-------------------------------------------------

For several long minutes...

No one moved. No one spoke.

"...."

"...."

"...."

The battlefield, which had echoed with screams, clashing steel, and thunderous roars for one hundred and one relentless days, had fallen into a silence so profound that the sound of the rain striking the earth could be heard clearly.

Pushpasura’s lifeless body remained where it had fallen.

Split cleanly into two equal halves.

The blood that had poured from him continued flowing across the battlefield, mixing with the rainwater until it spread through the scarred earth like crimson rivers.

Every warrior watched.

Waiting.

No one knew whether this was truly the end.

After all...

They had seen Pushpasura regenerate from wounds that should have killed him countless times.

Some Rakshasas still waited with desperate hope.

Perhaps...

His body would heal once again.

Perhaps this was only another illusion.

Perhaps their king would rise.

But... Nothing happened.

Instead...

The battlefield itself began to change.

The first to notice was an allied soldier standing near the crater.

"My Lord..."

he whispered.

"The ground..."

Another soldier looked down.

The cracked, lifeless earth beneath his feet was changing colour.

The blackened soil, scorched by months of war, slowly began turning rich and fertile.

Tiny green shoots emerged from the cracks.

Then another.

And another.

Within moments...

Fresh blades of grass spread across the battlefield with astonishing speed.

The transformation continued.

The countless flowers that had been trampled beneath marching armies began blooming once again.

Wild jasmine appeared.

Blue lilies blossomed beside shattered weapons.

Golden marigolds rose where blood had soaked into the earth.

Even the broken trees standing at the edge of Malikavana Forest slowly awakened.

Their dried branches trembled.

Fresh leaves unfurled one after another.

Vines climbed their trunks.

Flowers bloomed upon branches that had appeared dead only moments before.

It was as though the entire forest had drawn a single deep breath...

And awakened.

The crimson blood flowing from Pushpasura’s body disappeared into the soil.

Not as something poisonous.

But as nourishment.

The land absorbed every drop.

The battlefield that had witnessed nothing but death for over three months suddenly became vibrant with life.

The air itself changed.

The suffocating scent of blood and smoke gradually vanished.

In its place came the fragrance of wet earth...

Fresh grass...

And blooming flowers carried by the rain.

Every person present watched in stunned silence.

Then...

Something even stranger occurred.

Pushpasura’s divided body began sinking into the ground.

Not disappearing.

Taking root.

Thick roots slowly emerged from beneath both halves, burrowing deep into the earth.

The flesh gradually transformed into bark.

The black veins covering his body hardened into rough wood.

Branches sprouted from both halves simultaneously.

Before the eyes of both armies...

The remains of the Rakshasa King transformed.

Two enormous trees rose from the battlefield.

Each grew higher and higher, their trunks twisting toward one another.

Their branches reached across the sky until they finally intertwined, becoming inseparable.

The two trees embraced one another like ancient guardians standing side by side.

Their vast canopy spread across a large portion of the battlefield, casting cool shade over the scarred land.

Bright green leaves shimmered beneath the rain.

Flowers unlike any seen before bloomed across the branches.

The very place where Pushpasura had fallen...

Had become a living monument.

Not to his tyranny.

But to the end of it.

Silence lingered for another heartbeat.

Then...

Someone shouted.

"Victory!"

Another voice followed.

"King Devaratha has won!"

The spell of silence shattered.

The allied soldiers erupted.

"JAI!"

"VICTORY!"

"LONG LIVE KING DEVARATHA!"

The cheers rolled across Malikavana like thunder.

Men embraced one another.

Warriors raised their weapons high into the air.

Some fell to their knees with tears streaming down their faces.

Others laughed freely for the first time in one hundred and one days.

The cries became louder.

"DEVARATHA!"

"DEVARATHA!"

"DEVARATHA!"

The sound echoed through the forest itself.

Standing amidst the celebration...

Lord Hanuman smiled warmly.

His eyes remained upon Devaratha’s transformed appearance.

Nearby...

Lord Parashurama quietly nodded.

Ashwatthama looked toward them.

"So..."

he asked.

"This form..."

"What exactly is it?"

Many nearby soldiers turned toward the two immortals.

Hanuman stepped forward first.

His mighty voice carried across the battlefield.

"The one standing before you... is not merely your king."

"He now bears the mantle of a Guardian."

"He stands in the sacred form of the protector who watches over the innocent, who stands at the boundaries between Dharma and Adharma, and who answers every solemn vow with unwavering justice."

Lord Parashurama continued, his voice calm yet filled with unmistakable respect.

"This form is revered across the southern lands."

"It is the form of a guardian deity who was once born as a mortal, who upheld righteousness throughout his life, and who ascended through his unwavering devotion to protecting others."

His eyes rested upon Devaratha.

"The form you witness... is Sangili Karuppan."

The name echoed across the battlefield.

For a brief moment...

The soldiers repeated it quietly among themselves.

"Sangili... Karuppan..."

Then someone suddenly raised his sword.

"HAIL SANGILI KARUPPAN!"

Another immediately followed.

"HAIL THE GUARDIAN!"

Soon...

The entire allied army thundered with one voice.

"HAIL SANGILI KARUPPAN!"

"HAIL SANGILI KARUPPAN!"

"HAIL SANGILI KARUPPAN!"

The chant grew louder and louder.

Thousands of warriors struck their shields.

The mountains echoed with the name.

The forest carried it into the distance.

Even the rain seemed lighter.

Standing amidst the cheers...

