Lord: Starting with Biological Modification
Chapter 280 - 275: A Cornered Beast Still FightsChapter 280: Chapter 275: A Cornered Beast Still Fights
[Eight-Arm Strike]!
This was his signature killing move. Countless opponents had been dismembered in its dazzling flurry of blades.
The blades churned the water into a deadly vortex, cutting off all of Ola’s escape routes.
"CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!"
The piercing sound of metal on metal was distorted into a series of muffled thuds in the water.
Ola blocked almost instinctively with his battle axe and arm shield, but the assault was simply too dense.
Bone blades struck the Dwarf’s heavy armor, leaving behind a spray of fine scratches.
Ola felt immense force transferring through his weapon and shield, making his arms go numb.
Beneath his feet, the coral reef cracked and crumbled as he was forced back step by step by the torrential assault.
’This Octopus General is definitely stronger than I am!’
Ola knew perfectly well that if it weren’t for his suit of "Bulwark" full-plate armor, he would have already been sliced into countless, uniformly sized chunks of meat.
"Is that all you’ve got, you mongrel dwarf!"
Grash’s roar sounded muffled and crazed in the water.
From the corner of his eye, he glanced at the battlefield. Those tin cans were coldly reaping the lives of his kinsmen.
Korsh led the last of the Personal Guard in a charge, only to crash into a steel wall of shields and be swallowed up in an instant.
’It’s over.’
The thought echoed repeatedly in Grash’s mind.
Shame, rage, and despair, like the venom of a deep-sea jellyfish, corroded his sanity.
Lord Unas’s command, the clan’s honor... everything would be crushed to dust here.
’No! Absolutely not!’
Ola noticed a disruption in his opponent’s attack rhythm—proof of a wavering mind.
He stared at Grash, at his eight arms that seemed to offer no opening.
’Even the fastest blades are controlled by a single mind.’
Ola gave up the futile attempt to block every attack. He focused all his attention on the joints where his opponent’s arms connected to its torso.
He discovered that in order to coordinate the eight-armed assault, Grash’s torso had an extremely subtle, rhythmic twist.
’An opening!’
He stopped blocking passively. Ducking his head, he tucked his entire body behind his shield and, using his short stature to his "advantage," charged Grash like a cannonball.
The shield took two heavy blows, the force of the impact splitting the skin of his hands.
[Shield Bash]!
"THUD!"
With a heavy sound of impact, Ola slammed solidly into his opponent, but his charge didn’t stop until he crashed into the coral.
He lifted his head. His beard floated in the water, and his clear eyes—a trait inherited from his human mother—now burned with a bestial light.
Seizing the moment while Grash was stunned, he willingly dropped his shield, gripped his battle axe with both hands, and instead of retreating, took a step forward.
He was betting on the quality of his armor!
"PFFT! PFFT!"
Two bone blades tore through the gaps in his shoulder pauldrons, releasing two strings of bubbles and blood beads.
Excruciating pain shot through him, but Ola didn’t even grunt.
He used this brief opening, bought by weathering the blow, to channel all his strength into his battle axe.
[Reckoning]!
The battle axe didn’t strike at any of the bone blades. Instead, from a tricky, upward angle, it viciously hacked into the joint at the base of one of Grash’s primary attacking arms!
"CRACK!"
The sound of shattering bone followed.
That arm instantly lost all strength and hung limply.
The eight-armed cycle was broken. Grash’s attack rhythm shattered.
"Aaaargh—!"
Grash let out a shriek. He pulled back violently, giving up his suppression of Ola.
He looked at his own limp arm, and in his blood-red, slit-shaped pupils, the last vestiges of his sanity were devoured by madness.
Just as Ola was about to press his advantage, he saw Grash make a move he never could have anticipated.
Grash’s remaining arms turned and plunged into his own chest cavity.
To the sound of churning flesh and blood, he pulled something out from inside his own body.
It was a heart. Black and still beating.
Its surface was covered in veins, and with each contraction, it sent faint ripples through the surrounding water.
Ola froze, a powerful sense of danger making every muscle in his body tense up.
"In Unas’s name, [Black Blood Tide]!"
Grash raised the heart high, his blood-red eyes sweeping over the battlefield, over every one of his dying kinsmen, before finally settling on the massive silhouette of the Leviathan in the distance.
"Drown them!"
He closed his grip, crushing the heart.
A thick, black liquid spewed out from between his fingers.
It was like a living darkness, expanding wildly from Grash at an unnatural speed.
Light, sound, all perception—everything was being devoured by this darkness.
A Knight had just pierced an enemy’s body with his halberd. As he pulled the weapon free, he drew out a trail of blue blood beads.
The next moment, his world vanished, leaving only pure blackness before his eyes.
The Hive Matrix connection was severed.
Inside the command cabin of Leviathan One, the enormous 3D sea chart flickered and went completely dark.
"Alert! Hive Matrix connection severed! Lost contact with all units!"
The Pilot Officer yelled, at a loss.
"What’s going on?"
"Dammit, who turned off the lights!"
The surprised cries of Knights and sailors echoed within their respective submarines.
"Hahahaha! In the Black Tide, we are the masters!"
Grash laughed while coughing up blood.
"Kinsmen! Upward! There’s no net there! Break out!"
The surviving Warriors of the Multi-Armed Race found their bearing in the darkness. Guided by the instincts of a deep-sea race, they began to swim upward, toward the only area of the sea not covered by the giant net.
Just then, Velin stood before the pitch-black command platform, his tone calm and steady.
"The same trick won’t work on me twice."
The darkness could block communications, but it couldn’t block self-awareness.
After all, the Leviathan was actually three High Tier Magical Beasts with independent consciousnesses.
In the darkness, the tentacles of the three Leviathans twitched. Hidden compartments slid open, and on twenty-four of their tendrils, each one held a crystal vial filled with a bright yellow liquid.
"Clear Sea Potion!"
The tentacles shattered the crystal vials.
"CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!"
The potion was released, making contact with the living darkness.
A HSSSSSS sound spread through the silent depths.
The all-consuming darkness began to dissolve in the areas it touched the yellow potion, like a powerful solvent splashed onto a black canvas.
Holes appeared one after another, expanding rapidly and connecting with each other.
The Warriors of the Multi-Armed Race, who were fleeing upward, suddenly realized the darkness was receding.
They instinctively looked back and saw that the "Black Tide" which was supposed to cover their escape was now being corroded, riddled with holes.
Light returned to this patch of the sea.
The Hive Matrix was restored. The Magic Lamps in the command cabin lit up again.
The same scene appeared in everyone’s field of vision.
Dozens of Multi-Armed Race Warriors were suspended in the water, frozen in their upward-swimming posture. With looks of disbelief on their faces, they were completely exposed before the three Leviathans and all the Warriors.
The Sea Wolf holding a harpoon froze for half a second, then burst into manic laughter.
[HAHAHAHA! Surprised, you bastards!]
His voice echoed through the public channel.
[Now, it’s our turn to close the net!]
