Marvel: I Am The Lord of the Shadow Dimension

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: A New Sugar Daddy

"Why are you here?" Agent Phil Coulson asked, staring in sheer disbelief at the man lounging under a beach umbrella.

Because a certain one-eyed Director had refused to approve the requisition form for a private jet, Coulson had been forced to drive his standard-issue S.H.I.E.L.D. sedan all the way from Tony Stark's mansion in Malibu, California, to the middle of the New Mexico desert. It had been an exhausting, multi-day road trip.

Yet somehow, a guy who had left Malibu a full day after him had beaten him to the objective.

"Relax, Coulson. Catch!"

Luke, dressed in a bright floral Hawaiian shirt and board shorts, didn't even bother sitting up from his comfortable lounge chair. He casually reached into a cooler beside him, pulled out an ice-cold can of Coke, and tossed it to the exhausted agent.

"It's a beautiful day in the desert. It'd be a crime not to enjoy an ice-cold soda," Luke said, leaning back and adjusting his sunglasses.

Coulson sighed heavily. He popped the tab and took a long, desperate swig of the freezing soda. The sudden chill temporarily revived his exhausted spirit.

"So, did Director Fury send you here as well?" Coulson asked, letting out a satisfied burp.

"Nope. The Director actively tries to hide things from me, probably out of paranoia. Before I officially refused to join his little boy band, he wanted to stick me in the most remote corner of the country so I wouldn't accidentally discover S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets," Luke laughed.

"But I have my own 'intelligence network.' I think it secretly drives him crazy."

"So, is there something incredibly unusual here? Something powerful enough to attract you all the way out here?" Coulson asked, glancing at the large crowd of locals hosting an impromptu tailgate party a few dozen yards away. Looking down at his own black suit and tie, Coulson suddenly felt incredibly out of place.

"Just watch that guy," Luke suddenly sat up, pointing eagerly at the massive crater in the center of the party.

An old, bearded man had just backed a beat-up pickup truck to the edge of the crater. He excitedly tied a heavy steel towing chain around the handle of the strange object sitting at the bottom of the pit, then hurried back to the driver's seat.

The truck's engine roared. The rear tires spun furiously, kicking up massive clouds of dust and burning rubber, but the truck didn't move a single inch forward.

After a few seconds of intense struggling, the heavy towing chain didn't snap—instead, the entire rear axle and truck bed were violently ripped off the chassis, crashing to the ground while the front half of the truck lurched forward.

The surrounding crowd let out a collective, disappointed groan.

"What kind of meteor is that?" Coulson frowned, highly intrigued, and started walking toward the crater to get a closer look.

Luke, however, kept his eyes entirely focused on the old man climbing out of the ruined truck.

"Hey! Say cheese!" Luke yelled, raising his digital camera and snapping a photo of the old man.

But when Luke checked the digital viewfinder, he froze. The old man in the truck had vanished. In his place, a different, much older man with a mischievous smile was standing right behind Luke, throwing a peace sign directly into the camera lens.

Luke whipped his head around. The old man was gone. He looked back at the old man by the truck—it was the original guy again.

"You sly old fox," Luke muttered, lowering his camera. He lay back down on his lounge chair and took another sip of his Coke, completely unbothered. 2

When he reached down to grab another can a few minutes later, he noticed one was missing. In its place lay a physical, printed Polaroid photo.

Luke picked it up. It was a picture of the mischievous old man throwing a peace sign behind Luke's lounge chair, grinning broadly.

"Not bad. Got my good angle," Luke nodded in approval, sliding the photo into his pocket just as Coulson returned, his expression incredibly grim.

"Do you know what that 'meteor' actually is?" Coulson asked quietly. Even though his rational mind refused to accept it, his eyes hadn't lied. It was unequivocally a hammer.

Originally, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s atmospheric monitoring division had simply reported a localized, anomalous meteorite strike that local authorities couldn't move. Seeing Coulson exhausted from dealing with Tony Stark, Fury had officially assigned him this low-priority retrieval mission as an excuse to give his best agent a quiet 'vacation' in the desert.

But seeing Luke here, combined with the impossible density of the object in the crater, Coulson knew this situation was rapidly escalating beyond a simple 'vacation.'

"It's a meteor. What else would it be? The legendary hammer of the God of Thunder?" Luke replied sarcastically. "By the way, check out this photo I just took."

Coulson ignored Luke's blatant deflection and leaned over to look at the digital camera screen. "Why is the background behind you completely blurred out? Does the meteor emit a localized electromagnetic field that disrupts digital sensors?"

