The Distant Gates did not leave just because Kai closed his eyes.
Every time the cell got quiet he saw iron again. Vapor. Fog with no terrace lights in it. Scratched name-plates and bottom-five talk and the way Bram’s voice had gone flat on that shelf. Board numbers were oxygen. He understood that now in a way Foundation Forms diagrams could not touch.
Understanding did not stop his body from being a problem.
All through Deneil’s hall he had sat one tier above Lira and Sera and lost a private war to issued trousers. The System had stirred then too — not with a full screen of commands, just the familiar heat-edge it always got when Desire climbed. People thought his System only woke for life-or-death. That was wrong.
It woke for lust.
Looking. Wanting. The twitch in his cock when Lira leaned forward on a bench. The stupid, specific hunger when Sera’s posture pulled cloth tight. Claim resonance, analysis thresholds, ugly mid-fight payments — all of it ran on the same engine.
Nothing new had demanded a speech since Dual Claim Stabilized, so he had not been narrating every time his brain went gutter. That did not mean the System had been dead. It meant the mountain had been loud, and he had been busy not dying.
Tonight the mountain was still loud.
His blood was louder.
---
Bram took it about as well as expected.
"You want me," Bram said, slow, "to sleep on Orlen’s floor... so you can sneak two girls from the other branch into *this* cell... in an academy that already looks at your number like a fever."
Kai sat on his bed and tried to look reasonable. He did not succeed.
"One night."
"One night is how people end up in steward reports."
"I’ll owe you."
Bram stared at him, then laughed under his breath, the miserable kind.
"Lucky bastard. Two women. Actual living women. Meanwhile I get blinked at like I’m furniture." He grabbed his blanket. "If a warden catches you, I never knew. If the board tanks you for stupidity, I never knew. If they invent a new punishment for this exact crime, I—"
"Never knew."
"Correct."
Bram muttered all the way to the door.
"Two women. Unbelievable. Dirt margin boy with two women. I hate this mountain."
The door shut.
Kai exhaled and felt the risk settle in his bones. Separate dorms. Evening counts. Stewards who liked write-ups. Rules he still did not fully own. Dangerous. Genuinely dangerous.
He still went to find them.
---
Lira and Sera listened in the shadow near the painted post for a full three seconds before their arms crossed in the same motion, like they had practiced it.
Kai was already on the stone floor.
Not kneeling politely. Prostrate. Forehead near cold rock. Hands closed together in front of him like a man praying to gods that had never once paid rent for him.
"No," Lira said.
"Absolutely not," Sera said.
"Please."
"You saw those gates today," Lira hissed, "and your first idea is a dorm violation?"
"My first idea was survival. My second idea was this."
Sera’s voice stayed dry.
"Your ranking is thin. House notes exist. And you want to smuggle us into the boys’ branch so you can get your cock involved."
Kai nodded into the floor without lifting his head.
"Yes. That is the proposal. I am a simple man in a complicated mountain. I am also begging."
Silence.
He risked one upward glance.
Lira’s face was red and furious and not fully committed to the fury. Sera looked like she was calculating the exact steward angle on the corridor and hating that the calculation included yes.
"You are unbelievable," Lira said.
"I know."
"If we get caught—"
"I know."
Sera uncrossed one arm long enough to pinch the bridge of her nose.
"Ten minutes after count settles. Quiet. If footsteps come, you die first."
Kai’s forehead thunked once against stone in gratitude.
"I accept death first."
"Get up," Lira muttered. "You look like an idiot."
"Your idiot."
"Don’t push it."
---
Cell nine felt smaller with three people and a locked door.
No long speeches. The gates had already used up the day’s honesty. What remained was heat, nerves, and the specific insanity of wanting someone while a mountain full of iron still existed under the same sky.
Kai had Lira first.
She didn’t go soft for him. She never did at the start. Teeth, breath, hands gripping his back like she still resented how much she wanted it. He pushed into her and felt her body take him with a tightness that punched the thought of board numbers clean out of his head for a stretch of pure, animal focus. Sera lay beside them on the narrow mattress, pants open, fingers between her own thighs, eyes half-lidded and watching with that controlled attention she brought to everything — until control started slipping and her breath went uneven.
Goddess of Ass. Still furious. Still here. Still wet for me in a cell we could get ruined for.
Lira came hard around him, face buried in his shoulder to stay quiet, which somehow made it worse and better at once.
Then Sera.
She hated needing. That was written in every line of her. Kai fucked her anyway until the hate broke into raw sound she bit down on, legs locked around him, nails in his skin. Lira stayed close, hand between her own legs, eyes on them, mouth parted, stubborn pleasure she refused to dramatize.
Goddess of Boobs— no. Goddess of Control Losing a Fight. Same difference tonight.
When both of them were shaking, they put him on his back.
Mouth and hands. No ceremony. Lira on one side of his cock, Sera on the other, wet heat and pressure and the filthy rhythm of two women who did not share soft affection with each other and still shared him. They worked his shaft. His balls. The kind of attention that made his spine try to leave his body.
He lasted about as long as a bottom-margin idiot deserved.
When he came it was across their faces — messy, stupid, perfect — stripes of white on lips and cheeks and the angry-beautiful look Lira got when she let him. Sera shut her eyes at the last second and still took it, afterward wiping once with two fingers and staring at him like she was already filing the risk assessment.
Kai collapsed back against the mattress, lungs wrecked, the cell spinning gently.
The System flickered.
Not a full trial screen. Not a penalty hammer. A low, satisfied pulse under his skin, claim marks warm, Desire banked like coal.
[Desire Threshold — Peak Residual]
Dual Claim Resonance: Stable
No new objective at this time.
Note: Host stress + pair bonding under institutional threat increases long-term anchor density.
Then it faded, as if even the System knew better than to start paperwork after a face shot in a contraband bed.
Kai stared at the ceiling stone.
Somewhere south, iron gates sat in a shelf of bad fog. Somewhere above, crest houses slept on better mattresses. Somewhere in a white room that might not have been a room, a pale bastard with a curved smile had asked him if he wanted to change.
Lira wiped her cheek with the back of her hand and muttered something rude. Sera was already listening for footsteps. Both of them were still here. Both of them had climbed for him. Both of them had broken rules for a night in a thin bed under a mountain that erased people by number.
Kai’s mouth moved before he could stop it, barely sound.
"Thanks... you pale bastard. For making me survive long enough to be this stupid."
Lira squinted at him.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Sera’s eyes narrowed.
"That was not nothing."
"I’ll explain when we’re not committing housing crimes."
Outside, Ash Court stayed quiet.
The gates did not move.
And for a few more hours, oxygen was not a board number — it was two women breathing in the dark beside him, sticky, annoyed, alive.
