If I did not become an Adamantium Titan, then I think I would not be able to fully understand what happened next, as the range of the devastation had reached the levels of Sovereign, and my Arcanist soul would have been much too small to handle something of this scale.
I felt a brief resistance before the impact as space folded over the arm of the demon, but we were too heavy and too fast, and something about the Celestial nature of the Caelith tore any resistance the demon could conjure, and then the impact.
There could have been a sound, but I could not hear it since it happened on a pitch that fried something in my body and soul before I healed from this damage, and perhaps it was a good thing that I did not hear that sound.
So, the impact became the loudest thing I never heard.
The Caelith’s tip struck the Pale Matron’s arm at an angle, and drove it down into the earth, and the ground could not hold either, as it broke; no, this term was still too small, the world shattered around the impact.
The Pale Matron’s limb, a mountain of pale flesh and impossible density, buckled where the Caelith struck it. The impact cratered its surface, sending shockwaves through its structure, and for one terrible, beautiful moment, I saw it fracture. Cracks spread across the pale skin, dark fluid weeping from the wounds, and the arm shuddered as the force of a falling star was transferred into its mass.
There was a shockwave of displaced earth, torn stone, and white fire that bloomed out from the strike in a dome that raced across the ruined earth, and the land broke under it, hundreds of miles of it, the crust failing in a ring that widened faster than sound, canyons opening, mountains flattening, and rivers vanishing.
Even though I did not want this, I knew people died. This location was far from major cities, but there were still people here; however, what perished even more were the demons.
They died in numbers I have no word for. The tide that had erupted to follow the arm was in the millions, and when I slammed into the arm, the shockwave took all of it at once, a ring of annihilation hundreds of miles wide, sweeping outward from the impact, and every demon it touched simply ceased, crushed and burned and scattered in the same instant.
The arm was screaming, and too much was happening at the same time for me to hold in my head, but I knew that an intense vibration was traveling from the tip of the Caelith to the apex, and when it reached me, I would know if my body was durable enough to survive this impact, but then my entire body lit up from within, as a flood of demonic essence poured into me.
I had never felt anything like this, as essence poured into my body seemingly from everywhere at the same time. Each Gate required far more essence than the last, not only in quality, but in quantity, and I did not know how many demons were erased by this impact, but they had to be in the millions.
The volume of it nearly took my soul apart, and it would have, if not for Mortal Shell that binds my soul and flesh as one, and so my soul could borrow the unbreaking nature of my flesh to keep itself in one piece.
It was not that it hurt, no, far from it. What I experienced was pleasure beyond meaning that would have driven me mad at best or broken me to a thing of carnage whose only purpose was to kill more and more demons to pursue this high.
The Demon Slayer Title was not an entirely good thing; if my mind was weak, I don’t think I would be able to maintain myself. Still, I could see the reason for my near madness.
[ Stored Essence: 0 → 912,870 / 2,000,000 ]
In an instant, I was almost halfway done with the sixth earth gate, and the vibration from the tip of the caelith had almost reached the apex, when the pyramid... exploded.
I recalled that the Caelith was no longer whole; it had been split into ten pieces, and this one had suffered the degradation of millennia of tampering from the Sovereign of the Stars, and the ancient stone, already weakened by re-entry, shattered when the vibration from the impact crossed a certain threshold.
All thirty kilometers of celestial stone came apart in a cascade of burning fragments, an avalanche of fire and debris that rained down across the battlefield for miles, and the Pale Matron’s arm was almost torn in two, and her wail of anguish took on a new note.
I was thrown clear of the impact, my body tumbling through the fire and debris, my threads snapping one by one as the Caelith disintegrated around me. I was two hundred feet of adamantine flesh, wrapped in lightning, and I was a leaf in a hurricane.
I hit the ground hard. The earth cratered beneath me, and I rolled, my massive body carving a trench through the burned soil for miles. I came to rest on my back, staring up at the sky, at the burning fragments of the Caelith still falling around me like a rain of dying stars.
I pushed myself up. My body ached, but it was the ache of exertion, not of injury. The Law of Flesh had held. Adamantium Titan had held. I was bruised, battered, and bleeding silver, but I was not broken.
Space shivered, and the cry of something vast swept across the earth that eclipsed the cries of the Pale Matron, and something amazing began to happen.
The debris of the Caelith that was spread for miles began to come together, as if there was a gigantic magnet pulling every piece of the Caelith to one central core.
The massive pyramid that had been shattered into pieces began to reassemble itself as if time was racing backwards, and in the center of the reassembling pyramid, which was being sealed with celestial stone, was the broken arm of the Pale Matron.
Her cries grew shrill, and she began to shriek in a language older than what my knowledge of demonology could grasp. The sound of it almost made me want to drive spikes into my ears, and my eyes widened in realization of what was happening as several notifications slammed into my soul with such force that I flinched.
