The ocean moved.
Not like a wave.
Not like a current.
The entire sea seemed to breathe.
I stood at the edge of Alisster, staring toward the horizon while the wooden car remained in my hand.
EVOLUTION.
The word was still carved underneath it.
Noah looked at me.
"Please tell me that doesn’t mean what I think it means."
"I don’t know what you think it means."
"Something huge woke up under the ocean."
Ryan nodded.
"That’s exactly what I think it means."
"Then yes."
Ryan sighed.
"Fantastic."
The Guardian was no longer smiling.
She was staring at the sea.
"Something has changed."
My father raised his weapon.
"What?"
"Life."
She closed her eyes.
"I can feel it."
"Where?"
"Everywhere."
The ocean suddenly pulled away from the shoreline.
Hundreds of meters.
Then thousands.
The seabed became visible.
Ships that had been lost for centuries appeared.
Buildings.
Ruins.
Entire forests of coral.
And something else.
A massive trail.
Something had moved across the ocean floor.
Something enormous.
Ryan stared.
"That’s not a trail."
Noah looked closer.
"Then what is it?"
The Guardian whispered,
"Those are footprints."
Silence.
The first one was almost a kilometer wide.
The second disappeared beyond the horizon.
The third...
was forming right in front of us.
The seabed cracked.
Water rushed backward.
Something beneath the earth was moving.
I felt a familiar pressure inside my chest.
Not power.
Not memory.
Recognition.
"Everyone back."
Nobody argued.
The ocean erupted.
A column of water shot into the sky.
Something enormous rose beneath it.
At first, I couldn’t understand what I was looking at.
There was no recognizable shape.
It had too many limbs.
Too many eyes.
Its body constantly shifted.
Scales became skin.
Skin became armor.
Armor became something translucent.
Then it changed again.
Every few seconds, its body adapted to the environment around it.
The moment sunlight touched it, its skin became reflective.
When the air hit it, gills appeared and disappeared.
When it sensed us, its eyes changed.
The creature was learning.
No.
Not learning.
Evolving.
The Guardian whispered,
"It has no fixed form."
I stared.
"Why?"
"Because it never had one."
The creature looked toward me.
Thousands of eyes opened across its body.
Every eye focused on me.
Then one voice entered my mind.
YOU.
I stepped forward.
"Me."
The creature tilted its enormous head.
YOU CHOSE.
"Yes."
YOU FREED EXISTENCE.
"Yes."
THEN I AM FREE.
The ocean shook.
I felt something inside me change.
Not because it was attacking.
Because I understood.
This creature hadn’t been created by anyone.
Not by the Creator.
Not by the Origin.
Not by me.
It had emerged from possibility.
Evolution itself had produced something capable of making choices.
The second choice wasn’t about whether existence should be free.
It was about what freedom would create.
The creature opened its mouth.
There were no teeth.
Inside was another set of eyes.
I CHOOSE TO EXIST.
I smiled.
"Then exist."
The creature suddenly stopped.
Its thousands of eyes narrowed.
THAT IS ALL?
"What do you want me to say?"
YOU ARE THE ONE WHO CREATED FREEDOM.
"I didn’t create you."
YOU CREATED THE CONDITION THAT ALLOWED ME TO EXIST.
"That’s different."
IS IT?
I looked at the creature.
"Yes."
It stared at me.
I continued.
"If I created the condition, that doesn’t mean I created the result."
The creature remained silent.
"You chose to exist."
YES.
"Then you’re responsible for what you become."
The creature’s body began changing.
Its enormous form shrank.
Limbs disappeared.
Eyes vanished.
Its body compressed.
Within seconds, the monster became something much smaller.
A creature about the size of a horse emerged from the water.
It had smooth black skin, four legs and a long tail.
Its eyes were still strange.
But it looked almost harmless.
Ryan stared.
"That thing just turned into a horse."
The creature looked at him.
I AM NOT A HORSE.
Ryan jumped.
"IT TALKS!"
Noah laughed.
"I think it can hear you."
"I gathered that!"
The creature walked onto the shore.
Water dripped from its body.
It looked at each of us.
Then stopped in front of me.
WHAT AM I?
I crouched.
"I don’t know."
YOU DON’T KNOW?
"No."
YOU ARE THE CREATOR.
"I’m not."
The creature looked confused.
I pointed toward the city.
"Look around."
It did.
People were walking.
Children were playing.
Machines were operating.
Animals moved through the streets.
Everywhere, choices were being made.
"Nobody controls this world anymore."
The creature watched.
THEN WHO DECIDES WHAT I BECOME?
"You."
It stared at me.
For the first time, I saw something resembling emotion in its eyes.
Fear.
I DON’T KNOW HOW.
I smiled.
"Neither did I."
The creature tilted its head.
"You?"
"Yes."
YOU DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO BECOME YOURSELF?
"No."
I stood.
"I just kept choosing."
The creature looked toward the city.
Then back at me.
THEN I WILL DO THE SAME.
It walked past me.
But after three steps, it stopped.
WHAT SHOULD I CALL MYSELF?
Ryan immediately said,
"Bob."
The creature turned.
NO.
Ryan looked offended.
"Hey, I was trying to help."
The creature looked at me.
I thought for a moment.
"Choose your own name."
It stared at me.
Then a single word appeared inside my mind.
AERON.
The creature looked pleased.
I AM AERON.
I smiled.
"Good to meet you, Aeron."
Aeron looked toward the ocean.
Then suddenly froze.
Its entire body changed.
The black skin became transparent.
