Mafia King's Contract Breeder

Chapter 68 Like Walking Your Dog?

"So what are you going to do?" I asked, my heart tightening. "Marry a rich heiress?"

That was probably the only way that a man from the slums could become part of the elite. But if that was the case, what did he need me for?

"No," Emmanuel said resolutely. "I do not need a wife, as I told you."

"So what are you going to do? Is it a ’if you told me you’d have to kill me’ situation?"

"Never you mind. That is not for you to worry about, little fox."

Oh, so that was a yes.

Emmanuel smiled slightly and changed the subject. Instead, he began to tell me about the park, leading me through the rose garden, then the cherry tree path, pointing out interesting statues along the way.

It was interesting enough that I momentarily forgot the darker side of his identity and got caught up in the simple joy.

Coming out of the cherry tree path, we emerged onto a wide expanse of grass, only a few people sitting under trees or on picnic blankets dotted through the fields.

With grass under my feet, I finally felt as though I wasn’t trapped in a cage. Even if my ’jailer’ was walking right beside me.

"There’s the lake!" I saw the ripple of water in the distance.

I broke out into a run across the grass without stopping to think about it. I startled a flock of pigeons into the air, who squawked in offense. Laughter bubbled out of my chest as I ran, wind in my hair, nothing but expanses of green meadows in sight.

I doubled over, gasping for breath, as I reached the edge of the lake. My chest felt light, but my stomach twisted slightly.

I steadied myself against a tree, clutching my stomach.

"Ow..."

"Reckless girl."

I straightened up quickly as Emmanuel caught up to me, a dark look on his face, as though he was about to give me a lecture.

"I’m fine," I said quickly, ignoring the twisting feeling in my stomach.

To my surprise, Emmanuel said nothing. Instead, he put a hand over my abdomen and stroked gentle circles, the warmth from his palm soothing the pain.

"It’s better," I said, embarrassed, pulling away and wandering along the lakeside.

When he drew my attention to the fact that I was carrying his child through such uncharacteristic gentleness, I just couldn’t cope with it. It felt like it was meant for someone else. I didn’t deserve it. I couldn’t believe in it.

I had to change the subject to something else, anything else.

"I just...Chloe and I always used to race each other when we saw a big patch of grass." I spread my arms. "Everything in East Windlem is is cramped. Such a big field just makes you want to run, don’t you think?"

I smiled, but the thought of my sister made my mood dip. It would be such a long time until I could see her again.

Emmanuel gained a pinched look on his face.

"Fine. You may call her. But make sure that you keep to your cover story about being a nanny for a rich family. Do not mention your location, and definitely do not mention that you are pregnant."

A huge smile lit up my face.

"I can keep a secret!" I promised.

On a whim, I leaned up and hooked my arms around Emmanuel’s neck.

"You’ve been awfully nice to me today."

He pulled me in closer by my waist until we were pressed flush together from chest to thigh.

"When have I ever not been nice to you?"

"I can think of a few occasions," I said.

"And what did you do on those occasions...?" Emmanuel tilted his head, arching one brow.

I opened my mouth. I tried to think of any time he had threatened me or been cruel without being provoked. I came up short.

I giggled nervously.

Okay, in my defense, Emmanuel Sagres’s entire person was just very triggering.

"...Is this a date?" I said instead, biting my lip.

It felt that way. I was getting Emmanuel Sagres, the charming version.

"I don’t do dates."

He took a step forward, his thigh sliding between my legs. My back pressed against the tree behind me.

"So what is this?" My breath stuttered.

"Maintenance," he said coolly.

"What?"

"Maintenance of my property."

My mouth dropped open indignantly.

"Like walking your dog?"

Emmanuel’s lip twitched slightly.

"An apt comparison, yes."

"I’m not a—"

"You’re the kind of pet with too much energy, that destroys the furniture if you don’t get enough exercise."

"Oh, fuck you—" I snapped back. He was the worst, honestly.

I thought, for a second there, maybe he liked me. Haha, silly me.

"Mmf—"

Emmanuel’s lips captured mine in a kiss.

And I wondered if he had gotten practice since the last time I kissed him, because now he was utterly confident. His tongue slipped between my lips and tangled with mine, making my head spin. A rush of moisture between my legs turned my panties wet.

"What was that?"

"Fuck you..." I repeated, so weakly that I would be ashamed of it if I wasn’t so turned on.

"Is that an invitation?"

A hand stroked up the inside of my thigh, under my skirt. He plucked the elastic on the side of my panties lightly.

I tore my gaze away from Emmanuel’s arrogant, knowing smirk with great difficulty.

The truth was, my body was beginning to show the first signs of pregnancy lately. My breasts were a little sore, feeling heavy and trapped within my lace bra.

My pussy felt sensitive to the slightest stimulation. Even the lingering touch on the edge of my panties made me press my legs together, fighting the desperate craving to feel that touch a little higher up.

I woke up wet in the morning. I touched myself alone in my bed before I got up, but I couldn’t make myself come. It just didn’t feel quite right.
