Xandar is the capital of the Nova Empire and the home base of the Nova Corps, which boasts a fleet of thousands of micro-combat vessels. Much like Earth, this planet is guarded by a young star, giving it alternating cycles of day, night, and seasons.
Xandar’s technology is highly advanced, with magnificent modern architecture standing tall. The city is lush with greenery, and the lakes and mountains provide stunning scenery, making it look like a futuristic Earth from centuries ahead. Compared to the Kree, the Xandarians are more peaceful and friendly. As a world-renowned transit hub and trading post, many fleets choose to rest and resupply here, making the commercial and tourism sectors exceptionally developed.
Star-Lord navigated his ship, the Milano, through entry inspection and landed at a hangar near the capital. He stepped off the ship, bag in hand, and moved through the crowds in high spirits. Once he completed his mission, he’d pocket a bounty of 40,000 units—enough to live lavishly for years or give his ship a serious upgrade.
What he didn’t realize was that a group of bounty hunters already had their eyes on his grinning face.
Star-Lord reached the commercial district of the city square, then crossed a footbridge and entered a shop. The store was less than 100 square meters; ten people standing inside would make it feel claustrophobic. It seemed that whether on Earth or in space, capital city real estate was eye-wateringly expensive.
Both sides of the path leading to the counter were lined with glass display cases filled with expensive artifacts to build the shop’s prestige. There were no sales clerks; the owner handled everything. He was a strange-looking alien, less than a meter tall, wearing a white suit.
He looked up with his oversized head and greeted Star-Lord: "Mr. Quill."
"Hey!" Star-Lord waved, walked to the counter, and pulled the Orb from his bag. "Mission accomplished. I found what you wanted."
The owner looked toward the door and asked curiously, "Yondu didn’t come?"
Yondu was the leader of Ravager and Star-Lord’s foster father. Unfortunately, this father figure had a volcanic temper and constantly berated him, which led Star-Lord to the idea of striking out on his own. This specific job had been negotiated between Yondu and the owner, but Star-Lord had snatched the Orb ahead of time after getting the intel, intending to take the reward and run. The universe was big; as long as he had money, he could live comfortably anywhere—why stay and put up with Yondu’s shit every day?
Knowing Star-Lord had betrayed him, Yondu had already put out a bounty for 40,000 units. A reward that high attracted plenty of hunters, and Xandar was never short on those types.
"Uh... Yondu wanted to come, but he got busy with some last-minute stuff. He told me to say hi," Star-Lord lied smoothly, practiced in the art of bullshit.
Since they were part of the same crew, the owner didn’t think twice. He picked up the Orb and began verifying the goods.
Star-Lord watched him and asked a curious question: "What’s actually inside this thing?"
The owner, focused on his inspection, replied casually, "My policy is to never disclose the client’s identity or the nature of the goods."
"Fair enough. But I nearly got killed by a bunch of people trying to get this." Remembering the fight on Morag, Star-Lord still felt the chill of his narrow escape.
The owner said, "The greater the risk, the greater the profit. That’s the rule of this business, isn’t it?"
Star-Lord didn’t push further but mentioned the people who tried to kill him: "Those weirdos with things sticking out of their heads said they were working for a guy named Ronan."
Hearing this, the owner froze. "Ronan?"
Star-Lord, still clueless about the gravity of the situation, nodded like an idiot.
The owner’s face turned pale. He immediately grabbed the Orb, shoved it back into Star-Lord’s arms, and pushed him toward the door. "I’m sorry, Mr. Quill. If Ronan is involved in this, I can’t touch it."
Confused, Star-Lord asked, "Why? Who the hell is this Ronan guy anyway?"
The owner explained in a frantic tone, "He’s a Kree fanatic with a grudge against Xandar. He won’t stop until our entire civilization is wiped out."
"Hey, calm down..."
"Just leave! This is a man I cannot afford to provoke."
"Hey! And I can?! You’re the one who gave me the job!"
