The bed curtains held the heat before they were fully closed.

Kael carried Nia through them with water still cooling on his skin and the dry cloth wrapped around her shoulders. The bedding had already been turned back before they entered the bath. Thick winter furs waited over warmed stones near the foot of the bed, and the first touch of that trapped heat against her legs made her body loosen so quickly a laugh tried to rise out of her.

It came out softer than that, tucked against Kael’s chest while he lowered her to the center of the bed.

Shen followed close behind with dry wraps folded over one arm, his damp hair clinging in pale strands near his cheek. His gaze moved over Nia’s braids, the cloth slipping from her shoulder, Kael’s wet chest, and the blanket caught beneath her knee.

Before he could fix anything, Nia reached for him.

“Come here first.”

Shen paused with one wrap already lifting from his arm. His eyes went to her face.

Kael’s mouth touched the side of her neck. “She said first.”

“I heard.”

“Then listen.”

Nia caught Shen’s jaw in her palm. His skin was warm from the bath, smooth beneath her damp fingers, and his breath changed when her thumb brushed the corner of his mouth.

“Kiss me,” she said.

Shen bent at once.

His mouth met hers with the care he always brought to the first touch, but Nia did not let him stay careful. She slid her fingers into his damp hair and pulled until he had to brace one hand beside her shoulder. The kiss deepened. Shen’s mouth opened over hers, warm with bath steam and berry sweetness, and Nia answered until her chest lifted beneath the loose cloth.

Kael watched them for a breath before he came down behind her.

His body covered her back through the bedding, broad and hot from the bath. One arm slid beneath her waist, drawing her up just enough for him to fit closer. His mouth found the cheek Shen was not kissing, then the line of her jaw. He kissed there slowly, each press of his lips warmer than the last, and when Nia turned her head between them, Kael caught the corner of her mouth.

Neither of them gave her time to decide whose kiss came next. Shen took her mouth again, Kael stole it after him, and Shen kissed the place Kael left wet near her lower lip. Nia turned from one to the other with both hands busy, one buried in Shen’s hair and the other spread over Kael’s chest where his heartbeat pushed hard beneath her palm.

Kael’s hand settled at her hip, heavy enough to make her thighs shift beneath the furs.

Shen felt the movement against the bedding. His kiss slowed, and his fingers slid under the edge of the cloth at her shoulder. He paused when the wrap loosened further, giving her space to hold it closed if she wanted to.

Nia let the cloth slip down.

The air touched her damp skin for one breath before Kael drew the blanket higher around her waist. He did not cover her chest. His hand came there instead, broad palm warm beneath one breast, thumb resting still until she arched softly into him.

Shen looked down, and the heat that entered his face did more to her than praise would have. Nia took his hand from the bedding and placed it against her breast, over Kael’s, their fingers overlapping for a moment before Kael eased back enough to give him room.

Shen’s breath left him slowly. Kael’s thumb moved once, and Shen followed the same path with a lighter touch, learning the shape of her response under his hand.

Nia’s eyes fluttered, and Kael’s mouth stayed against her cheek as if he could feel every change in her breathing.

Shen lowered his head and kissed the curve of her breast where his hand had warmed her. The first kiss was closed, almost reverent. Then his mouth opened, and Nia’s fingers tightened in his hair when his tongue touched her nipple in a slow, wet circle that made her breath catch hard enough for Kael’s arm to tighten around her waist.

Kael’s mouth moved to her shoulder. His teeth found the tender place he had warmed in the bath, catching carefully while Shen drew her nipple into his mouth.

Nia’s back arched into both of them. The sound she made broke against Kael’s cheek because he was close enough to take it.

Shen lifted his head just enough to look at her. “Good?”

Nia touched his face, thumb sliding over his damp lower lip. “Again.”

He obeyed, sucking more firmly this time, and Nia’s hips moved beneath the blanket. Kael caught the movement with one hand at her ass, fingers spreading over the curve and squeezing with slow, possessive pressure that sent heat through her belly. He held her there, heavy and certain, while his mouth worked along her shoulder and up the side of her neck.

Nia’s hand left Shen’s hair and found Kael’s stomach.

His abs tightened beneath her palm. She loved that he could not hide it from her, not from her fingers, not when she dragged them slowly down the hard lines and felt him brace behind her. His breath roughened against her skin.

“You like touching,” he said.

“I told you already.”

“Tell me again.”

Nia turned enough to kiss him, teeth catching his lower lip before she answered. “I like touching you.”

Her other hand slid down Shen’s chest, over the lean planes of his stomach. “And you.”

