Devara slowly opened the door and stepped into the chamber.

Gandhari was resting comfortably on the bed, with a few attendants standing nearby.

The moment she noticed him, she tried to sit up.

"Don’t."

Devara immediately walked toward her and gently placed both hands on her shoulders, stopping her before she could put any strain on herself.

"You don’t have to get up for me,"

he said with a warm smile.

"From now on, you are not allowed to strain yourself unnecessarily."

Gandhari looked at him with a small smile.

"I am pregnant, Devara, not made of glass."

"I know."

He bent down and pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead.

"But you are carrying my child, and that means I’m going to worry about you whether you like it or not."

Gandhari’s cheeks immediately gained a faint blush.

Devara remained beside her, looking into her beautiful eyes with a happiness that was still difficult for him to hide.

"You have no idea how happy you have made me."

Gandhari’s expression softened.

"Really?"

Devara nodded.

"I don’t even know what I can do to repay you for giving me this happiness. After everything that happened during the war, I never expected that I would return home and receive news like this."

He gently took her hand.

"I’ve been given kingdoms, victories, divine blessings and things I never thought I would possess. But somehow, hearing that you are carrying our child feels more precious than all of them."

Gandhari’s cheeks became even redder.

She looked away for a moment, clearly embarrassed by the sudden affection.

Then, almost as if she wanted to hide her embarrassment, she lightly punched him on the chest.

Devara blinked.

"What was that for?"

Gandhari looked back at him.

"You said you don’t know what you need to do to make it up to me."

"Yes."

She tilted her head slightly.

"Then will you do whatever I ask you to do?"

Devara’s eyebrows rose.

There was something about the way she asked that made him immediately suspicious, but at the same time, he couldn’t help becoming curious.

"Whatever you ask?"

Gandhari nodded.

"Whatever."

Devara looked at her for a moment before smiling.

"If that is what you want, then yes."

He squeezed her hand gently.

"Whatever you ask of me, I will do it."

Gandhari’s smile slowly widened.

"Then remember that promise."

Devara looked at her with growing curiosity.

"I will."

Gandhari leaned back against the pillows, still wearing that mysterious little smile.

Devara stared at her.

For some reason, he suddenly had the feeling that he had just walked willingly into a trap.

But seeing the happiness on his wife’s face, he decided that whatever she was planning, he would deal with it when the time came.

Gandhari remained quiet for a few moments, apparently thinking carefully about what she wanted before finally looking back at Devara.

"Since you said you would do whatever I asked..."

Devara immediately became attentive.

"Yes?"

Gandhari began listing her requests.

She wanted certain fruits brought from the royal gardens.

Then she remembered that she had been craving a particular sweet that was usually prepared in the southern part of the kingdom.

She wanted to spend more time walking through the palace gardens in the evenings, but only when Devara was free enough to accompany her.

She also wanted him to personally bring her food whenever she suddenly felt hungry instead of sending a servant.

At one point, she even asked him to sit beside her and tell her stories whenever she couldn’t sleep.

Devara listened to every request without interrupting.

The more she spoke, the more confused his expression became.

Eventually, Gandhari stopped.

"What?"

Devara stared at her.

"That’s all?"

Gandhari blinked.

"What do you mean, that’s all?"

"I don’t know. I was expecting something..."

He struggled to find the right word.

"...bigger."

Gandhari raised an eyebrow.

"Why would I ask for something extravagant?"

"I don’t know. You told me you would make me do whatever you wanted."

"And?"

Devara looked at her.

"You asked me to bring you fruit."

Gandhari nodded her head in a thoughtful expression.

"And sweets."

Another nod.

"And walk with you."

"Yes."

"And tell you stories when you can’t sleep."

Devara remained silent for a moment.

Then he looked at her with genuine confusion.

"I thought you were going to ask me to build another palace or give you some priceless treasure."

Gandhari couldn’t hold back her laughter.

"Why would I want another palace when I already have one?"

Devara opened his mouth, but before he could answer, Gandhari leaned forward and gently poked him on the nose.

"You’re thinking too much."

Devara blinked.

Gandhari smiled.

