Marked by the Four Beast Lords After Transmigration
Chapter 109 :What the Bond Feels LikeThe bath chamber still held the night’s warmth.
Steam rested low over the water, thin enough to leave the stone walls visible and warm enough to soften the air against Nia’s cheeks. Folded towels waited on the bench beside the cup and kettle Shen had carried in from the main chamber.
Kael crossed the room with Nia held against his chest. Shen followed close behind, his tail curled around her calf until Kael stopped beside the pool and the angle made him loosen.
Kael lowered her onto the warmed stone ledge and kept one hand at her back. Shen set the kettle near the bench, knelt, and covered her feet with the warm length of his tail.
Nia looked down at it, then at him. “My feet are not that cold.”
Shen’s thumb moved over her ankle. “They are slow in winter.”
Kael’s mouth brushed the top of her head. “Then we warm them.”
The new bond stirred beneath her heart, carrying the edge of Shen’s pleasure as he touched her. Nia’s face heated before she could stop it.
Shen smiled and lowered his gaze to her ankle.
Kael loosened the tie of her wrap with steady fingers. The cloth slipped from her shoulder, and the marks over Nia’s heart met the bath chamber air. Kael’s tiger lay familiar and dark against her skin. Shen’s snake curved beside it, pale and elegant, no longer a surprise after the morning’s first look but still new enough to make Shen’s hand pause.
Nia reached for him. “Come here.”
Shen came at once.
She guided his hand to the snake mark. He touched it carefully, and the bond answered with a warm pulse that made his breath catch.
“Still beautiful,” she said.
His eyes lifted to hers.
Kael bent and lifted her again.
Heat closed around Nia’s legs when he stepped into the bath. Her body softened as the water rose around her hips and waist. Kael sat on the submerged stone seat and settled her sideways across his lap, one arm beneath her back.
Shen entered after them. Water broke around him in slow rings, and his tail found Nia’s calves beneath the surface.
The bath eased the tenderness she had been trying to ignore. Warmth reached the sore places in her thighs and hips, loosening the quiet ache left from the night before. Nia closed her eyes and leaned into Kael’s chest.
Shen’s hand rested at her knee. “Better?”
“Yes.”
Kael’s palm moved along her back. “Good.”
Nia opened her eyes when the quiet stretched too long. “I am all right.”
“I know,” Shen said. “We will keep the bath easy.”
His hands moved into her damp braids with immediate care, smoothing water through the loosened sections so the weight did not pull at her scalp. Kael held her while Shen worked, one hand steady at her back and the other passing a warm cloth over her shoulder and upper arm.
The chamber settled around the rhythm of water against stone.
Shen’s fingers moved slowly enough that each careful tug sent a tiny spark down Nia’s neck. She let her eyes close until Kael’s mouth touched the side of her throat and her fingers curled against his shoulder.
The bath shifted by degrees.
Kael’s cloth slowed over her skin. Shen’s hands returned to her braids, then his mouth followed, kissing damp hair near his fingers before he leaned closer. Nia’s hand found Shen’s forearm. Her other hand held Kael’s shoulder.
Shen’s eyes lifted to hers, silver and close.
“Gently,” he said.
Kael’s hand spread over her stomach beneath the water. “Yes.”
Nia’s breath caught.
Shen kissed her.
His mouth was careful and not distant at all. Kael held her against his chest while Shen’s tail supported her legs beneath the water. When Nia’s fingers tightened on his arm, Shen drew back just enough to let her breathe.
Kael kissed the back of her shoulder.
Steam gathered around them. The cloth slipped from Kael’s hand and floated against the bath edge. Shen kissed her wrist, then the mark hidden beneath her skin there, while Kael’s mouth stayed near her neck. Their hands followed each change in her breath without making her explain it.
When the sharper heat softened, Nia was tucked sideways against Kael’s chest with one leg resting across Shen’s thigh beneath the water. Shen held her wrist above the surface, thumb moving slowly where he had bitten her.
Kael retrieved the cloth, wrung it out, and laid it warm over her shoulder again.
Afterward, the washing settled into quiet.
Kael cleaned her shoulders and back while Shen finished her hair. Nia leaned into Kael and stopped pretending she was helping. When the water cooled near her knees, Shen moved warmer water around her legs. When she started to lift her arm too high, Kael reached for the cloth first.
By the time Kael carried her out, standing would have been more pride than sense.
Shen waited with a towel. He wrapped it around her shoulders while Kael held her, tucking the edge carefully under her arms. His hands slowed near the marks.
Nia caught his wrist and leaned forward from Kael’s hold to kiss the orchid over Shen’s heart.
Shen went still beneath her mouth.
“It is pretty,” she said.
His mouth curved. “You still think so?”
“Yes. I liked it the first time I saw it.”
Kael’s arm tightened under her knees. “Dry.”
Nia let him carry her back toward the bench while Shen reached for another towel.
Shen pressed water from the ends of her braids while Kael stood in front of her, broad enough to block the cooler draft from the hall. When Nia shifted on the bench, the tenderness in her hips made her pause.
Kael crouched, his hand near her knee. “Sore.”
“A little.”
Shen resumed drying her braids, gentler than before. “Then we should not keep you on the stone too long.”
“I am wrapped in half the bath chamber.”
“The stone is still stone,” he said.
Kael lifted her before she could answer.
The main room greeted them with banked hearth warmth, drying bowls, Shen’s bundles, and the row of cups waiting on the shelf. Kael settled into the cushioned chair near the fire and kept Nia across his lap. Shen draped the damp towels where they could dry, then came back to tuck the fur around Nia’s feet.
“They have warmed,” she said.
“Then I will keep them that way.”
Kael’s hand rested over the towel at her chest. “Good.”
The hearth snapped softly. Outside the door, the mountain carried on with winter work, distant behind stone and cloth. Shen separated the wet strands with careful fingers, working slowly enough that the towel beneath them caught the water before it reached Nia’s shoulder.
“You do not have to finish all of it now,” Nia said.
“I would rather finish. Your braids will dry better if I do.”
Nia’s eyes grew heavy before she meant them to.
Shen noticed when her head tipped against Kael’s shoulder. “Rest a little.”
“I am only closing my eyes.”
Shen kissed her knuckles. “I will wake you before I start the sweet.”
That brought her eyes open again. “You promise?”
“I promise.”
“Then I can rest a little.”
Kael’s mouth brushed her hair. “Good.”
Nia closed her eyes with Kael’s heartbeat steady under her cheek and Shen’s contentment quiet beneath her heart. The bathwater cooled behind them, the hearth kept the room warm, and Shen kept working water from her braids while Kael held her close enough that the cold had nowhere to settle.
