Lord Shadow

Chapter 2065: The River Has A Keeper, the Tree Gave Life

Odin look at Alsurt and then he chuckles. He himself feel it funny. He alos had not feel this for long

The feeling of being beaten. The feeling of such powerlessness. And for some reason he felt young again

He almost wanted to laugh at this notion.

"River Master" Odin simply said these two words and Alsurt frowns. Odin saw Alsurt face changing and he could not help but smirk

Just like Odin, Alsurt has live a long existence. There are not many things that could surprise him.

Seeing this expression on Alsurt face made him almost feel satisfied.

"He exist?"

Odin looking at Alsurt reaction was amused for a second. And he nodded. Then Odin ask

"You never saw him?"

Alsurt think or a moment but then he shook his head

"In the past, I did step into the long river of time and pass through time and space. But I never met any river keeper. Or is it river master? I did heard stories about Him, but I never thought it was true."

Alsurt paused for a moment and then added

"It sounds so absurd that the river has a keeper" Odin only smiles bitterly at this.

"River Keeper, River master, River Guardian. No one knows His real name so people just give Him these kind of title. No one spoke to Him either so no one really knows what He is doing there. But the fact that the one in the Garden did not do anything means there is nothing wrong for that River Keeper to be there"

Alsurt is silent for a moment. He never knows the River has a Keeper and he never goes to the Garden.

He heard of the garden, but the stories he heard about the garden is all hearsay and myths. He had traverse the rivers a few times in his youth but he had never seen the garden.

Then he look at Odin and he frowns.

Then he ask

"He is that powerful?"

Alsurt knows Odin.

After all, he fought Odin.

And for beings like them there is no better way to know someone true power then when they fight each other

He knows more than others how terrible the power that Odin possesses. Not to mention all the kinds of artifact and relics that Odin himself possesses which are all powerful magical weapons.

He also have his two ravens and his two wolf; both are creatures that could wreak havoc in the Omniverse.

In some worlds, those two ravens and those two wolves have their own myths and their own stories separate from Odin himself.

Then there is Odin himself.

Blessed by the magic of the Tree of Creation, his body is so strong that one would feel despair just trying to make him bleed.

Even when he bleeds, he would heal almost immediately.

The last time he was hurt was during the War around five thousand years ago when they clash with Olympus and that eagle head.

But even then....he was never hurt this badly.

Odin then said

"That keeper could wade all over the river of time like he is bathing in it"

"Anyone would turn into ashes just by bathing in that river, washed by time and space, by cause and effect and affected by the fate and destiny that would surely stuck on them like some bad karma"

Odin could not help but chuckles bitterly as he said

"but he is wading that river like it is a normal river. Time did not affect him and space breaks and appears before him depending on his will"

"He could move the entire timeline without worrying about cause and effect and could shoulder cause and effect that would bring calamities to beings like us. All I manage to do is hold his arm and his hand from falling down"

Odin could not help but scoff

"And that also need the help of an Etherna"

"Fortunately, that place is free from cause and effect and Wargod could release his seal. With the power of Etherna and myself, we managed to hold out his hand. I was hurt and Wargod also probably get hurt"

He paused for a second and then added

"All of that effort, all of that power....just to stop a hand from falling down" Odin smiles bitterly.

He knew Wargod coming to that place is a gamble. Wargod probably has always dreaded to come to that place

But at that time, he probably made the judgement that if he did not came, then the child in that space time tunnel would not be able to survive.

After all that nurturing, how could Wargod let that child dies. Almost ordained by fate and destiny, the fate of the Etherna, the hope of Etherna is now all placed on that child shoulder.

Wargod probably would have gambled everything.

And in the end that gamble was right.

Though, thinking about it right now, it is not so much of a gamble. Wargod had no other choice.

This kind of cumulation of fate and fortune into one person would not happen again in the world.

That one in the garden...if he wanted to, he could have just said a word and annihilate Wargod here and there

Was He dissatisfied with the River Keeper action so He allowed Wargod appearing so near the Garden?

Odin always wonder who and what the River Keeper is?

Is He the servant of the one in the garden? Is He a separate entity born from the One Himself like the Creator and the Destroyer?

Or is the River Keeper a different entity completely?

"heh" Odin chuckles to himself.

Right now, he is bleeding from his stomach.

There is a hole in what used to be his stomach

Golden blood is dripping.

And he is now under the tree of creation basking on the healing power of the tree.

Alsurt is helping him

"Why did you fight the River Keeper?" Alsurt asked.

While he is shocked that the River Keeper stories are true, the more pressing question is why would Odin fight such a being.

Alsurt only knows a little about the Garden.

He himself had never go to that garden.

And he himself had never seen the things that Odin had seen.

However, he knew something about Odin that most people don’t know about. Odin rarely fight when he could talk.

Loki was not the original trickster.

For those who don’t know Odin when he was young, he was the trickster.

When he assume the throne, he of course had to shed that image of a trickster and Loki came and become the trickster and the title stuck.

And most of those subject of Odin also rarely brings up Odin trickster past.

But it is because he knows Odin past that he felt weird that Odin would fight such a being.

Odin probably knows before he even fought that he would lose. Yet, he fought anyway. This is very weird and very uncharacteristic of him

Odin smiles bitterly

"What else? That child"

Hearing this Alsurt eyes suddenly brightens for a moment before he look back at Odin

"That child?"

Odin nodded

Hearing this Alsurt could not help but chuckles bitterly. He always thought that child had a great destiny. He never thought that destiny is this "great"

But to make sure he ask

"You mean the River Keeper, the myth of the river of time was attacking that child?"

But hearing this question Odin tilted his head.

"To be honest, I do not really know"

Odin is choosing his words wisely. Because he truly did not know what that being wanted. One could not judge his intention merely by a few instances of action

After all, even his action sometimes doesn’t conform to expectation. This is simply because he possess a different information and other people have different information.

So, sometimes a move that is logical in his perspective seems inexplicable to other people eyes.

Then the action of the River Keeeper....no matter how inexplicable must have its own logic embedded into it

Odin sighed and then he said to Alsurt

"We could not be sure of His intention"

"After all, for a being that could see through time and space like that, seeing all cause and effects and could change timeline as easily as changing clothes, one could not fathom the ideas of such beings"

"But we felt that palpitation in our hearts. We know if that palm landed on that child, all of the plans, all of the preparation, all of the changes that has been done would....somehow collapse"

Odin did not know how to explain it.

But when the River Keeper pointed his hand toward the space and time where Azief was, Odin felt a calamity that struck his soul.

It is a premonition and it is the kind of premonition he hated the most. So, he appears there on the bank of the river of time. And probably Wargod also felt the same way.

And it is because he felt such way, Wargod also appear there taking the gamble of his life...literally

Alsurt hearing this could not help but frown and then he sighed.

He look at Odin eyes and his eyes turns sharp

"I don’t like my disciple becoming some tool of yours"
