The heavy blast door opened, and a wave of heat washed over her as the roar of running machinery filled her ears.

Jiang Che walked into a massive Alchemy Workshop. The first thing that caught her eye was a colossal reactor, no smaller than a nuclear power plant’s cooling tower. It glowed a deep crimson, and countless cables and power conduits connected to its base, making it look like a captured volcano.

"How did you end up like this?" Jiang Che asked.

Gu Xue was hailed as a child prodigy in her youth. At thirty-five, she became a world-renowned Alchemical Great Sage. She specialized in the mechanical Realm and her most famous achievement was creating this fully automated Alchemy Workshop, which could endlessly produce Alchemy Tools without any manpower. It produced countless Artifacts annually and even became an equipment supplier for the Star Association.

But that wasn’t the most important thing.

The important thing was, Gu Xue was over fifty years old. Although she always took great care of her appearance and looked no different than she did in her twenties, there was no way she could look like a young girl.

For a moment, Jiang Che had wondered if her teacher had an illegitimate daughter she never knew about.

"There was an accident not long ago during an experiment to complete the automation Matrix for the Godslaying Weapon. It caused my body to reverse-age until I looked twelve. It’s impossible to reverse it again, so I’ll just have to grow up slowly," Gu Xue explained with a helpless shrug of her small hands. Then she patted the sofa beside her. "Come, sit."

Jiang Che sat down beside her.

Congratulations on getting your revenge. It’s a shame I couldn’t be there because of my experiment, otherwise I would have put a few bullets in that bastard myself."

"I did it for you," Jiang Che said.

"Good."

Gu Xue studied her for a moment, then smiled in relief. "You’ve finally lost that gloomy, tense air about you."

The Jiang Che of the past had been shrouded in a terrifying gloom, always seeming on edge. Now, she was completely different. Although a trace of that fierce somberness remained, she was no longer so tense. She had relaxed.