Star-Lord felt like he’d stepped in shit. He thought this was just a slightly dangerous gig, but he never expected to cross such a powerful figure. The owner didn’t want him there a second longer and shoved him out the door. "Goodbye, Mr. Quill!"
Clang. The iron door of the shop slammed shut and locked the moment Star-Lord was pushed out.
"Hey! We had a deal, you old fraud!" Star-Lord roared at the closed door.
But when he turned around, he saw a beautiful girl leaning against the wall outside the shop. She had green skin, long wavy black hair, and a lean, athletic build, dressed in short black leathers.
This girl... is a total babe.
Star-Lord’s anger vanished instantly, replaced by his playboy mode. He flashed a smile and waved. "Hey!"
Gamora looked up and asked, "What happened?"
Wow. That smoky, husky voice. Star-Lord bet it sounded even better when she would moan. He swallowed hard and pointed at the closed door. "This guy stood me up. I hate people with no integrity. My name’s Peter Quill, but my friends call me Star-Lord."
Gamora asked softly, "So you must be a man of great integrity then?"
"Oh, I don’t like to brag, but people say it all the time. I like to keep it low-key..."
He turned his head to boast, playfully tossing the Orb in the air—a classic tell that he was lying.
Gamora walked right up to him. Just as Star-Lord tossed the Orb up again, she snatched it with lightning speed and delivered a brutal kick to his stomach.
"Ugh..." Star-Lord clutched his gut and stumbled back. He looked up to see Gamora sprinting away.
So she was after this too? And here I thought...
Disappointed, Star-Lord pulled a laser-cord from his pocket and threw it with precision. The glowing red rope spun through the air and expertly wrapped around Gamora’s legs.
Thump!
Gamora faceplanted onto the pavement.
"Thief! Stop right there!" Star-Lord roared, running toward her. He lunged forward, intending to tackle her. He wanted to catch the thief, but more than that, he wanted to roll around on the ground with this beautiful one.
Gamora quickly disentangled herself from the rope, rolled onto her back, and kicked Star-Lord squarely in the chest, sending him flying.
"Basterd!" Gamora scrambled up and slammed a fist into Star-Lord’s face.
After taking a few hits, Star-Lord realized he was outmatched and reached for his laser pistol. Gamora instantly pinned him down, stepping on his right hand.
She drew a dagger from her waist and lunged it toward Star-Lord’s face. Star-Lord was terrified, reflexively crossing his elbows to defend himself.
Suddenly, a dark blur lunged out of the crowd and tackled Gamora. The Orb and the dagger both skittered across the ground. The onlookers saw a small creature that looked exactly like a raccoon, with a sniper rifle strapped to his back.
"Quick, get him in the bag!" The raccoon shouted.
His partner was a two-meter-tall tree-man with a vacant expression. Groot held a black sack, and several branches sprouted from his body, tightly binding the struggling Gamora.
The raccoon, perched on Gamora’s head, snapped, "Not the girl, you idiot! Can’t you tell them apart?"
"Argh!" Gamora roared in frustration, but the branches were incredibly resilient.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Star-Lord scrambled to his feet, grabbed the Orb, and pushed through the crowd, running for his life.
Run, run, run! I can’t let them get this!
Star-Lord went full speed, his legs churning like pistons. But then, he saw a long-haired beauty in silver-white armor blocking his path, staring at him with excitement. For a split second, Star-Lord thought one of his old flames had finally tracked him down, but the memory of Gamora’s kick snapped him back to reality.
"Thank the gods, I finally caught up!"
Star-Lord caught the faint words as the warrior closed in on him. Her speed was supernatural; she was in front of him in a heartbeat. Star-Lord’s brain registered her proximity, but before his limbs could react, he was sent flying by a kick.
The Orb flew into the air and landed perfectly in Valkyrie’s hand.
On the other side, Gamora finally tore through the branches and hurled the raccoon off her head. She snatched her dagger from the ground and saw a woman with flowing hair running away with the Orb. Gamora took aim and threw her dagger with all her might.
