The group that had stormed in wasn’t John Wick’s group from earlier. They were still cautiously advancing through the passages behind them, taking things step by step.

These people were led by Cassandra Igbeil, an Elder of the High Table, and were suspected to be members of the Assassin Brotherhood. Naturally, they weren’t still relying solely on hidden blades in the modern era. They had brought all the standard equipment as well, including assault rifles and submachine guns.

Compared with ordinary contract gunmen, however, this group had considerably more experience fighting as a coordinated unit. Compared with mercenaries, their individual combat abilities were also a cut above.

Then there was Cassandra, the Elder wielding an unknown melee weapon. She used offense as defense, becoming an impregnable shield that prevented the Reapers from getting close. This allowed the other Assassins to fire freely and pick off the Reapers one by one.

That was why they had advanced more quickly than the others. And that was also why, without realizing what awaited them, they had plunged straight into the Reapers’ lair.

The flashlights carried by these people couldn’t illuminate very far. Whether that was intentional or simply the best equipment they could obtain, within the limited range of illumination, all the Reapers avoided positions where they would be exposed.

So had they really been lured into an encirclement without realizing it?

"Who’s there? Are you here to rescue us?"

A sudden voice came from the darkness. Several flashlights immediately swung toward it.

Under the dim beams, shadows shifted everywhere, making it impossible to tell whether the figures were human or something else.

"Who are you?" someone asked.

After all, every Reaper they had encountered so far was incapable of human speech and behaved like a wild beast. When someone suddenly spoke, a normal person’s instinct was naturally to hear what they had to say.

"Help me! Please, help us! These monsters captured us. Every so often, they drag someone away and eat them. We’re terrified!"

Normally, when hearing such a plea for help, ordinary people would struggle between whether to rescue them or not. What if it was a trap? But what if there really were people waiting to be rescued?

Those with an overflowing sense of compassion would probably rush over the moment they heard someone calling for help.

Under Green Arrow Duck’s silent observation, however, the group made a move that was both unexpected and perfectly reasonable.

Their equipment wasn’t actually limited to the faintest possible illumination. They had simply needed that level of brightness to move around earlier.

Now that someone was calling for help, the lights that had previously struggled even to reveal silhouettes suddenly transformed into powerful ultraviolet spotlights.

The person who had spoken was illuminated as though a flash had exploded right in front of him. Whether human or monster, nobody could make out what he looked like.

They didn’t need to confirm who he was. They only needed to confirm whether he would run when exposed to ultraviolet light.

And so the sudden burst of brightness was practically indistinguishable from a flashbang going off.

The person being illuminated showed no signs of burning under the ultraviolet light.

The Reapers surrounding him, however, had a much worse time.

The new breed of vampires were like being splashed with concentrated sulfuric acid. White smoke rose from their bodies, accompanied by an acrid stench.

Naturally, the injured Reapers weren’t going to obediently remain in place until the ultraviolet light killed them. Almost immediately, they scattered and fled outward.

Judging from the chaos that erupted, it was obvious that the earlier cry for help hadn’t been genuine.

It had been a trap.

Unfortunately, the weakness of ultraviolet lighting was that it couldn’t kill vampires or Reapers instantly. They had to remain under continuous exposure for some time. If a vampire or Reaper escaped the light in time, it would merely suffer burns.

Failing to kill a snake outright naturally meant inviting the entire nest to launch a counterattack.

An astonishing number of Reapers had been hiding within this final chamber, and they launched an endless assault on the small group of humans.

Gunfire immediately erupted like a string of firecrackers, never stopping for even a moment.

These Assassins weren’t simply relying on blind faith in their shooting, mindlessly pulling the trigger and leaving their accuracy to fate. Everyone used controlled three-round bursts, firing at the enemies surging toward them wave after wave, doing their best not to waste ammunition.

Yet even with the ultraviolet spotlights mounted alongside their gun barrels, the Reapers’ assault didn’t diminish.

The new vampires endured the agony of their burning flesh and the curtain of ultraviolet rounds, charging forward one after another.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that every Reaper turned to ash before reaching the humans.

Whether watching from outside or fighting within the encirclement, everyone understood how perilous their situation was.

An unknown number of enemies.

Limited ammunition.

And worse still, the operating time of the ultraviolet spotlights was constrained by battery capacity and bulb temperature. They couldn’t remain on indefinitely.

If even one light failed, the instant it went dark, the human side would temporarily be plunged into blindness.

Even if the spotlights didn’t all fail simultaneously, any direction without illumination would become a visual blind spot. Reapers attacking from that direction would pose an enormous threat.

Just thinking about it was enough to send chills through the Assassins trapped in the encirclement.

This battle was like walking a tightrope. The Assassins could only hope that before the rope snapped, the enemy would either be completely wiped out or flee.

But the mastermind controlling the Reapers understood better than anyone that it had enough cards in its hand.

The humans would be the ones to lose.

Of course, that assumed the people watching from the sidelines didn’t interfere.

Green Arrow Duck wasn’t in a hurry to rescue the people inside because the other mechs were already approaching the end of their passages—the edge of this underground chamber.

Everyone was waiting for the moment when they were all in position.

Those who arrived first weren’t simply standing around doing nothing. The environmental data gathered by the mechs’ sensors was constantly being updated.

At the same time, the system was simulating the optimal attack positions and firing directions for every mech in concentrated-fire mode, ensuring maximum damage.

"Ursa has arrived."

From the situation relayed by Green Arrow Duck, Alexei understood how urgent things were. Although he had no connection to those people, they were all on the same human side, and he didn’t want to see a tragedy unfold.

"Bonnie has arrived."

Tina’s voice sounded calm, but her emotions were anything but. She had spotted someone familiar among the group below.

If the people down there hadn’t still been holding out, and if the outsiders hadn’t already had an attack plan of their own, she might have rushed down there herself.

For now, Tina silently deployed every weapon on the Bonnie mech. The support struts on its feet also drove into the ground, firmly stabilizing the mech’s stance.

"Minotaur has arrived."

Gilgamesh, who was particularly enthusiastic about clearing passages, was the last mech to arrive.

He had taken a slight detour along the way while chasing fleeing Reapers, costing him a little time. Fortunately, he still made it in time. And the Minotaur mech’s firepower was also among the main offensive assets of the group. There was no way they could begin without waiting for him.

With all the mechs in position, Green Arrow Duck unceremoniously took temporary control of every mech.

Inside everyone’s helmet display, a message appeared:

"Duck-Panther Armor: Duck Unit overriding control. Concentrated-fire mode. All weapons fire."

Gun ports and muzzles opened simultaneously.

The combined firepower of all five mechs poured down.

Streams of ultraviolet radiation instantly illuminated the entire open chamber as bright as daylight, leaving not a single shadow.

Ultraviolet rounds specifically targeted the Reapers lingering at the edges of the radiation streams. Any that weren’t killed immediately received follow-up shots, ensuring that not a single one was missed.

Every Reaper caught within the barrage was like a creature thrown into a pool of concentrated sulfuric acid. They were instantly carbonized into ash, without even having time to let out a scream.
