Married To My One Night Mistake

Chapter 45: The Health Emergency

"Selen, it’s fine. I love you." Newton said.

"I know that this is not how or when I am supposed to do this. It was not even how I planned on telling you this.

It was supposed to be beneath the night sky as fireworks flew in the sky. But it is the truth.

And I would like to believe that although you may have been pushed by the wrong reasons, you still came to me. Just like you maybe would later.

This is just a faster pace. And I will be here for you every step of the way. I will only back down when you ask me to" he said with confidence.

Selen was too stunned to speak. "You do not have to respond right now, Selen. I can be here for you as a friend until then" he said

They said their goodbyes shortly after that and Selen walked into her house. Newton watched her go in before asking his driver back into the car and they drove out of the compound.

Selen walked in and headed for her children’s bedrooms. They were already asleep but she placed soft kisses on their foreheads and quietly went into her home office.

She was not going to bed just yet. She needed to find out if Clancy’s claims were true and if she was still legally his wife. And the night promised to be long.

She got in contact with the courthouses in Kent, England, trying to find one that had her marriage dissolution papers but there was none.

What made her feel even worse was when she tried to check her data, and all that she could find was a marriage certificate.

Only a few were available to respond to her that night so she had sent emails of enquiry to all of them.

When she glanced at the clock, she realised that it was already morning. She had not slept the entire night.

Clancy had managed to give her a sleepless night once again. She shut her eyes for a few minutes so she could rest for a bit before the kids woke up.

And for the first time in almost twenty four hours, she was glad about something- that it was the weekend.

It was hard to imagine going to work with low energy after a sleepless night and eye bags that were sure to be on her face after spending a night facing the computer screen.

She hoped that she would hear from them soon enough to get this done with. If what Clancy was saying was true, then she would just file for another divorce.

She was not going to just accept that they were still married and continue her life. No way.

She would file for another divorce, and this time, she would make sure that they both signed and it was stamped by a courthouse.

The weekend went by with very little chaos or hassle. The court houses that got back to her all carried the same message.

She was Mrs Avelino in their records, and there was never a divorce.

"What? No way. Why did we not confirm that before leaving England?" JK said as they sat in a restaurant for another Monday lunch.

"Oh, come on, JK . This is no one’s fault. How could you have possibly thought to check on that? I was the one who signed the papers and I did not even suspect that it was not filed" Selen said.

She was a new mom with triplets who was planning to leave the country, and he was the friend who was helping her.

They had too many important things on their plates to have figured it out. And if Clancy had never come out to say it, they probably would never know.

"And what makes this worse is that now I just seem like the woman who ran away from her husband with his children that he did not know about," she said.

"Do not beat yourself up on that. Anyone who sees you and your children would know that there was more to that. We will get to the bottom of this" he said to her.

Everyone was on her side and there was nothing to worry about. And for the first time in days, she let out a genuine sigh of relief.

The relief was short lived because in a few seconds, a call came in from her children’s school.

"And how is Diane?" JK asked. "Her next check up and medication restock is in two days" she said.

*Phone rings*

"hello, Mrs Carrero?" the principal said on the phone. "It’s the school," she mouthed to JK who nodded and was silent.

"Ma’am, I am so sorry that I have to give you this news like this but Diane is currently on her way to the hospital.

She was sitting with her brother’s during lunch and passed out. She stopped breathing ma’am" the principal said in a shaky voice.

She sounded like she was running and Selen could hear the ambulance in the background.

Selen was already on her feet, "what?!" She said and began running out of the restaurant.

JK ran behind her. "Selen! Selen, what’s wrong? What happened?" He asked as he followed her to her car.

"D- Diane. Fainted. Stopped breathing" She stuttered out. But JK understood what she was trying to say.

He took the phone from her and took her to his car that was parked closer.

"What hospital is she being taken to? No, please have them take her to the Healing Springs hospital, it is on the same route but closer.

She has a medical record there and she will be attended to faster. Please have her brother withdrawn from school and waiting in the lobby.

Do not let them see her taken into the hospital. We will meet you there in ten minutes, thank you." He spoke into the phone.

They were now in his car and he ended the call and handed the phone back to Selen who was shaking with fear.

"It will be fine. Everything will be fine" he said to her as he drove out of the restaurant and into the highway at full speed.