"I don’t need expensive gifts from you. I just want you to spend time with me, especially now. That’s more than enough."

The words made Devara’s expression soften.

He reached out and gently held her hand.

"Then I’ll do all of it."

"You promised."

"I know."

Gandhari smiled hearing his words.

"Good."

She then settled back against the pillows and closed her eyes.

"Now go."

Devara looked at her.

"Go?"

"I need to rest."

"But I just came in."

"And you have already spent enough time disturbing me."

"I was talking to you."

"Exactly."

Devara stared at her in disbelief.

Gandhari opened one eye and smiled.

"Go. I’ll call you if I need anything."

Devara sighed, but the smile on his face remained.

"Fine. Rest properly."

He leaned down and gently kissed her forehead once more before stepping away from the bed.

As he reached the door, he glanced back.

Gandhari was already settling herself comfortably, a faint smile still on her lips.

Devara shook his head.

He had faced armies, Rakshasas and gods without hesitation.

Yet somehow, a pregnant Gandhari asking for fruits and sweets had managed to leave him more confused than any battlefield ever had.

Meanwhile, the guard Devara had sent to spread the good news continued through the palace, carrying the announcement from one chamber to another.

Eventually, he reached the chambers where Devara’s wives and his Apsara sisters, Varga, Saurabheyi, Samichi, Vudvuda and Lata, were gathered together.

The women had been enjoying a relaxed conversation, discussing everything from the recent celebrations after the war to the events that had taken place during Devara’s absence.

Their conversation came to an immediate stop when the guard entered and bowed before them.

"Devi, I have come with news from Maharaja Devara."

The women turned toward him with curiosity.

"What news?"

Vudvuda asked.

The guard’s face immediately broke into a smile.

"Queen Gandhari is with child. Maharaja has ordered that the entire kingdom be informed, and celebrations are already being arranged throughout Trivenivrata."

For a moment, there was silence.

Then all five women reacted at once.

"Really?"

"Gandhari is pregnant?"

"That is wonderful!"

Lata’s face immediately lit up, while Varga clasped her hands together happily.

"After everything that happened during the war, this is exactly the kind of news we needed," Saurabheyi said, her expression brightening.

Samichi smiled warmly.

"We must go and see her."

Vudvuda was already thinking ahead.

"We cannot go empty-handed."

Lata nodded immediately.

"Of course not. She has given us such wonderful news. We need to take something for her."

The guard stood quietly as the women began discussing what they should prepare.

"Sweet dishes,"

Varga suggested.

"Several kinds,"

Vudvuda added.

"And make sure they are freshly prepared."

Samichi turned toward one of the maids standing nearby.

"Go to the kitchens and tell them to prepare sweets immediately. Use the finest ingredients available. We are taking them to Gandhari."

The maid bowed.

"Yes, Devi."

She hurried away.

Another maid was called.

"Prepare some fresh fruits as well,"

Saurabheyi instructed.

"And make sure everything is arranged properly. We are not sending these through servants. We will take them ourselves."

The women exchanged happy smiles.

There was something deeply joyful about the news.

Gandhari’s pregnancy wasn’t merely the announcement of another royal child.

It meant that after all the death and destruction surrounding the kingdom, a new life was beginning.

Vudvuda looked toward the others.

"I still can’t believe it. We were just talking about Gandhari a few days ago, and now she is going to become a mother."

Lata laughed softly.

"And Devara is going to become a father."

That made all of them laugh.

"I would have liked to see his face when he heard the news if he didn’t knew the news,"

Samichi said with a trilled expression.

Varga smiled showing how happy she was.

"Knowing him, he probably stood there looking as though someone had told him another war was coming."

The guard couldn’t help smiling at that.

"Devi, if I may..."

All five women looked at him.

"He did look rather stunned."

Their laughter immediately filled the chamber.

Soon, the maids returned with the first of the sweets, and the women began personally choosing what they wanted to take to Gandhari.

The palace, which had only recently been filled with the tension of war and mourning, was slowly beginning to feel alive again.

And before long, Gandhari’s chamber would be filled with more visitors than she had probably expected, all carrying sweets, gifts and enough affection to make sure the queen understood just how happy everyone was for her.