Coulson immediately went into high alert. If the hammer emitted a bizarre magnetic field, could it cause cellular damage or radiation poisoning to the civilians nearby?

Without hesitating, Coulson pulled out his encrypted satellite phone and called Director Fury. Upon hearing that Luke was present and the object was anomalous, Fury immediately authorized a full-scale lockdown. Dozens of S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical teams and mobile lab units were scrambled from nearby bases.

After finishing the call, Coulson looked back at the crater. Several massive, incredibly muscular locals were currently taking turns grunting and straining, desperately trying to lift the hammer. Coulson rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.

'What is wrong with these people? Do they think this is the Sword in the Stone? Do they think lifting it makes them the King of New Mexico?'

Worried about potential radiation exposure, Coulson stepped forward, flashed his badge, and loudly ordered the crowd to disperse. But the locals, many of whom were heavily intoxicated, aggressively refused. One particularly drunk man even pulled a hunting rifle out of his truck and racked the bolt.

Unarmed and vastly outnumbered, Coulson had no choice but to back away to de-escalate the situation. He couldn't exactly pull his sidearm and start a shootout with drunken civilians over a rock.

"Can you have your ninjas scare these people away?" Coulson asked Luke in a low voice. "If that thing is emitting harmful radiation, they're all in danger."

"Relax, the hammer isn't radioactive. If anything, whoever manages to lift it will get a massive, godly power boost. You should go give it a try," Luke replied lazily, showing absolutely zero interest in playing bouncer for S.H.I.E.L.D.

While talking, Luke secretly attempted to absorb the physical Polaroid photo the old man had left him into the Dark Dimension. Surprisingly, the photo completely resisted the dimensional assimilation. Satisfied that it was completely harmless and just a magical prank, Luke tucked it safely away and raised his Coke in a silent toast to the empty air. He honestly hoped someone would surprise him and actually lift Mjolnir today. 1

Coulson sighed helplessly but relaxed slightly upon hearing the hammer wasn't dangerous.

Thirty minutes later, the deafening thwip-thwip-thwip of helicopter rotors filled the air. Several black S.H.I.E.L.D. transport choppers descended on the site. Heavily armed tactical agents poured out, using megaphones to announce a "hazardous radiation leak." The terrified locals instantly scattered, abandoning their trucks and beer coolers.

Coulson breathed a sigh of relief and ordered a specialized cargo chopper to attempt to airlift the hammer.

However, even when the heavy-lift chopper attached high-tensile steel cables to the handle, it couldn't budge the hammer an inch. They even tried excavating the dirt directly underneath the hammer, hoping to scoop it up along with a chunk of the earth, but failed. Whatever magical property anchored the hammer made the soft desert soil beneath it harder than reinforced diamond.

Accepting that the object was entirely immovable, Coulson ordered the tactical teams to rapidly construct a secure perimeter and a modular research base directly over the crater.

Watching the highly efficient agents assemble a high-tech, multi-story base from modular crates in less than thirty minutes, Luke was genuinely impressed. He mentally ordered four Shadow Ninjas to grab the corners of his lounge chair, casually carrying him over the perimeter fence and setting him down in a prime viewing spot inside the new base.

"I see you prefer traveling in a palanquin," Coulson remarked dryly as he walked over, directing a team of scientists to begin atmospheric scans.

Luke shook his head. "A traditional palanquin requires eight bearers to show true status. I only have four. I'm practically roughing it."

Ignoring Luke's bizarre logic, Coulson turned to coordinate with a newly arrived tactical specialist.

Watching the agent—who was carrying a highly advanced, customized compound bow—grapple up to the highest vantage point in the base, Luke quietly pulled out his camera and snapped a photo of Clint Barton.

Noticing the flash, Coulson frowned. "You can't post photos of him online, Luke. He's a highly classified covert operative. If you burn his face, his career is over."

"Relax, I'll blur his face out," Luke waved him off dismissively, continuing to snap photos of Mjolnir from different angles.

Bored with taking pictures, Luke finally stood up from his lounge chair, stretched his back, and walked down into the center of the crater.

"Excuse me. Coming through," Luke casually pushed past a group of highly annoyed S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists in hazmat suits. He stopped in front of Mjolnir, reached down, and firmly grasped the leather-wrapped handle.

He pulled upward.

Instantly, a powerful, invisible wave of energy pushed back against him, violently resisting his attempt to lift it.

"Interesting," Luke smirked.

He immediately channeled a massive surge of pure dark energy into his right arm, violently suppressing the localized magical resistance. He pulled upward again.

This time, the earth surrounding the hammer groaned and cracked. Slowly, agonizingly, Luke lifted Mjolnir entirely off the ground.

