My consciousness entered the space below my Anima Depth, and I appeared in the room filled with broken lightning shards. I immediately saw that there was something different about this consciousness body I was wearing, as it was surrounded by multiple blue wisps that danced around me, as if I were the sun surrounded by planets.
I did not have to investigate to understand that all of these were the truths I had acquired about Stillness, and as I got closer to the first shards, the wisps became more excited, and they began to gather around my right hand.
Staring at them for a moment, I reached towards the shard of Stillness, and the blue wisps shot out of my hand and entered the shard, and the frozen lightning began to slowly move, as it uncoiled and stretched itself before also reaching for me.
The first time I touched it, it had been an object, indifferent and cold, without Arcanist Authority that aided me to glimpse its purpose; this shard would remain like this inside of me. Now as we reached towards each other, I gasped as an instant connection was created between me and the shard, and I understood, in the moment of contact, that this had never been a reward waiting to be collected, but a test, and if I had failed to understand the core of what this shard was, I would never claim its power.
It was many things and one thing at the same time, space, pressure,
"I know what you are," I whispered, and the shard made a sound of what I could only describe as excitement as it began to pour into my consciousness, and this time I could not help the gasp of shock that erupted out of my chest.
∞
I should have remembered what happened on the Caelith when I gained Adamantite flesh. There had been an explosion of force and radiance that could push a thirty-kilometer structure back to the planet.
Although in retrospect, I had believed that this happened due to becoming an Adamantium Titan, that was not the entire picture, because a Law binding itself to the body of a mage was not a simple affair... it was violent, as if I was imposing my Will on existence and telling it that this Law would become a part of its architecture, and if it did not like it, then I do not care.
The consciousness body that claimed the shard glowed a blinding blue before it exploded, spilling that blue across my soul, and I barely had half a second to understand what was happening when my entire skeleton began to glow blue, followed by my channels and soon my flesh, and I opened my mouth in a silent scream as a blue glow erupted from my eyes and mouth.
∞
The sound that was coming out of my mouth was like a thin droning sound that kept growing higher in pitch as the blue glow from my body was becoming brighter, and then my feet began to leave the ground as the entire room began to glow white, as the inscriptions on the walls were burning.
These Inscriptions were etched by a Sovereign, and they were meant to last for a very long time, but I was becoming a star, and the room could no longer contain me.
The Inscription slowly vanished as the room around me began to melt, and in the distance, I could feel the awareness of the demon locked onto me, before it just vanished as if its consciousness had been burned to ash from just looking at me, and the scream of pain that followed shortly after was the only evidence I needed.
"Oh shit... this thing is about to be loud, isn’t it?"
Fuck... I am a master of underselling my growth.
∞
The blue glow that was emerging all over my body suddenly converged in my chest, and for one moment, I was hanging in the air, my chest glowing as bright as a star and my body slowly rotated until my chest was facing the sky and I was lying flat in midair... It was as if my body was following the rotation of the planet and I had just synchronized with something far above me.
It was a very weird sensation, and I oddly found it thrilling, but a bit frightening because it made me feel like a cog in a machine and reminded me of the mysterious machine in the darkness that ground up my soul and spit it out in the past.
The blue glow compacted once again before suddenly bursting out of my chest, and I barely had time to see that this was the frozen bolt of lightning shard inside the depths of my soul before it went up through the melting ceiling, and it did not stop.
Thirty metres of layered and warded Celestial steel above me. Plating that may have held out the void for an age could as well be made from butter, as the lightning went through it without a single instant of resistance, and then the deck above that, and the deck above that, and the deck above that.
It came out of the crown of the fortress into the open sky, and I had been able to follow it all this while as it punched upwards, but then I could no longer touch it.
∞
When the shard of lightning was inside of me, it was contained within my body, and now that I understood it, this shard was reaching towards the heavens and the earth as a statement... a completed, unarguable fact about the nature of lightning.
And it did not travel outward so much as become true everywhere at once, and every single thing in the world that had ever held an opinion about lightning heard it in the same instant and agreed.
"Crack... Boom!"
The lightning shook the sky as it fell into the first cloud that was hovering above the facility like a spark falling into dry grass.
This was a storm bank two miles above the fortress, drawn by the apocalyptic war being raged across the continent, and as the lightning shard fell into it, the entirety of the storm cloud lit up, glowing with a blue that was unnatural, and it stayed lit for a very long time... and then it passed the statement on.
The storm cloud beside it lit up, and then the one beside that one, and on and on until the whole ceiling of the sky in that quarter of the world began to glow blue, and I felt the statement that I had just released into the world accelerate away from me at a speed that had nothing to do with distance, because it was not crossing any distance. It was simply becoming true in each new place, one place after another, as fast as the world could be told.
The lightning does not travel. It arrives.
Ten miles...
Fifty...
Two hundred...
Every cloud from the fortress to the horizon lit from within and held, and the sky over Aelmar stopped being a sky and became a single continuous sheet of blue light.
And it kept going.
