Even the First Choice was afraid.

Adrian had never imagined those words could exist together.

Choice was supposed to be the beginning.

The first possibility.

The first decision.

The thing that came before worlds, before creation, before the Creator.

Yet somewhere in the darkness beyond the tower, something had made the First Choice afraid.

Adrian looked at his brother.

"Did you hear that?"

His brother nodded.

"Yes."

"Do you know what it is?"

"No."

The First Reader stepped backward.

"That isn’t possible."

Ryan looked at him.

"You’ve said that a lot today."

"This time I mean it."

The First Reader’s voice trembled.

"If something existed before the First Choice, then the records are wrong."

The Guardian’s voice came from somewhere behind them.

"No."

Everyone turned.

The Guardian had entered the tower.

Adrian stared at him.

"I thought you weren’t coming."

"I changed my mind."

Ryan sighed.

"Of course you did."

The Guardian looked toward the darkness.

"The records aren’t wrong."

"Then what are they?"

"Incomplete."

The word echoed through the chamber.

One of the doors slammed shut.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

The versions of Adrian standing around them began disappearing.

One by one.

The child holding the wooden car remained.

Adrian looked at him.

"Who are they?"

The child shook his head.

"Possibilities."

"Why are they disappearing?"

"Because they were never chosen."

Another door vanished.

Then another.

Adrian suddenly understood.

The tower wasn’t a place containing alternate versions of him.

It was a place where every possibility had been stored.

And now something was erasing them.

A deep sound came from above.

Not a voice.

Not a roar.

A vibration.

The tower itself seemed to react.

The white walls became transparent.

Adrian looked upward.

There was no ceiling anymore.

Beyond it was something impossible.

Not space.

Not darkness.

Something that existed before both.

A vast, colorless expanse.

And inside it were shapes.

Thousands.

Millions.

They had no bodies.

No faces.

They were simply points of awareness.

Watching.

Adrian’s brother whispered,

"What are those?"

The Guardian answered.

"The Before."

The First Reader looked at him.

"You knew?"

"I suspected."

"Why didn’t you tell us?"

"Because knowing about something isn’t the same as being ready to see it."

Ryan looked at the enormous shapes.

"I don’t think anyone is ready."

One of the shapes moved.

The entire tower shook.

Then a voice entered Adrian’s mind.

Not one voice.

Millions speaking as one.

THE CREATOR HAS RETURNED.

Adrian immediately shook his head.

"No."

The voice continued.

THE CREATOR HAS RETURNED.

"I rejected that."

REJECTION DOES NOT CHANGE ORIGIN.

Adrian stepped forward.

"I am human."

Silence.

Then:

THEN WHY DO YOU REMEMBER?

Adrian had no answer.

The child beside him looked up.

"Because he was there."

Adrian frowned.

"Where?"

The child pointed toward the colorless expanse.

"Before."

Adrian felt a cold sensation move through him.

"No."

The First Choice’s voice suddenly echoed through the tower.

"Adrian!"

The word carried urgency.

The Guardian turned toward the darkness.

"What happened?"

The First Choice appeared.

But he looked different.

He was no longer the young man Adrian had met before.

He looked exhausted.

His clothes were torn.

Blood ran down one side of his face.

Adrian stared.

"What happened to you?"

The First Choice looked toward the shapes.

"They found me."

"Who?"

"The Before."

One of the enormous shapes moved.

The First Choice immediately stepped backward.

"They were never supposed to wake."

Adrian stared at him.

"You said Choice came first."

"It did."

"Then what are they?"

The First Choice looked at Adrian.

"They are not choices."

"Then what are they?"

"Conditions."

Adrian frowned.

The First Choice continued.

"Before there was a choice, there had to be something capable of making one."

The room became silent.

"Those things were the conditions that allowed choice to exist."

Adrian looked upward.

"Are they alive?"

"No."

"Are they conscious?"

"No."

"Then what are they?"

The First Choice’s expression darkened.

"They are laws."

The word echoed.

"Not laws like gravity."

He pointed toward the shapes.

"They are deeper than that."

"Memory."

"Existence."

"Possibility."

"Change."

"Identity."

"Time."

"Causality."

"Meaning."

Adrian stared.

"Those existed before Choice?"

The First Choice nodded.

"Not as concepts."

"As conditions."

The Guardian stepped forward.

"And one of those conditions is waking."

The First Choice looked at him.

"Yes."

Adrian understood.

Something that had existed before choice was becoming conscious.

And now it was looking at them.

The largest shape moved.

A pressure filled the tower.

Everyone dropped to their knees.

Adrian struggled to breathe.

His brother grabbed his arm.

"Adrian!"

"I’m fine."

"You’re not."

"I said I’m fine."

The pressure suddenly disappeared.

A voice spoke.

QUESTION.

Adrian looked upward.

The voice wasn’t asking.

It was identifying him.

YOU ARE THE QUESTION.

Adrian’s heartbeat accelerated.

CHOICE CREATED YOU.

Another pulse.

CREATION REMEMBERED YOU.

Another.

EMOTION CONNECTED YOU.

Another.

DESIRE FOLLOWED YOU.

The tower began cracking.

CONFLICT REJECTED YOU.

Adrian stared upward.

"What do you want?"

The answer came immediately.

ANSWER.

Adrian’s expression hardened.

"An answer to what?"

The entire world went silent.

Then the voice asked:

WHY DO YOU EXIST?