Shen’s eyes half-closed when her fingertips traced the lines of his abs. He lowered his mouth to her breast again, and the first touch of his tongue made her fingers press harder against him.

Kael’s tail moved beneath the blankets, soft and warm against the back of her thighs. Nia reached for it without looking.

The fur had dried near the base but remained damp at the end, soft beneath her fingers and heavier where water still clung. She stroked through it slowly, rubbing with the grain, then against it just enough to feel Kael’s hand tighten on her ass.

His breath caught against her neck. “Careful.”

Nia smiled against his mouth and kept her touch slow.

Shen’s smooth tail slid over her calf from the other side, controlled and warm, curling near her ankle before gliding up along the outside of her leg. The contrast pulled a sigh from her. Kael’s furred softness filled one hand, while Shen’s sleek tail moved with quiet precision against her skin. She reached down and caught Shen’s tail too, fingers wrapping around the smooth length as it passed her knee.

Shen’s mouth left her breast on a breath that was almost a groan.

Nia looked at him. “There?”

His gaze lifted to hers. “Yes.”

She stroked him again.

Kael’s hand squeezed her ass a little harder, and Nia’s body rolled between them. Shen came up to kiss her, catching the sound she made, his chest pressing to hers. Kael stayed behind her, one hand at her hip and the other sliding over her stomach beneath the blanket.

When his palm moved lower, he paused.

Nia covered his hand with hers and guided him.

Kael’s breath warmed her ear. “Still slow?”

“Slow,” she said, because her body was already full from the bath, from them, from the long festival night beneath the mountain. “But not less.”

His hand moved with the pressure she asked for.

Nia’s head tipped back against his shoulder. Shen kissed her throat, then her cheek, then her mouth again, each kiss following the change in her breathing. His mouth found new places as Kael touched her: the corner of her smile when she tried to steady herself, the hollow beneath her cheekbone, the damp edge of her lower lip, the breast he had left wet and sensitive.

The distant bogaru struck below the mountain, deep enough to tremble through the stone and into the bed. Nia’s hips answered the rhythm before she thought to stop them, and Kael felt it. His mouth pressed to her ear, his hand steadying into the same slow pulse until the drum outside and the heat between them blurred together.

She gripped his forearm. “Don’t stop.”

Shen kissed her before the words were fully gone, and Kael kept touching her.

The room narrowed to breath, bedding, heat, and the slow certainty of their hands. Shen’s tongue traced her nipple again, then his mouth moved lower before returning to kiss her. Kael shifted his grip from her ass to her thigh, lifting her leg slightly over his so his fingers could move with better pressure. Nia stroked both tails until Shen’s control frayed at the edges and Kael’s breathing grew rough against the back of her neck.

She touched them wherever she could reach. Kael’s chest was broad enough to brace her, hot under her palm, the muscles beneath flexing when she dug her nails in lightly. Shen was leaner, smoother, his heartbeat quick under her hand when she pressed there during a kiss. She moved from one to the other as if she could keep them both answering beneath her fingers.

Then Shen caught two of her fingers in his mouth.

Nia froze with her fingers between his lips, and Kael felt the change immediately. His hand stopped against her while Shen’s eyes stayed on hers. Shen sucked gently, tongue sliding between her fingers, warm and deliberate, and the sight of him doing that while Kael waited beneath the blanket made her stomach tighten so hard she lost the next breath.

Kael’s mouth pressed to her shoulder. “Good?”

“Yes,” she said, breathless and immediate. “Yes, good. Keep going.”

Shen drew her fingers from his mouth slowly, kissed the tips, and pressed them against his chest. His skin was damp where she touched him. She spread her wet fingers over his abs, and he leaned into the contact, no longer pretending the touch did not pull at him.

Kael’s hand moved again, steady and slow, until the pleasure began building lower than before.

It came deeper this time because she was tired, because the bath had softened her, because the bed had trapped their heat until every brush of skin carried more than it should. Nia turned her head and kissed Kael, then Shen, then Kael again. Their mouths changed around her. Kael’s kiss grew rougher at the edges. Shen’s became more open and hungry. Nia took both until her body began to tremble.

Shen slid a hand behind her neck, supporting the weight of her braids so she could tip her head back without anything pulling.

Kael’s fingers pressed more firmly.

Nia’s hand closed in Kael’s tail. Her other tightened against Shen’s chest. The release came through her in a long wave, heavy enough that her body arched and then melted back into Kael’s hold. Kael’s name broke from her first, then Shen’s, softer and tangled against his mouth as the tremor moved through her.

