I finally remembered what i wanted to say a few Chapters ago.

It was regarding the reader reactions and the wn reader’s inclusion.

The way I choose names is through the Fandom rankings these days, at the start i just picked the latest comment of power stone doner at the time of writing.

But I have a fixed way now, so yiu know where your name has to be for me to see.

Toodaloo.

...

"And get me a T-Shirt. It’s kinda cold today." John said.

"You heard the man; get him a T-shirt." Fury looked around with a smirk.

John wore the T-shirt and walked towards the door. Even though it was dark outside, he planned to find a place to eat first. Everything else came after that.

"Oh, I am gonna like talking to this one." If there wasn’t enough sarcasm in Fury’s previous words, this time the words were practically drowned in it.

Thankfully for them, even at 2 A.M., there was an open IHOP not that far away. SHIELD agents got the post-midnight crowd out as John sat inside and gave his order.

Which was basically, bring everything you have.

The slightly sticky tables and hard seats aside, John ate the food as he had eaten for months. And the way he bit into the steak, licking his fingers and everything, had the female server look a bit longer than professionalism should’ve allowed.

’Making messy eating seductive is quite the feat.’ Other agents maintained the perimeter as Natasha entered the place. She guided the woman outside before she started drooling.

Since her identity as a SHIELD agent was already known to John because of John Doe, Fury allowed her to join the conversation without restraint.

And as she sat beside Fury, she found the former looking at John, now eating a stack of Choco chip pancakes, with quite the intriguing look.

"You can slow down; I am not gonna take it from you," Fury said at last, watching the stuffed face.

"You can have some if you want; you are paying for it." John placed another empty plate on the stack that had reached his head.

"I’ve never had a good meal without getting interrupted." Fury smiled.

"Your loss." John shrugged.

It wasn’t until a full hour had passed that John looked satisfied as the stacks of plates grew to three.

Fury had spent the time observing this young man he had learned about from Agent Romanoff’s report. Another thing that got his attention was who John had fought at Centurion Club.

The researchers were quite ecstatic about the broken machine at John’s feet. But the bigger catch was the one they had caught on the CCTV as he ran away.

Task Master.

’Too bad the cameras inside the party hall couldn’t capture the fight because of the green smoke.’ Fury stopped the feed of information coming in through his earpiece for a moment.

Truthfully, this guy wasn’t anything like the thing Bruce Banner had turned into. His connection to General Ross’s attempt at recreating the Super Soldier serum seemed unlikely.

If he was connected, Ross would’ve taken him to Brazil when he went there to get Banner.

This was something else. But he had a bigger priority at the moment.

"What is your connection with John Doe?" Fury started simple.

"I am the illustrator. He pays." John drank a Coca-Cola with a content look. However, something else worried him about Fury’s interest in John Doe.

"Why is SHIELD after a simple writer?" He probed.

"Do you really think we would be looking into a simple writer?" Fury crossed his arms.

"Did he break any laws?" John smoothly settled into the role of someone who knew John Doe. And Fury had already bought that part because of Natasha.

"We can’t share that yet." He said.

"Neither can I then." John smiled, gulping down the glass of chilled cola.

’The direct route is dead, I suppose.’ Fury leaned into the hard backrest.

After the assimilation, John had an unnatural control over his face. There was no way for Fury to get a read on him, no matter how piercing his one-eyed stare was.

And John didn’t have to think twice about Natasha dropping the ball; she also believed he was just connected to John Doe. Plus, he had information that would get him more brownie points with her, something he could pin on John Doe.

’Now he is openly winking at me.’ Natasha took the clue and lightly shook her head. She was subtle about it, but open enough for Fury to see that John and her were quite comfortable.

"Well, you can come to me when he breaks any laws. I’ll be on my way, gotta catch up on my sleep." John stood up; it wouldn’t be easy to get Fury off John Doe’s case; he could feel that much.

All he had to figure out now was which of his actions had stepped on this guy’s tail. But for that, he needed time. And the perfect opportunity to make that time came right after.

"There is something else. For footing the bill, you don’t mind giving us a little sample, right?" Fury said before John could walk past the table. "It’s the polite thing to do."

"I don’t mind." John stared him in the eye before continuing. "As long as it doesn’t get leaked outside."

"Why do you think it will get leaked?" Fury tilted his head as if he didn’t understand.

