what would happen next.
The tall Cultivator scoffed at the word and reached out a hand as large as a fan, aiming for the man’s neck. His fingers were slightly curled, and Blood Qi surged around them. He was clearly a Body Refiner. To be caught by his grip meant one’s life was no longer one’s own.
Just as everyone was wondering whether the tall Cultivator would crush his throat or his head, the black-clad man’s figure blurred and reappeared behind him.
SHING!
The Cyan Blade left its sheath. A razor-sharp burst of Sword Qi flashed for an instant before the blade was swiftly returned to its scabbard.
The tall Cultivator felt a faint sting at his waist. Looking down, he saw a fine line of blood stretching from his navel to his back.
"You fucker!" A surge of rage rushed to his head. He felt utterly humiliated. He spun around violently, but his vision blurred, and the world flipped upside down.
Gasps erupted from the crowd.
Then, he saw a pair of familiar thighs. Steaming blood streamed down the pant legs, quickly staining the ground red.
He strained to widen his eyes, trying to shift his gaze upward to see who owned these legs. But in the end, he realized that what remained standing was only half a person. The part above the navel was gone.
He suddenly realized a terrifying truth. He twisted his head to look behind himself. There was nothing there but a pool of filthy blood, reeking of a foul stench.