Kael held her through all of it.

Shen kissed her cheek, then her chin, then the place near her mouth where her breath kept breaking. His tail stayed wrapped around her calf, smooth and warm. Kael’s tail curled over the backs of her thighs, soft and heavy, keeping the blankets tucked against the winter air.

When the shaking passed, Nia sank into the bedding.

Kael did not pull away until she covered his wrist and pressed once to show she was steady. Shen passed him a cloth, set it aside, and returned immediately to Nia’s side, close enough that the space he had left barely had time to cool.

Nia watched him through half-lowered eyes. “You had that ready.”

“There are always cloths near the bed,” Shen said, his voice quiet.

Kael’s mouth brushed the back of her shoulder, and the last of her laugh softened into a breath. Shen kissed her cheek while Kael’s hand moved over the curve of her ass again, gentler now, a slow possessive knead that made her hum instead of arch.

She reached back to touch him and missed because she did not have the strength to aim. Her palm landed on his stomach instead. Kael caught her hand and held it there.

She smiled with her eyes closed, too tired to correct the touch or move her hand.

His breath warmed her hair.

Shen slid closer until his chest pressed against hers. Nia tucked her face into him and breathed in cedarwood, bath heat, and the clean herbal scent that always clung to his skin. His smooth tail settled over one of her ankles. Kael’s soft tail curled over the backs of her knees. Their bodies made a closed warmth around her, and she settled deeper into it.

Shen kissed her forehead.

Nia lifted her face. “Kiss me again.”

His smile was faint and helplessly fond before he gave her what she asked for.

The kiss was slow now, almost too slow to keep from becoming sleep. Kael kissed the back of her neck while Shen kissed her lips, and Nia drifted between the two sensations, touching whichever body her hands found. One hand rested against Shen’s chest while the other found Kael’s stomach. Shen’s smooth tail lay warm at her ankle, and Kael’s softer fur curled behind her knees.

A muffled shout rose from far below.

Kael’s head lifted first. Shen’s hand stilled on Nia’s back. They both listened, their bodies changing around her without leaving her.

The bogaru continued. No alarm call followed. No horn. No running feet broke the quiet of the upper corridor. The festival carried on beneath the stone with its fires, cups, dancers, runners, and watchful patrol.

Kael settled again, though his arm stayed firm around Nia’s waist.

Shen reached across her and touched Kael’s forearm once, a quiet household signal that the same sound had reached him too. Nia covered both of their hands with hers, and the last tightness in Kael’s hold eased when no danger followed the noise.

Her eyes burned with tiredness and the strange softness that came after being warmed past every defense. She turned her face toward Kael and kissed him once, then turned toward Shen and kissed him too. They answered gently, letting her mouth move as slowly as it needed.

Shen’s thumb stroked her cheek. Nia opened her eyes halfway because she still wanted his face. His mouth was close, swollen from kissing her, his hair drying in loose pale strands near his jaw. Kael’s hand moved over her stomach behind her, heavy and familiar, and the warmth of his chest stayed pressed along her back.

Somewhere near the warmed stones, the bowls Sera had sent waited under their covers. Nia remembered them only distantly, with the soft certainty that Shen had thought of them before she could.

The words did not gather.

The room lost its sharp edges.

The drum below became a pulse under stone. Shen’s tail lay smooth over her ankle. Kael’s tail curled soft over the backs of her knees. Kael’s chest stayed against her back. Shen’s chest warmed her front. Nia’s hand rested over Kael’s stomach until sleep loosened her fingers, and Shen caught it before it slipped, placing it against his chest where his heartbeat moved steadily beneath her palm.

Kael kissed the back of her shoulder once, directly over the tender place his teeth had warmed. Shen kissed her cheek, then the tips of her fingers where his mouth had been earlier. Nia tried to answer both, but her mouth only brushed Shen’s skin before settling there.

Warmth filled every place the winter had touched.

Her feet were tucked beneath fur and tail. Her braids lay supported so they did not pull. The blanket held at her shoulder, at her hip, at the curve of her knees. Kael’s arm stayed firm around her waist, and Shen’s hand covered hers against his heart.

Far below, Stormbreak kept going without her. Fires burned, cups passed, drums held their slow winter rhythm, and someone else would notice when a child’s hood slipped or a runner forgot to drink. In the bed above it, Nia stopped following the beat. Her body had no cold left to guard against, no place left waiting to be held, no breath left trying to steady itself alone.

She sank between both of her husbands, loose and warm and complete, and sleep took the room without needing to be asked.