"I think I can go further," Luke muttered, glancing at Coulson, whose jaw had practically hit the floor.

Luke forced his dark energy directly into the Uru metal, attempting to forcibly override and suppress the complex web of enchantments within the hammer.

For a brief second, he succeeded. He raised Mjolnir triumphantly into the air.

Instantly, the clear desert sky turned pitch black. Massive, terrifying storm clouds rapidly gathered overhead. Deafening thunder rolled, and violent arcs of lightning began striking the ground all around the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.

Before Luke could even celebrate, the ancient, unfathomably powerful enchantments within Mjolnir violently reacted to the invasive dark energy. The hammer unleashed a terrifying surge of divine power, instantly annihilating the dark energy Luke had pumped into it and completely breaking his magical hold.

'Crap!'

Without his dark energy suppressing the enchantment, the full, infinite weight of Mjolnir returned.

The hammer slammed downward with the force of a meteor. Luke, refusing to let go, was violently dragged down with it. His feet shattered the bedrock, sinking knee-deep into the solid stone crater floor before he was finally forced to release his grip.

"Whew... that was heavy," Luke gasped, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath to calm his racing heart.

But when he opened his eyes, he was no longer standing in a dusty crater in New Mexico.

He was standing in a massive, infinitely vast expanse of pure, blinding golden light. Floating gently in the air in front of him was an ancient, incredibly regal old man with a golden eye patch over his right eye. The man appeared to be deeply asleep.

"Oh... shit."

Luke's heart stopped. He instantly tried to shadow-step back to the Dark Dimension.

But the moment he summoned a wisp of dark energy, the golden light surrounding him instantly crushed and annihilated it, completely severing his connection to his realm.

"I'm so sorry, Your Majesty! I didn't mean to touch it! I swear I'll never do it again!" Luke instantly dropped to one knee, completely abandoning his pride.

Running away was utterly pointless anyway. The old man floating in front of him was Odin All-Father, the King of Asgard. He was a being on the exact same cosmic tier as the Ancient One. Odin could literally erase him from existence with a casual wave of his hand... or a single punch.

Luke knew his place. He had grown from a mere ant to a slightly larger caterpillar, but he was still facing a god.

'What do I do now?!'

Luke watched anxiously as Odin's remaining eyelid twitched. Slowly, the All-Father opened his eye.

"How dare you attempt to—!" Odin's booming, furious voice suddenly cut off. He stared in absolute shock, not at Luke, but at something directly behind him.

"It has been a long time, King Odin."

A calm, highly familiar voice echoed through the golden void.

Luke whipped his head around. Standing right behind him, wearing her simple yellow robes, was the Ancient One.

"Master Ancient One! What brings you to this realm?" Odin's furious expression instantly melted into a warm, booming laugh, as if greeting an old friend.

'Master...'

"I am here on behalf of this little one," the Ancient One said calmly, glancing down at Luke.

'Oh, thank god. I'm saved.' Luke practically melted in relief. To these two ancient, cosmic beings, his entire lifespan was barely a blip on the radar.

Luke quietly scuttled backward, trying to shrink into the corner and hoping Odin would forget he was there. Unfortunately, the Ancient One's comment immediately drew Odin's sharp gaze back to him.

"Why?" Odin frowned, his single eye piercing through Luke's soul.

The Ancient One casually waved her hand. A gentle pulse of energy hit Luke, sending him tumbling backward through the golden void. It didn't hurt him, but it pushed him far enough away that he couldn't hear their conversation.

Luke didn't dare try to eavesdrop anyway. Hearing cosmic secrets was a great way to get silenced permanently.

After a few minutes of silent conversation, the Ancient One reached out her hand, and the spatial distance instantly collapsed, pulling Luke back to her side.

As he stood up, Luke noticed a glowing magical brand hovering above the Ancient One's palm. It was the absolute command seal for his dark energy, but instead of Dormammu's chaotic, demonic visage, the seal had reformed into the shape of a sleek, expressionless mask.

'I have to admit, the mask logo looks way cooler than Dormammu's ugly face,' Luke thought to himself, maintaining a perfectly obedient, innocent expression in front of the two powerhouses.

Odin stared at Luke for a long moment, remaining silent. He finally turned to look at the Ancient One and gave a small nod.

The Ancient One turned to Luke. "Starting today, you will provide a steady, continuous supply of dark energy to King Odin. Do you accept these terms?"

'Wait... is this... A NEW SUGAR DADDY?!'

Luke nodded frantically. If he supplied energy to Odin, the King of Asgard would technically owe him a favor! Having the All-Father owe you a favor was the ultimate 'Get Out of Jail Free' card in the universe!

