Chapter 278: Chapter 273: Gate of Death

Leviathan One hovered outside the largest exit of the coral encampment, its colossal body scattering the schools of fish in the area.

Velin stood on the command platform, gazing at the three-dimensional nautical chart below him.

"Leviathan, begin charging."

The command was issued through the Hive Matrix.

The energy circuits on Leviathan One’s surface, usually dim, now lit up section by section. The ghostly blue light seemed particularly sinister in the deep sea.

In the deepest part of the vessel, the Thunderstone Core, its energy source, began to spin.

Waves of energy radiated outward, churning the currents. In the darkness outside the main exit, a ball of light was slowly coalescing.

The fluctuations from this power made every Multi-Armed Race Warrior trapped in the "cage" feel a sense of dread.

Grash felt the vibration.

He looked up, the increasingly blinding light outside the exit reflecting in his slit-like pupils.

"Do you see that, Korsh?" Grash’s tentacle pointed toward the light. "Judging by those energy fluctuations, that’s at least Five-Ring Magic. If it finishes charging, we’re all done for!"

Korsh was also looking at the light, but he felt uneasy. ’Something isn’t right,’ he thought. ’It can’t be this simple.’

"General, this might be a trap."

"There’s no time to worry about traps!" Grash’s roar drowned out the groans within the camp. "This is our only chance of survival! Everyone who can still move, follow me!"

"Attack that knot! Now!"

Twelve Level 5 Warriors followed behind him. They were the last remaining force in the camp still at full combat strength.

They charged toward the knot, which was fashioned from several old nautical cables spliced together.

"Together!" Grash bellowed.

The twelve Warriors erupted with multicolored auras, leaving distorted ribbons of light in the water.

They aimed their weapons at the same point and unleashed their strongest attacks.

Bone blades, sharp claws, and long spears, all shrouded in their auras, tore through the water with a dull THUD.

How could a mere fishing net made of common iron and hemp rope possibly withstand the full-force attack of twelve Warriors?

"RRRRIP—"

The seemingly sturdy knot snapped on impact.

A gap wide enough for three Warriors to pass through abreast was violently torn into the massive fishing net.

The opening had appeared.

Inside the camp, the Warriors who had collapsed from poison and despair first stared in a daze.

Then, the instinct to survive overrode everything else.

"An exit! It’s an exit!"

"Hurry, get out!"

The surviving Multi-Armed Race Warriors cheered wildly. Led by their respective captains, they surged recklessly toward the opening like a bursting dam.

Watching his people begin to escape, Grash’s tightly clenched tentacles relaxed slightly.

He swam to Korsh’s side and shoved him toward the opening.

"You lead them out! Organize the retreat!"

Korsh looked back at Grash.

"General, you..."

"I’ll cover the rear!" Grash raised his battle-ax, pointing at the shadow of the behemoth outside the main exit. "I’m going to show these weak-legged landlubbers that not a single Warrior of the Multi-Armed Race is a coward!"

...

Inside the command cabin of Leviathan Two.

Sea Wolf watched the red dots representing the enemy swarm out of the newly created opening on the tactical map, and he leaped from his seat in agitation.

"My lord! They’re all getting away!"

He shouted anxiously.

"When will our Tempest Snare be ready?!"

Ola gripped his battle-ax.

"Lord Velin! Give the order! I’ll take the Knights out and block that gap!"

Velin didn’t move.

He just watched the screen, watching the red dots gather in ever-increasing numbers outside the opening, forming a dense red cloud.

"Don’t be so hasty."

"The fish haven’t all been gathered yet."

Just as the largest group of Multi-Armed Race Warriors poured out of the opening, thinking they had escaped to safety, and were regrouping outside—even letting out cheers of survival...

"Initiate Overclocking Protocol."

"As you command!"

The Thunderstone Core inside Leviathan One let out a piercing shriek.

The core’s rotational speed instantly broke past its safety threshold.

The ghostly blue electrical arcs grew much thicker, erupting from the core and surging along the energy circuits, pouring into every magic node on the Deep Sea Lord’s skin.

The "Tempest Snare," which would have originally taken three minutes to form, was completed in a single second.

A giant net composed of pure lightning unfurled above the fishing net.

The Multi-Armed Race Warriors who had just burst from their cage were cheering outside the opening, celebrating their new lease on life.

And then, they smashed headfirst into the newly formed field of lightning.

The limbs of the Warriors at the very front were instantly charred black upon contact with the electric grid, and the savage current made them let out bloodcurdling screams.

Countless bubbles swelled up from under their skin, then floated up from their carbonized limbs as their entire bodies convulsed and were thrown backward.

Then came the second row, the third... Swaths of Warriors repeated the horrifying process.

They didn’t die instantly, but the heart-rending agony and despair were more torturous than death itself.

A few disbelieving Level 5 Warriors roared, driving all the aura in their bodies in an attempt to force their way through the electric grid.

However, their protective auras offered only a moment of resistance against the grid before being pierced through.

The current tore through their bodies, melting their armor and producing a horrific "ZZZZZT" sound.

They were pinned firmly to the electric grid, forced to watch as their bodies carbonized and bubbled, electrocuted to death amidst violent convulsions. They became charred, humanoid husks, tumbling like broken dolls in the dark currents.

The intense flashes of light sparked by the Multi-Armed Warriors hitting the net illuminated the gloomy depths of the sea as if it were day.

The light lasted for three seconds.

Inside the command cabin, everyone’s shared vision was filled with a blinding white light.

After three seconds, the light faded.

Outside the opening, the red cloud formed by the hundreds of gathered Multi-Armed Race Warriors had collapsed.

Grash had been preparing to lead his last Personal Guard unit to charge the main exit, but the intense light made him halt.

When he looked toward the opening again, he saw his people falling in droves like snowflakes, writhing in agony on the coral reef.

Their cheers had turned to wails; their victorious breakout had become a catastrophic rout.

He stood frozen in place, his battle-ax slipping from his tentacles and clattering onto the coral.

Korsh, who had been pushed toward the opening by Grash, hadn’t left immediately. Instead, he had stopped a short distance away to organize the troops.

He too had seen the flash of light.

Then, he saw his cheering comrades before him, their limbs carbonizing in a wash of white light as they screamed and plummeted, piling up below into a small mountain of despair.

He reached out a tentacle, trying to grab something, but caught only the cold seawater.

In the Hive Matrix, the public channel was silent.

Sea Wolf’s mouth hung open. He stared at the fluctuating red mist on the tactical map, unable to say a word.

Velin was the first to speak.

"Leviathan Two and Leviathan Three, you may now enter the field."