But John could see the gears already turning in his head.

Fury was what people called an eternally paranoid person who checked a bridge a hundred times before crossing it. He had suspicions about everything at all times. And rightfully so.

"Sure then..." That’s why, when John gave him that knowing smile and extended his arm, something clicked in his mind.

Sometimes an intelligent man’s own overthinking led to his downfall.

That was the best way to get him off the John Doe case, give him something bigger and more personal. SHIELD’s infiltration was a seed Fury already had in his mind. John had just given it enough water so the seed could sprout and grow well.

Even after John left, Fury stayed seated, looking at the vial that contained the young man’s blood. Was there something going on in SHIELD?

Fury felt like something was indeed going on; after all, Natasha had already confirmed that John knew of their existence and even the information that should’ve only been known by the operatives, Fury, and Natasha herself.

He rolled the vial between his fingers. Maybe John had tried to make the matter seem bigger than it was to shake him up. But if he hadn’t, that would open doors Fury had tried years to bury.

After glaring at the vial for a good 15 minutes, Fury finally stood up.

"Agent Romanoff..." He turned to Natasha, who had been on standby this entire time. "Extend your stay at ESU."

"I understand." Natasha watched Fury step out with a subtle gaze as he made a phone call.

Honestly, she had expected to be taken off John Doe’s case because there was no way to hide her personal interest in it, but because of John, Fury had decided to weaponize that interest and build up familiarity between them.

’He wasn’t this good with me.’ She remembered their questioning sessions with a small smile. ’Was he shy because of me?’

"Well, I wouldn’t hold my breath over it..." With the cool night air going through her red hair, she shook her head slightly, "...at least for now"

The phone in her hand showed her the live location of John’s ride home and Spiderwoman closing in on him.

Seemed like the night was far from over for all of them.

John thanked the SHIELD agent who drove him home and climbed the stairs with a tired sigh. Opening the door to his flat, he could smell the two people who had been here a few hours ago.

Even if the room looked the same as he had left it, he could picture the ones who had searched the place. Thankfully, ever since he had found out that SHIELD may be looking into him, he had started to carry the computer in his system inventory whenever he left.

Even if the thing had a face ID and a retina scanner for some reason, he didn’t want to take a chance.

Kicking off his shoes, John sat on the bed. It creaked a little; maybe it was time to buy a sturdier one. But before that, he covered the fingers on his left hand and equipped a ring on his middle finger, straight from the inventory.

Spying Device Sensor Pro Max. It cost him 15 EP.

A bit comical, but that was the name of this ring. It scanned the room for any hidden cameras and recording devices with a special energy wave.

The metallic ring hummed on his finger with several short bursts every second. And after ten seconds, it gave a long buzz before falling silent.

According to the manual, that meant there were no spying devices.

’I would’ve definitely given them a strongly worded letter if they tried that with me.’ With an exhausted sigh, John entered the shower.

Thinking about everything that had happened today.

The hot shower washed away the nerves from the tense night with the sweat and everything. He still couldn’t believe that he got Conqueror’s Haki for free. And when he saw it gone from the system store, it made him do a little shoulder dance while drying his hair. Half of the goal was already achieved.

If he followed this logic, he didn’t have to buy the advanced Haki package or RCT either. Theoretically, he could unlock them the way people from One Piece and JJK unlocked these powers.

’Advanced Haki I understand, but I don’t want to take a risk for RCT.’ A few more days would give him enough EP for the latter anyway.

There was something else that made him grit his teeth at the moment, though. If he had purchased the Jujutsu Sorcerer physique after fully awakening the Hanma Bloodline, he could’ve possibly gotten Gojo or Yuta level of cursed energy.

’No use crying over spilt milk, I suppose. Boogie Woogie did help massively against Task Master.’ John rested his head on the pillow with a long yawn.

At least he now understood how much potential he had been suppressing because of his unfounded fears. Regardless, things were different now.

He still needed some time to consider what he would buy after RCT, and even if the EP notifications had been going wild since the party, John had little energy for that at the moment.

So, he closed his eyes and fell asleep instantly for once. No existential crisis tonight. No thinking what he could’ve done better in his life, just sweet and soothing sleep.

However, a few hours later, someone slipped in from the open window alongside the cool air. Her footsteps made no sound as she came closer.
