The kiss was different this time.
His lips crashed into mine with a sudden, ravenous force that caused my knees to give out instantly. Blinding sparks exploded behind my closed eyelids, bright and disorienting. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. There was only his taste—sharp, dark, and utterly intoxicating. His scent enveloped me from every direction, and his furnace-like heat scorched me from the inside out, turning my mind into molten wax.
I tried to push him away, planting my fists firmly against his broad chest and pressing with all the strength I had left. But the resistance only made him wrap his arms around me tighter. One heavy arm clamped around my waist while his free hand buried deep into my hair, tilting my head back to deepen the kiss. He locked me flush against his body, refusing to let me break free. The sheer dominance of his grip, the absolute control he exerted over me, sent a tremor of panic through my chest.
Then, the heat wave struck.
It hit me so violently, so unexpectedly, it felt as though someone had poured scalding water directly into my veins. A low moan escaped my throat and dissolved right against his lips. I thrashed weakly in his embrace as an unbearable surge of fever swept through my entire body, spreading from my core to the very tips of my fingers.
My legs trembled so hard I would have collapsed onto the pavement had he not been anchoring me. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes at how easily my body betrayed me—how instinctively it responded to his touch without my permission.
"Stop..." I managed to tear my mouth away from his, gasping for air that felt like fire in my lungs. "Please, Magnus..."
He didn’t listen.
Without missing a beat, he scooped me off my feet as easily as if I weighed nothing at all, lifting me up and setting me down onto the hood of his car. The metal felt ice-cold against my thighs, a sharp contrast to the inferno raging beneath my skin.
He stepped between my legs, forcing my knees apart to pull himself flush against me. Before I could process the shift, his lips slammed back onto mine, kissing me as though he intended to drain the last remaining breath from my lungs.
Magnus pressed his entire body into mine harder—possessive, desperate, and unyielding. I could feel every hard line of muscle coiled beneath his clothes, every ragged breath he took. Everything inside me was melting, dissolving into a liquid fire that rushed through my veins.
His hands roamed freely over my body. They slid down my thighs, squeezing so hard I knew bruises would form by morning, then tracked up my waist, sneaking beneath the hem of my jacket and shirt to press his hot palms against my bare skin.
Then, he went up my spine.
He pulled me closer to the edge of the hood, and with every touch, electric currents snapped along my nerve endings.
I arched into his touch, pressing closer despite the alarm bells screaming in my mind that this was wrong—that I was losing control, that I needed to stop him. Yet my body craved his touch, desperately seeking to merge his fire with mine.
I planted my hands against his shoulders, scratching my nails against the fabric of his bomber jacket as I yanked my head to the side, trying to pull away from the overwhelming storm of sensations. But his hold was absolute, making any attempt at resistance useless.
Finally, he pulled back on his own. His chest heaved as he stared down into my eyes with an intensity that made my stomach drop with fear—and something far more dangerous, something I didn’t dare put a name to.
"I want you. So fucking much, Lang. You have no idea."
Without waiting for a response, giving me no time to process his raw admission, he swept me up off the hood and thrust me into the passenger seat, his self-control hanging by a thread.
I leaned back into the leather seat, wrapping my arms tightly around myself as I tried to regain control of my breathing. The heat wave began its slow retreat, leaving behind a hollow weakness, trembling limbs, and a fine sheen of sweat on my skin.
Magnus started the engine and tore into the night without a word. His knuckles turned stark white against the leather steering wheel. The silence between us was heavy, suffocating, and packed with an unspoken tension so sharp it felt like it might snap at any moment.
I desperately wanted to shatter that suffocating silence, to say anything at all. But I stayed quiet, staring out the window at the blurred streetlights flashing past. Tears spilled over my eyelashes and tracked hot down my cheeks—born of humiliation, helplessness, and the sickening reality that he could do whatever he wanted to me, while I had no power to stop him.
I couldn’t even protect myself from my own body.
When we finally pulled up to his high-rise—a towering, shadowy monolith against the night sky—I didn’t wait for the engine to die completely. I threw the passenger door open and scrambled out, nearly tripping over the curb as the pavement tilted beneath my feet.
"You had no right!" I screamed, spinning around to face him. A wave of scalding, acrid rage boiled over inside me. The long ride had dried my tears, leaving behind a bitter fire that thrummed through my chest. "You had no right to do that to me, to take advantage of my weakness—of this goddamn heat! You forced that kiss on me when I couldn’t fight back! It was vile!"
Magnus stepped out of the car, slamming the door shut with a sharp crack that echoed down the empty street. He approached me with slow, deliberate steps, shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his dark jeans. Illuminated by the pale glow of the streetlamps, his silhouette looked massive, lethal, and imposing.
"Vile?" A low, cutting sneer laced his voice. "Lang, that kiss was just the beginning. I’m going to take you completely. Very soon. I promise you."