Valkyrie, focused on the Star-Lord behind her, didn’t expect a dagger to come out of nowhere. It struck her elbow.
"Ah!"
Her arm went numb from the sudden pain. Her grip loosened, and the Orb hit the ground, rolling until it fell through a gap in the footbridge. Valkyrie didn’t hesitate and leapt off the bridge.
A ten-meter drop was nothing to her, but just as she spotted where the Orb landed, Gamora also jumped down. The two women noticed each other and came to a wary halt.
Valkyrie drew Dragonfang and sized up her opponent. "Gamora? Adopted daughter of Thanos?"
Gamora drew her own blade, cold and detached. "I don’t know you."
A duel between two women with swords was a rare sight, even in a cosmopolitan city like Xandar. Nearby residents stopped to watch, and the footbridge above was packed with spectators—including Star-Lord. He saw where the Orb was, but neither of these women were easy targets. In a fair fight, he couldn’t beat either of them, let alone both. Brute force was out; he needed a better plan.
At that moment, the raccoon and Groot quietly appeared behind him. They were bounty hunters; they didn’t care about the Orb—they were only there for the 40,000-unit bounty on Star-Lord’s head. Groot brought the black sack down over Star-Lord’s head.
"Mmph... mmph!"
Groot was incredibly strong; he hoisted the sack over his shoulder and walked away with the raccoon.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
On the ground below the bridge, the battle between the two women had begun. The sound of clashing metal was like music, and their agile, spinning movements were a sight to behold.
Gamora, as Thanos’s daughter, had been trained to kill since childhood and had spent years fighting alongside her father; her combat experience was vast. Valkyrie was a warrior of Odin, a veteran of the Valkyrior who rode winged steeds and wielded the legendary Dragonfang—a true powerhouse in her own right.
However, Valkyrie had spent over three years with Jason, and her body had been infused with massive amounts of cum energy, fortifying every cell. Jason had also used the Mind Stone to drastically enhance her physical attributes. While they might have been evenly matched in swordsmanship and technique, there was a massive disparity in strength, agility, and endurance.
Sure enough, within a matter of seconds, Gamora felt her hand go numb. Every time their blades met, the sensation deepened. After twenty moves, the numbness turned to sharp pain. The pain began to affect the speed of her strikes. Combined with Valkyrie’s superior agility, Gamora began to give ground, falling into a desperate defensive stance.
After thirty moves, Gamora’s brow was furrowed in pain; her palm was torn open, and her sword hand was shaking, slick with thick blood. Valkyrie, on the other hand, grew more ferocious with every strike. Having adapted to Gamora’s style, her offensive became a relentless, lethal storm.
Finally, Gamora faltered and left a fatal opening. Valkyrie seized the opportunity, showing no mercy as she drove her blade through Gamora’s chest before kicking her away.
"Ah!" Gamora cried out and collapsed, clutching her chest as her face twisted in agony.
Valkyrie didn’t move in for the kill; instead, she sprinted toward the Orb and scooped it up.
Suddenly, several Nova Corps ships appeared in the sky. Several beams of golden tractor-light shot down, pinning Valkyrie in place and instantly halting her movements.
"Citizen, drop your weapon. Your actions are in violation of public safety laws. In the name of the Nova Corps, you are under arrest!"
"Argh!" Valkyrie grit her teeth and struggled with everything she had, but the tractor beams held her limbs fast, making it nearly impossible to move. As strong as she was, she wasn’t at a level where she could defy the mechanical power of a starship.
Seeing her still resisting, the Corps issued a final warning: "Drop your weapon! Or we will be forced to use lethal force!"
The weapons bays of the ships opened, laser cannons locking onto Valkyrie.
"Fine, I surrender!" Realizing escape was impossible, Valkyrie reluctantly dropped Dragonfang, though she managed to slip the Orb into her pocket.
