"I will pass it on to her."
Evergreen Immortal Venerable spoke calmly.
The power of the altar boiled over, and at the center of the altar, Li An’s body and soul slowly faded away, dissolving into nothingness.
He was dead.
...
At this very moment.
Rumble!
The dual altars of life and death had already received their sacrifice; within the entire Longevity Secret Realm, it was as if some untouchable existence in the unseen was being opened. As yin and yang intertwined, as life and death fused, between the twin Taiji Mountains, a road suddenly emerged...
This road could not be touched, stretching endlessly into the distance. At its end, there seemed to be a magnificent palace, that palace hidden at the terminus of time and space, transcending all causality, its builder and materials unknown.
Yet it made all who laid eyes upon it feel a yearning in their hearts, as if that was the true land of deliverance, the realm of great freedom, the shore of supreme transcendence!
"Longevity Immortal Palace!"
"In this world, there really is a Longevity Immortal Palace. Now that this palace has manifested, the chance for longevity is right before our eyes!"
"In this age, at last a Longevity Seeker is about to emerge!"
Many Daluo Golden Immortals murmured in excitement; they even felt an almost uncontrollable urge to rush onto that road.
But they all knew that this road did not belong to them.
Upon the dual altars of life and death, Evergreen Immortal Venerable and Yunluo Immortal Venerable were already smiling faintly. They exchanged a glance, and in their eyes was the joy of reaping, at last, the harvest of ten million years of arduous cultivation.
The two stepped side by side onto that road; their figures quickly vanished, as though they were roaming along the river of ages, and in no time they were almost no longer visible.
"The chances for longevity, I fear, are not many."
"In the secret records, the longevity opportunities stored within the Longevity Immortal Palace were left by that Longevity Seeker of the Era of Eternal Life. Sadly, the one he wished to gift them to had long since passed away, so they were left behind..."
"Between the two Immortal Venerables, I fear there will yet be a battle..."
Many Daluo Golden Immortals were filled with anxiety; even Hongbo Fairy had, at this moment, drawn away from the other strange Daluo.
Enemy and friend are but a moment’s turn apart; once interests have diverged, the basis for cooperation naturally ceases to exist.
Everyone was waiting.
...
At this very moment.
The many Daluo Golden Immortals before Taiji Mountain had only waited a brief while, but Evergreen Immortal Venerable and Yunluo Immortal Venerable had already roamed through endless years and time-space.
They were ferrying themselves across within the river of causality; without this road beneath their feet, if they fell into the boundless sea of karma, even Immortal Venerables would find it hard to remain untouched.
It was as though innumerable eras had passed, as though they had endured the baptism of countless spans of time, before they finally arrived before that Longevity Immortal Palace.
Suspended above the palace was a plaque without a single character.
"Longevity Immortal Palace, its name is Emptiness."
The corner of Yunluo Immortal Venerable’s mouth curved with a faintly mocking smile. "To gain longevity and find that all is empty—nothing more than the sentimental grievances of the soft-hearted."
He stepped forward and opened the gates of the Immortal Palace. Within the palace, everything was of peerless splendor: palace pillars cast from supreme Immortal Gold, palace walls painted with Dragon Blood, and even every brick beneath their feet was hewn from Primal Stones of the very beginning. Amid little bridges and flowing waters grew supreme Immortal Elixirs so rare that even Immortal Venerables could hardly find them; what flowed there was nectar that even Creation itself would need to gestate for countless ages.
Even the Chaofeng and Chiwen dragon-sons perched along the palace rooftops were true dragon corpses set in place, by no means mere carvings.
Even though Evergreen Immortal Venerable and Yunluo Immortal Venerable had imagined this Immortal Palace countless times, upon truly stepping into it, there was still astonishment in their eyes.
In the end, they walked into the main hall.
Within the main hall, there was nothing else, only a single coffin placed there.
Their eyes both grew fervent.
Within this coffin should lie the source of longevity they had yearned for in their hearts and sought bitterly for countless ages...
Standing before the coffin, both their expressions were so very calm, with faint smiles, looking for all the world like two dearest friends.
"Daoist Yunluo, tell me, how many portions will there be?"
Evergreen Immortal Venerable smiled faintly.
"One portion. Such is the predetermined number."
Yunluo Immortal Venerable said indifferently.
Evergreen Immortal Venerable spoke softly, "To divide the world in two, to split life and death; you and I jointly wield the authority of the Longevity Seeker, and share longevity together—this is the best method."
"If we fight, both will be wounded. After all our labors through so many ages, let us not hand the advantage to others."
He seemed to have seen through what lay in Yunluo Immortal Venerable’s heart, and thus spoke to remind him.
"That suits me well. I cannot kill you, and you cannot kill me either." Yunluo Immortal Venerable also laughed and said:
"Let us open the coffin first and see. Do not forget, that Longevity Seeker from the Era of Eternal Life was also an ancestor in the art of toying with human hearts. You and I dug up the grave of his beloved confidante, drove him to reverse yin and yang, overturn life and death, and bring down even the Heavenly Court. Who knows whether there might yet be some other scheme?"
The two joined forces and slowly lifted open the coffin!
Within the coffin...
At once, thin white mist slowly rose up!
...
