Lord of Perverted Ladies

Chapter 109: Seventeen minutes

The countdown continued.

00:17:41

I stared at the number.

Seventeen minutes.

That was all we had before the previous story attempted to overwrite the current one.

I looked toward the frozen image of the academy above us.

Every person stood perfectly still.

Students.

Teachers.

Visitors.

Even the leaves outside the windows had stopped moving.

It looked like a photograph.

A photograph waiting to become something else.

"What happens when it reaches zero?"

Noah asked.

The First Reader answered.

"The current story disappears."

"And everyone in it?"

"Not exactly."

He looked toward the frozen academy.

"They’ll be replaced."

Noah frowned.

"Replaced by what?"

"Their previous versions."

Silence.

I looked at the academy again.

Ryan.

Marcus.

Ethan.

Daniel.

Everyone I’d met.

Everyone I’d spent time with.

They would still exist.

But they wouldn’t be the people I knew.

They would become versions from a previous story.

The thought made my stomach twist.

The System appeared again.

______

[Emergency Narrative Event]

Overwrite Progress:

12%

Current Objective:

Prevent Narrative Replacement.

Available Authority:

Writer — Unstable

______

The notification disappeared.

I stared at the pen in my hand.

The old brass body was warm.

Almost alive.

I could feel something moving through it.

Not energy.

Words.

Possibilities.

Every time I looked at someone, I could faintly see sentences surrounding them.

Noah.

Noah Carter laughed.

Then another possibility appeared.

Noah Carter never met Adrian Cross.

Then another.

Noah Carter died in the Archive.

The sentences vanished before I could read more.

I stepped backward.

"I can see them."

The Editor looked at me.

"See what?"

"Possibilities."

Her expression changed.

"Don’t focus on them."

"Why?"

"Because the Writer’s Authority doesn’t distinguish between observation and intention."

I frowned.

"Meaning?"

"If you stare at a possibility long enough..."

She looked at the pen.

"...you might write it."

My grip loosened.

"So I could accidentally change someone."

"Yes."

The First Reader stepped forward.

"That’s why you must learn control before using it."

"We don’t have time."

"No."

"We don’t."

The countdown continued.

00:16:52

The older version of me leaned against the wall.

"You don’t need control."

Everyone looked at him.

He smiled.

"You need a target."

"That’s not reassuring."

"It wasn’t meant to be."

He pointed at the ceiling.

"The overwrite has already started."

A black line appeared across the frozen sky above the academy.

It spread like a crack through glass.

Behind it...

Another sky was visible.

Same academy.

Different architecture.

Different uniforms.

Different people.

The old story was pushing through.

The Editor’s face hardened.

"Then we’re going up."

"How?"

I asked.

She pointed toward the staircase.

"The Archive has an exit."

"We entered through the lower level."

"That’s not the exit."

She walked toward the wall.

There was no door.

No handle.

Nothing.

She placed her palm against the stone.

"Open."

Nothing happened.

She frowned.

"Open."

Still nothing.

The First Reader walked over.

"It won’t respond to you."

"Why?"

"Because you’re not the current authority."

Her eyes moved toward me.

I understood.

I stepped forward.

Placed my palm against the wall.

Nothing happened.

The pen in my hand grew warm.

I hesitated.

Then wrote a single word across the stone with the nib.

OPEN.

The wall immediately split.

A doorway appeared.

No sound.

No dramatic explosion.

It simply became a door because I’d written one.

Noah stared.

"Okay."

"That’s terrifying."

I couldn’t disagree.

We stepped through.

The world changed instantly.

One moment we were inside the Archive.

The next...

We were standing in the academy courtyard.

Everything remained frozen.

Students stood motionless around us.

A cup of coffee hung halfway between someone’s hand and mouth.

A bird remained suspended in the air.

The fountain had stopped mid-splash.

It was disturbing.

But something else was wrong.

The academy looked different.

The buildings were older.

The banners carried another emblem.

The club rooms had different names.

The Mystery Research Club sign was gone.

In its place...

Narrative Observation Society.

I stared at it.

"No."

The First Reader nodded.

"This is the overwrite."

"How much?"

He looked toward the sky.

"Enough."

A bell rang.

Every frozen person suddenly turned their heads toward us.

Not their bodies.

Only their heads.

Hundreds of faces.

All looking at me.

Noah stepped backward.

"That’s not normal."

"No."

The Editor looked toward the main building.

"We need the center."

"What is there?"

"The original classroom."

My stomach tightened.

"The classroom from my memory?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because that’s where the overwrite begins."

We ran.

The courtyard remained frozen around us.