Devaratha remained silent.

The chains around his body gave one final gentle metallic echo.

KLANG...

He looked across the battlefield that had finally returned to life.

The flowers. The trees.

The soldiers who had survived.

The people he had sworn to protect.

A faint smile appeared beneath his thick moustache.

Not the smile of a king celebrating victory.

But the quiet satisfaction of a guardian...

Who had fulfilled the promise bound within every chain he carried.

The Rakshasa army stood motionless.

Only moments ago, their war cries had shaken the skies.

Now...

Not a single voice could be heard.

Every pair of crimson eyes remained fixed upon the battlefield where Pushpasura had fallen.

Their king...

The being they had believed could never die...

Lay no more.

The rain continued to fall over the battlefield, washing away the blood that had soaked the earth during the long war.

The two intertwined trees that had grown from Pushpasura’s remains stood silently behind Devaratha,

Their emerald leaves swaying gently in the cold wind as though nature itself had accepted the end of the Rakshasa King.

Standing before them...

Devaratha slowly lifted his gaze.

He did not raise his weapon.

He did not take another step.

He simply looked toward the countless Rakshasas standing beyond the ring of divine fire.

That single glance...

Was enough.

The moment his emerald eyes fell upon them, the entire Rakshasa army instinctively stiffened.

Many felt their throats go dry.

Several unconsciously tightened their grip around their weapons.

Others lowered their heads altogether, unable to meet the gaze of the guardian who had slain the one they believed invincible.

None of them could erase the image they had witnessed only moments before.

The calmness with which he had dismantled Pushpasura.

The ease with which the Aruval had ended the battle.

The terrifying certainty in every movement.

It was burned into their minds.

A young Rakshasa standing near the front slowly whispered,

"...He’s looking at us."

Another swallowed nervously.

"It feels..."

"...as though he’s looking straight through me."

Several warriors instinctively took a step backward.

One more followed.

Then another.

No order had been given.

Yet the entire front line slowly began retreating.

The thought running through every mind was exactly the same.

Run.

Before anyone could act...

Devaratha finally spoke.

His voice carried effortlessly across the battlefield.

It wasn’t loud because he shouted.

It was loud because every word carried an undeniable authority.

"Rakshasas."

The single word stopped every movement.

No one turned away.

No one attempted to flee.

They simply listened.

Devaratha slowly rested the Aruval upon his shoulder while the spear remained planted beside him.

The chains around his body gave a calm metallic echo.

KLANG...

His emerald eyes swept across the entire Rakshasa army.

"I did not come here... to slaughter every one of you."

The Rakshasas looked at him in stunned silence.

"I came... to end a war."

His deep voice remained steady.

"The one who brought you here... has already fallen."

He slowly turned his head toward the two enormous trees growing where Pushpasura had breathed his last.

"Your king has met the fate written for him."

"The war he declared... ends with him."

The rain flowed steadily across the battlefield.

No one interrupted him.

Devaratha looked back toward the Rakshasa army.

"So hear my judgment."

His voice grew firmer.

"Lay down your weapons."

"Abandon this battlefield."

"Return to wherever you came from."

"And never again raise your hands against the innocent people of this land."

He paused for a moment before continuing.

"If you surrender now... No blade shall pursue your backs."

"No arrow shall be loosed after those who abandon this war."

"I grant every Rakshasa standing before me this one chance."

"Leave."

"And do not return."

The words echoed across Malikavana.

Silence followed.

"...."

"...."

"...."

The Rakshasas simply stared.

Many had expected vengeance.

Many believed the humans would seek revenge for the villages that had burned...

For the innocents who had died...

For one hundred days of endless suffering.

Instead...

The victor was offering them life.

A grizzled Rakshasa veteran slowly looked toward the trees that had grown from Pushpasura’s body.

Then toward Devaratha.

His shoulders gradually relaxed.

The axe slipped from his grasp.

Clang...

The sound echoed clearly.

He slowly knelt.

"I..."

His voice trembled.

"...surrender."

Another Rakshasa looked around.

Seeing no anger in Devaratha’s eyes...

He quietly dropped his spear.

Then another.

A sword struck the ground.

A shield followed.

Soon...

The metallic sounds began echoing across the battlefield one after another.

Clang...

Clang...

Clang...

Axes. Spears. Swords. Maces.

Thousands of weapons struck the earth.

The Rakshasas slowly lowered themselves to one knee.

Some bowed their heads.

Others simply stood silently with empty hands raised.

Within only a few moments...

The once terrifying army had completely surrendered.

A long sigh escaped countless throats simultaneously.

Relief. Pure relief.

Many had truly believed they would die where they stood.

Instead...

They had been allowed to leave.

Across the battlefield...

The allied soldiers watched in astonishment.

Some had expected Devaratha to order the complete destruction of the Rakshasa army.

Others had been ready to charge.

Instead...

Their king had ended the war without another drop of unnecessary blood.

Bhishma slowly smiled.

Lord Hanuman folded his hands with quiet approval.

Lord Parashurama nodded almost imperceptibly.

Karna’s lips curved into a faint smile.

Ashwatthama looked at the surrendering Rakshasas before quietly saying,

"A victory without needless slaughter... is the greatest victory a king can achieve."

The rain continued falling.

The battlefield that had witnessed one hundred and one days of relentless bloodshed finally grew quiet.

Weapons lay abandoned upon the earth.

The cries of war had vanished.

Only the sound of rain remained.

For the first time since Pushpasura had crossed into Malikavana...

Peace had returned.