Its ears disappeared.
Its eyes widened.
I felt the change too.
Something was approaching.
Not from the ocean.
From below.
Aeron turned toward me.
THERE IS ANOTHER.
"Another what?"
ANOTHER LIFE THAT CHOSE ITSELF.
The sea began glowing.
The Guardian stepped forward.
"That’s impossible."
Aeron looked at her.
YOU ARE STILL THINKING LIKE THE OLD WORLD.
She went silent.
The ocean split.
A massive spiral appeared beneath the surface.
Something was rising.
But unlike Aeron...
this thing wasn’t alive.
At least, not yet.
It was a structure.
A massive organic formation.
Like a tree growing underwater.
Its branches stretched for kilometers.
Its roots disappeared into the ocean floor.
At the center was a glowing sphere.
The sphere pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then—
thump.
The same heartbeat.
I knew it immediately.
"The First World."
The Guardian shook her head.
"No."
"What?"
"It’s older."
The First Reader stared at the ocean.
"Much older."
Aeron stepped backward.
IT WAS HERE BEFORE ME.
I looked at the structure.
"Then why didn’t we see it?"
The Guardian answered.
"Because it wasn’t alive."
The sphere pulsed again.
THUMP.
The ocean turned completely still.
Every creature within sight stopped moving.
Fish.
Birds.
Even the waves.
Everything froze.
Then a message appeared in the sky.
EVOLUTION STAGE TWO.
I stared.
Another line appeared.
LIFE HAS LEARNED TO CHOOSE.
Then:
NOW CHOICE MUST LEARN TO LIVE.
The glowing sphere cracked.
Something emerged.
A small creature.
It looked almost like a jellyfish.
Transparent.
Fragile.
It floated above the water.
I expected it to fall.
Instead, it moved toward Aeron.
The two creatures stared at each other.
Aeron’s body changed.
The jellyfish changed too.
Then both changed again.
And again.
And again.
They were adapting to each other.
Not fighting.
Not cooperating.
Simply responding.
I suddenly understood.
Evolution wasn’t about becoming stronger.
It was about responding to change.
The new world had no Creator.
Therefore, nothing could remain fixed.
Everything had to adapt.
The jellyfish suddenly divided.
One became two.
Two became four.
Four became eight.
Within seconds, thousands floated above the ocean.
Ryan stared.
"Uh..."
Noah looked at him.
"What?"
"Are they multiplying?"
"Yes."
"How fast?"
The First Reader looked horrified.
"Too fast."
The jellyfish began spreading.
Across the ocean.
Toward Alisster.
I looked at the horizon.
A wave of them was approaching.
Not aggressive.
Just growing.
The Guardian turned to me.
"What do we do?"
I watched the creatures.
Then looked at Aeron.
"What do you think?"
Aeron stared at the swarm.
THEY ARE NOT ATTACKING.
"Exactly."
THEY ARE SEARCHING.
"For what?"
Aeron looked at me.
A PLACE TO EVOLVE.
I smiled.
"Then let them."
The Guardian looked shocked.
"You can’t be serious."
"Why not?"
"Because we don’t know what they’ll become."
"Neither did they."
I pointed toward Aeron.
"And neither did I."
The swarm reached the shoreline.
The creatures floated through the streets.
People screamed.
Some ran.
Others stopped and watched.
One jellyfish touched a tree.
Its body changed.
Another touched a car.
It changed.
One touched a building.
Its body became hard.
They were learning from everything.
Aeron watched.
Then something strange happened.
One jellyfish touched a human.
It didn’t change.
The human didn’t change either.
They simply stood there.
Connected.
The jellyfish pulsed.
The human smiled.
I felt something in the air.
A choice.
The jellyfish had found something it couldn’t evolve around.
A mind.
A decision.
The creature pulled away.
Then another approached.
Then another.
Soon, hundreds of them were surrounding people.
Nobody was being attacked.
They were observing.
Learning.
Adapting.
I smiled.
"This is it."
Noah looked at me.
"What?"
"The second choice."
He frowned.
"The creature?"
"No."
I looked at the people.
"It’s what happens when life discovers other life."
Aeron turned toward me.
WHAT HAPPENS?
I watched the first jellyfish touch a human hand.
"Relationships."
The creature pulsed.
The human laughed.
The sky suddenly changed.
The message disappeared.
A new one appeared.
EVOLUTION STAGE TWO COMPLETE.
I stared.
"Already?"
The message changed.
NEXT STAGE: INTELLIGENCE.
The ground shook.
Every jellyfish stopped moving.
Every creature on Earth suddenly looked toward the same direction.
The ocean.
Something beneath it had awakened.
A voice entered every mind simultaneously.
Not mine.
Not Aeron’s.
Not the Guardian’s.
Something else.
Something ancient.
"IF LIFE CAN CHOOSE..."
The ocean began rising.
"...THEN LIFE CAN CREATE."
Aeron looked at me.
"ADRIAN."
"What?"
Its eyes widened.
"THE OCEAN IS THINKING."
I turned toward the sea.
The water began forming shapes.
A face.
Two enormous eyes.
A mouth.
The entire ocean was becoming something.
The Guardian whispered,
"No."
I looked at her.
"What?"
She stared at the horizon.
"The ocean was never just the environment."
The water continued rising.
"It was waiting."
"For what?"
She looked at me.
"For a mind."
The ocean opened its enormous eyes.
And the entire world heard its first word.
"I."
Everything went silent.
Then—
"CHOOSE."
The second choice had begun.
