As Bea screamed in rage, that cold, calculating part of her undead existence spliced apart the steps that allowed her to sever Fossil’s shin. Gustov made a choice. The tension in all existence around the roles people play merged, bringing the necromancer closure to their potential. That act lessened the weight of the control in the dungeon, only perceptible because she was under that constant strain, even existing here as a free spirit.
Even without the lower half of his right foot, Fossil was moving around nimblely, albeit with a limp. With a death groan, Bea threw herself back into a battle to save a distracted Gustov. Eyes off of her and on the bone giant, human. Mayhaps the damage to Savior White’s work was more extensive than she thought, and he was shocked? That idea spurred her deeper into analysis of exactly what had occurred before her strike, even as she moved to counter Fossil’s attacks.
Dodge left. The shift in necromantic forces hadn’t been enough to cause such a change. [Dig] under the broken foot delayed Fossil longer. It was the skill Gustov used. It wasn’t [Manipulate Dead] as that skill directly scattered dead matter, or in the Savior’s hands, artistically and materially improved people. [Renew Spirit] would have been a direct gain. No, whatever skill this was, it shaped the necromantic environment, strengthening her and weakening her opponent impressively at the first level. Her presence dug into Fossil’s, and that is when the break happened.
Tess’s odd armor creaked to a halt, lights flashing and dimming with a whine.
Pivot and tackle before the woman turned into paste. This was a great resource for the Lady; one that was already bought and paid for. Hauling the girl out of the way, the impact was of note in calculations. Every time she chipped off some of Fossil’s bones that was where their opposing presences ground against each other.
What was needed was more of a metaphysical strike than a physical one. But at what cost? Lady white had added much to her system, and that energy was to be cherished. To do this, she would need to expend a portion of it.
Tess wiggled in what was once armor and now a body-shaped steel cage.
If this isn’t done now, the losses would be too much. Bea turned to face the giant grinning skull. You ready for this, Little One? It asked with amusement.
For my lady, I’m ready for anything. She projected on a frequency only the two of them could hear.
While not the speed it took out their guide or her, Fossil accelerated toward Tess like a rock slide, knocking Gustov and Grohl out of the way with the force of launching himself for the kill.
Bea jumped to meet him head-on. This time, she committed her energy to expand against Old Bones' energy and push deeper, burning up half of what Lady White had dedicated to her. Rather than a punch, as her arm and hand already had microfractures from earlier strikes. She met Fossil, her head into his. Crack! The wound she took widened a little on impact, but her energy won, and the giant skull shattered, turning Fossil’s body limp. It still had enough forward momentum that it crashed down over Tess, but Bea did her best to shield one of House White’s talents.
Even defeated, body destroyed. Bea could feel the dungeon whisking its guardian’s spirit away. Respect, young one, Respect. Fossil whispered to her as it disappeared.
Tess seemed alive, and that was good enough.