Luke eagerly accepted the magical contract. He immediately felt a constant, steady drain on his reserves—roughly a thousand Energy Points per second.

It made sense. Odin was ancient even by Asgardian standards. He constantly entered the 'Odinsleep' to forcefully regulate and suppress the overwhelming cosmic energy tearing his aging body apart. Providing a continuous, external source of highly potent dark energy to help suppress that internal pressure was a massive relief for the old King.

The Ancient One only drew energy from him during active combat, but Odin required a constant, passive drip feed.

As the contract settled, Luke breathed a massive sigh of relief. However, a sudden, terrifying thought crossed his mind:

'Wait... if Odin is this ancient and requires constant life support... why does Thor's mother, Frigga, look so incredibly young? Did Odin pull a Leonardo DiCaprio and marry a woman thousands of years younger than him?! Does that mean if Frigga doesn't get murdered by Malekith in the sequel, she'll probably outlive Odin by millennia?!' 1

The implications were too terrifying to dwell on. Luke immediately forced the thoughts out of his head.

Having successfully established the contract, Odin closed his eye for a moment, sensing the pure, incredibly potent dark energy flowing into him. He opened his eye, a rare, genuine smile gracing his face, and gave Luke an approving nod.

Then, assuming his regal, terrifying persona once more, Odin violently expelled Luke from the golden void.

GASP!

Luke violently sucked in a breath of hot desert air, finding himself standing back in the crater with his hand still resting on Mjolnir. He let go of the handle and stumbled backward, sweating profusely.

'He let me go! I survived! AND I got a new cosmic backer!'

Luke grinned wildly. 'Just you wait, Thanos. I've got two Supreme-tier entities on speed dial now! If you dare set foot on Earth, I'll make you wish you never left Titan!'

"Are you alright, Consultant?" Coulson asked, looking at Luke with deep concern. Luke had grabbed the hammer, lifted it slightly, triggered a localized thunderstorm, and then stood completely frozen with his eyes closed for a solid five minutes.

"I'm perfectly fine, Coulson," Luke laughed, turning away from the hammer.

"I'm going to head into town to grab a burger. Did you know Tony actually opened a Stark Burger franchise out here? Haven't had one in ages. See ya!"

Ignoring Coulson's incredibly confused stare, Luke casually strolled out of the secure perimeter.

"He looked incredibly happy... did the hammer actually give him some kind of power boost?" Coulson muttered, staring at the hammer, which had now sunk even deeper into the bedrock. He shook his head and ordered the scientists to resume their scans.

Luke happily practically skipped into the small desert town of Puente Antiguo. Looking at the quaint, easily destructible buildings, Luke realized this was the perfect battleground.

'If the Destroyer armor shows up and I can't beat it, I'll just kite it away from the town!'

Luke paused, a smug grin spreading across his face. 'Wait a minute. Why would I run? Odin is literally on my payroll now! I'll just stand right in front of the Destroyer and dare it to shoot me! Let's see if the armor dares to blast its King's personal life-support battery!'

Feeling utterly invincible, Luke walked into the Stark Burger restaurant, ordered two double cheeseburgers, and sat down to enjoy his meal.

Meanwhile, back in the golden void.

Odin stared at a magical projection displaying Luke happily munching on a cheeseburger.

"Are you absolutely certain this boy is reliable?" Odin asked, his voice echoing with cosmic weight.

"Rest assured. He possesses the potential to halt Ragnarök itself," the Ancient One replied calmly. "The purity and sheer density of his dark energy is extraordinary. Given time, it will be powerful enough to suppress even your firstborn." 2

Even the usually stoic Ancient One had nearly broken character earlier. Watching Luke mentally apologize and cower like a scolded child had been highly amusing. She had stepped in to save him because she genuinely enjoyed his chaotic presence on Earth.

"His energy is indeed remarkably pure," Odin admitted grudgingly. "However, the current volume is pitiful. It is not even sufficient to fully suppress the recoil of my runic magic."

"True. But his growth rate is unparalleled, provided he has access to new dimensional coordinates," the Ancient One stated. "I request that you compile all the multiversal coordinates of the Dark Dimensions Asgard has cataloged over the millennia and bestow them upon him in due time. He doesn't need an infinite amount; just enough to reach the threshold where he can independently navigate the multiverse."

The Ancient One looked directly into Odin's single eye, her voice filled with absolute certainty.

Odin stared back at the Sorcerer Supreme.

"You who observe the flow of time... take heed lest you become a slave to it."

With that final, cryptic warning, the golden void dissolved, and Odin returned to his eternal sleep.
