==================
"Clear," Natasha said simply after shooting off three Hydra agents that were headed this way.
But when she turned back to face the room, the Black Widow froze. Her eyes widened in absolute shock.
Because sitting casually in the spinning chair right next to Hill, who was choking on a black dog collar, was someone they knew would eventually show up... but not here... not like this...
"Hello, girls."
Natasha’s instincts kicked in instantly. Before her brain had even fully processed the impossible sight of the Jester lounging in the comms hub, both of her suppressed pistols were raised and aimed squarely at his masked head.
"Release her," Natasha ordered, "Now."
"Ah, Agent Romanoff! What a pleasant surprise," Veritas chirped, his voice dripping with a twisted, playful amusement. "And please, there’s no need for the guns. Don’t worry, Hill doesn’t mind! We do this sort of thing all the time. Isn’t that right, Maria?"
Natasha reached up with one hand and tapped her earpiece. "Steve? Do you copy? Veritas has breached the comm hub. I repeat, Veritas is-"
Dead silence. Not even static.
Veritas had already cut all outside communication.
Next to him, Maria Hill was in serious trouble. The black collar around her neck was forged from solid, compressed soot, and it was tight. She gripped the choker frantically with both hands, her knuckles turning white as she tried to pry it off.
Seeing her friend’s desperate condition, Natasha didn’t wait for another opening. She had a clear shot. She pulled the trigger.
But the bullet never reached its target. A few meters away from Veritas’s mask, a dense puff of black smoke popped into existence. It absorbed the kinetic energy of the bullet perfectly.
Clink.
The flattened piece of lead dropped harmlessly onto the floor.
Natasha’s eyes widened. But before she could fire again, that small puff of smoke violently expanded. It shot forward like an angry swarm of hornets, flying directly into Natasha’s face.
She immediately clamped her mouth shut and tried to hold her breath, but the smoke was like a living thing. It forced its way into her nose and mouth, aggressively blocking her breathing passages.
Natasha dropped her gun and fell to her knees, violently clutching her throat as the soot filled her lungs, making it absolutely impossible to draw a breath.
With the Black Widow effectively put in "time-out," Veritas turned his attention back to his captive.
Hill was still struggling, her face flushed red. "Why..." she gasped out, fighting for every single syllable. "Are you... doing this...?"
"Oh dear, you really don’t know?" Veritas asked, feigning innocent surprise.
He gave the ash leash a sharp, vicious yank. The wheels of Hill’s office chair slid sideways, and she was roughly pulled off the seat, crashing onto her knees in front of him with a pained "ughhhh".
With a flick of his wrist, the Jester’s black smoke swirled around Hill’s wrists and ankles, binding her arms tightly behind her back and locking her legs in place. She had absolutely no way to resist.
Yet, even while kneeling, bound, and struggling for air, Maria Hill refused to break. She tilted her chin up, glaring into the Jester’s hollow eyeholes with pure, unfiltered rage.
She felt like her lungs were burning, but she absolutely refused to give this masked psychopath the satisfaction of seeing her look desperate.
A few feet away, hovering quietly in the air behind Hill, was a smartphone encased in floating ash.
The camera was perfectly angled to capture the Jester sitting casually in the chair, with a bound Maria Hill kneeling before him.
The stream was currently active for his Patron members only.

[Kekoa:] You really like the freaky stuff, huh ?
[enemies_to_Lovers_enjoyer:] Okay, this is the first time we’ve actually seen Hill and Veri-boy interact on stream, but from his words, they’ve definitely had a few encounters like this before... and from what I can see, they must’ve been wild as f**! Look at Hill’s demeanor. She knows any act of defiance might get her killed but look at that unrelenting fire in her eyes! It’s like a proud female knight captured by the enemy prince! OMG, I am living for this trope!
[PrettyInRed:] Veritas? Right now? Here? We’re doing this? AOT Berthlowjob gif
[enemies_to_Lovers_enjoyer:] @PrettyInRed Yes, right here, right now! AOT Reiner gif

[clownsimp69:] Still though, I don’t get the point of being so violent with Nat and Hill. What did they even do?
[The Fool Fan:] @clownsimp69 As the shipper said, Veritas and Hill have clearly had secret meetings before this. If I had to analyze it, their relationship was built on some mutual benefit - though obviously heavily skewed in the Jester’s favor. Perhaps this dog leash symbolizes something deeper. Now, I am NOT a part of the degenerates club in this chat, but strictly from a psychological standpoint, I think their relationship is something like that of a master and pet... Or maybe he’s slowly trying to make it that way. The real question is what she did to earn his ire today. But no matter. She asked the question, and the Jester of Truth never keeps his audience in the dark.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Oh, Maria," Veritas clicked his tongue in disappointment.
He willed the ash choker to slightly loosen. Hill instantly took a desperate, ragged gasp, sucking in as much air as her burning lungs could take.
"I thought we had a really good thing going on between us," the Jester sighed. "We had the same goal. I even helped you guys out yesterday. I just wanted to know if you were doing okay. I wanted to give you a call, see if you needed my help today..."
He reached into his crisp black suit jacket and pulled out a familiar object.
Hill’s eyes widened slightly. It was the burner phone she had destroyed that very morning. The back of the device was intact, but the screen was shattered into a thousand pieces, still bearing the very clear, dusty imprint of her boot.
"But what did I get in return for caring so much?" he asked, his voice dropping.
"You stomped on my heart and broke it to pieces. Just like this." He wiggled the shattered phone. "After everything I’ve done... you wanted to get rid of me, didn’t you?"
Hill’s heart pounded wildly against her ribs. She didn’t care how he’d gotten the phone back. She only cared about the cold, creeping dread settling into her stomach as she awaited his next move.
The Jester tossed the broken phone over his shoulder. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees until his masked face was just inches from hers.
"But you know what?" Veritas whispered, his tone suddenly dropping its theatrical edge. "It’s fine. You did what you thought was right at that moment. I forgive you for that."
"After all," Veritas purred, "if you hadn’t been so rude and made me come all the way here to check on you... I never would have realized that you currently have full, unrestricted access to the new targeting blades your oh-so-brave heroes are busy installing."
Then the painted smile on his mask moved.
It widened.
’This madman...’ Hill gritted her teeth. Her fingers curled uselessly behind her back.
"Maria," he said gently, reaching out a gloved hand to casually caress her chin. "In your years of experience as a top agent, you must have seen the true darkness of this world. The rot hiding beneath the surface. Why don’t I help you clean it up a bit?"
Veritas tilted his head. With a thought, he willed the ash leash connecting them to disperse. But before Hill could even think about moving, the soot instantly reformed, slapping over her mouth as a thick, suffocating gag.
Hill’s eyes went wide. She thrashed against her restraints, but the ash held her down like solid steel.
"Today is the day of the purge, Maria, the day of Judgement" Veritas declared, his voice taking on a dark, chilling resonance. "I will rewrite the algorithm. I will remove everyone who has committed acts I deem unfit for the world I will create...."
He reached forward, his hand wrapping firmly around her throat, while simultaneously willing the black smoke to swirl into her nose, completely cutting off her oxygen supply once again.
Hill struggled vainly, her vision swimming with dark spots. She glared up at him, fighting until the very last second as the world began to spin out of control.
The last thing she heard before passing out completely was the Jester leaning in close, whispering his dreadful promise to her.
"Each and every sinner in this world will look up to the sky and beg for mercy... and I will whisper... No."