Adrian froze.

It was the same question.

The first question.

The question that had started everything.

Why?

He looked at his mother.

His brother.

Elia.

Aeron.

Noah.

Ryan.

The Guardian.

The First Choice.

Everyone was watching him.

For years, he had searched for the answer.

He had thought it was power.

Then purpose.

Then creation.

Then memory.

Then freedom.

But none of those felt right.

Adrian looked at the child holding the wooden car.

The child smiled.

Adrian finally understood.

"I exist because I choose to."

The tower went silent.

The First Choice closed his eyes.

The Guardian smiled.

But the Before did not react.

Instead, the voice asked another question.

WHO GAVE YOU THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE?

Adrian hesitated.

"Choice."

WHO CREATED CHOICE?

"I don’t know."

THEN YOU DO NOT KNOW WHY YOU EXIST.

Adrian clenched his fists.

"That doesn’t mean I don’t exist."

The voice became louder.

EVERYTHING HAS A BEGINNING.

Adrian shook his head.

"No."

The voice stopped.

Adrian continued.

"Not everything needs one."

The First Choice stared at him.

Adrian stepped forward.

"You keep asking who created the thing before it."

He looked toward the massive shapes.

"But maybe that’s the mistake."

"What if nothing created Choice?"

"What if nothing created existence?"

"What if nothing created me?"

His voice echoed through the tower.

"What if we’re all here because eventually something chose to happen?"

The silence was enormous.

Then the child beside him laughed.

The same laugh Adrian remembered from his first memory.

The First Choice smiled.

The Guardian lowered his head.

The Before moved.

But this time, it didn’t attack.

It changed.

One of the enormous shapes began shrinking.

Then another.

Then another.

The colorless expanse slowly filled with light.

The laws were becoming something else.

Adrian watched in confusion.

"What is happening?"

The First Choice whispered,

"They’re choosing."

Adrian stared.

"They can choose?"

"They couldn’t before."

"Why now?"

The First Choice looked at him.

"Because you gave them a reason."

Adrian shook his head.

"I didn’t."

"Yes."

"How?"

"You asked them a question."

Adrian frowned.

The First Choice smiled.

"And they couldn’t answer."

The tower shook violently.

The enormous shapes began collapsing into points of light.

One became two.

Two became hundreds.

Hundreds became thousands.

Then millions.

The entire colorless expanse filled with stars.

Adrian stared.

The Before had transformed.

Not into gods.

Not into creatures.

Into possibilities.

The same thing that had once been inside Adrian’s tower.

The same thing that had eventually become choice.

The First Choice looked at Adrian.

"You just became the beginning."

Adrian immediately shook his head.

"No."

"You did."

"No."

"Why?"

"Because I don’t want to be."

The First Choice laughed.

"And that is exactly why you are."

The System appeared.

For the first time in a long time, its message didn’t feel like an order.

It simply appeared.

ORIGIN REDEFINED.

Then:

BEGINNING IS NOT A PLACE.

Another line appeared.

BEGINNING IS THE FIRST THING THAT CHOOSES TO CONTINUE.

Adrian stared at the message.

Then the tower disappeared.

Everyone found themselves standing beneath an ordinary sky.

The ocean was calm.

The city was quiet.

The children were still there.

Nothing appeared to have changed.

But Adrian knew it had.

The First Choice looked at him.

"This isn’t over."

Adrian sighed.

"I knew you’d say that."

"The next stage has already begun."

Adrian looked at the sky.

"What stage?"

The First Choice didn’t answer.

Instead, the wooden car in Adrian’s hand changed again.

The word BEGINNING disappeared.

A new word appeared.

IDENTITY.

Adrian stared at it.

His brother stepped closer.

"What does that mean?"

Before Adrian could answer, every child in the city suddenly spoke at the same time.

"We remember who we are."

The lights above them flickered.

Then a new message appeared.

NEXT EVOLUTION: IDENTITY.

Adrian looked toward his mother.

She was staring at him.

There was fear in her eyes.

But there was something else too.

Recognition.

As though she had finally remembered something important.

"Adrian..."

He turned.

"What?"

She took a breath.

"I remember your first name."

Adrian’s heart stopped.

"What was it?"

She looked at him.

"You didn’t have one."

He frowned.

"Then what did they call me?"

Her voice became barely audible.

"They called you..."

She stopped.

The sky went dark.

Every child froze.

The ocean stopped moving.

The First Choice disappeared.

The Guardian vanished.

Even Adrian’s brother was gone.

Adrian stood alone.

Then a voice whispered directly behind him.

Not from the sky.

Not from the ocean.

Not from the tower.

From his own memory.

"You were never Adrian."

Adrian slowly turned around.

A little boy stood there.

The boy looked exactly like him.

But unlike the others, this child wasn’t holding a wooden car.

He was holding something else.

A name.

Written on a piece of paper.

The child smiled.

"That’s the name you chose after you forgot."

Adrian stared at the paper.

Then the child held it out.

Adrian took it.

He looked down.

And finally saw the name he had been searching for since the beginning.

His real name.

The name that existed before Adrian Cross.

The name that had been erased before his first memory.

Adrian’s hands began trembling.

Because the name wasn’t strange.

It wasn’t divine.

It wasn’t ancient.

It wasn’t the name of a Creator.

It was something much more frightening.

It was a name he recognized.

His own voice whispered it.

And somewhere inside the world...

something answered.