But the moment we passed someone...

They moved.

Not normally.

Their heads followed us.

Their eyes tracked us.

Their mouths opened.

But no sound came out.

Then one student whispered.

"Adrian."

Another repeated it.

"Adrian."

Then another.

Soon the entire courtyard was whispering my name.

The First Reader shouted,

"Don’t answer them!"

We kept moving.

The main building doors opened before we reached them.

Inside...

The hallway was wrong.

Lockers lined the walls.

But every locker had a name.

Not student names.

Versions.

Adrian Cross — Draft 17

Adrian Cross — Draft 23

Adrian Cross — Draft 31

Adrian Cross — Draft 44

Hundreds of them.

Noah stopped.

"How many versions of you are there?"

I looked at the lockers.

"Too many."

One locker opened.

Inside was a photograph.

The hospital.

Another opened.

A black book.

Another.

A brass key.

Another.

The empty chair.

The First Reader grabbed my shoulder.

"Don’t look."

"I need to know."

"No."

"You don’t understand."

"I understand better than you."

He pulled me forward.

"The old story wants you distracted."

We reached the staircase.

The moment we climbed the first step...

The entire building changed.

The walls became white.

The academy disappeared.

We were back inside the hospital.

Rain fell against invisible windows.

The same bed.

The same room.

But the person who had been lying there was gone.

Only the four objects remained.

Photograph.

Key.

Book.

Pen.

The First Reader stopped.

"Don’t touch them."

I stared.

"Why are they here?"

"Because the story is testing whether you’ll repeat your choice."

The Editor looked around.

"We don’t have time."

"Then choose carefully."

The countdown appeared in the air.

00:11:03

The older version of me stepped into the room.

He walked toward the four objects.

"You’ve already chosen the pen."

"Yes."

"Then don’t choose again."

"What happens if I do?"

"You create another contradiction."

The woman appeared beside the hospital bed.

She looked at me.

"You don’t need to choose between them anymore."

"Why?"

"Because you already have all four."

She pointed at me.

"Your memories are returning."

She pointed at the key.

"Your identity is returning."

She pointed at the book.

"The Story belongs to you."

Then she looked at the pen.

"And the authority is waking up."

I looked at my hands.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

She smiled.

"Write."

The room shook.

The walls cracked.

The ceiling opened.

Beyond it was the academy.

But now it wasn’t frozen.

It was burning.

Students ran through the courtyard.

Buildings collapsed.

The sky had become black.

And standing in the middle of it all...

Was someone holding a book.

The Author.

I couldn’t see their face.

But I knew.

They were looking directly at me.

The First Reader stepped beside me.

"That’s where the overwrite ends."

"If they reach you..."

"The story becomes theirs."

The countdown continued.

00:08:47

The pen trembled in my hand.

I could feel words waiting.

Not sentences.

Possibilities.

The old story wanted to return.

The current story wanted to survive.

And both were fighting over the same world.

I looked at the Author.

Then at my friends.

Ryan.

Noah.

Marcus.

Ethan.

Daniel.

All of them appeared in flashes.

Their current versions.

Their old versions.

Lives that had never happened.

Deaths that had never happened.

Choices that had never been made.

The pen moved.

I didn’t consciously tell it to.

A single sentence appeared across the air.

This story belongs to no one.

The entire world stopped.

The Author looked up.

For the first time...

They reacted.

The First Reader stared at me.

"What did you just write?"

"I don’t know."

The sentence spread across the sky.

The cracks stopped.

The burning academy froze.

The countdown disappeared.

Then the System appeared.

______

[Unauthorized Narrative Statement Detected]

Analyzing...

...

Contradiction Found.

...

Statement cannot be rejected.

Reason:

No ownership established.

______

The Author slowly closed their book.

Then...

They laughed.

The sound reached us despite the distance.

Not angry.

Not surprised.

Amused.

The older version of me looked at the sky.

"Oh."

"What?"

He smiled.

"You finally made them angry."

The Author raised one hand.

The sky split open.

A massive black eye appeared above the academy.

It looked down at me.

Then a voice filled the entire world.

"Then let us see..."

"...who writes the next sentence."

The pen in my hand became burning hot.

The System flashed one final notification.

______

[New Authority Recognized]

Writer’s Authority — Temporary

Condition: One sentence may be written.

Warning: The next sentence will permanently alter the story.

______

I stared at the blank space before me.

One sentence.

One chance.

And for the first time...

I understood what the Author had been afraid of.

It wasn’t my memories.

It wasn’t my identity.

It wasn’t the Black Door.

It was the possibility that I could write something they couldn’t erase.
