Rick let go and wiped his bloody hands on his own ruined trousers. He continued down the stairs, Victoria and Rachel following closely behind. Rachel kept her hands over her mouth, trying not to vomit from the overwhelming smell of roasted flesh and ruptured intestines.
They reached the ground floor.
Rick pushed the door open slightly, peeking out into the hospital’s main lobby.
The lobby had been converted into a makeshift trauma ward by the Corporate Oversight squads. Medical privacy screens were set up everywhere, and heavy equipment was scattered around.
Through the reinforced glass of a set of double doors directly across the hall, Rick saw a small, brightly lit examination room.
He squinted.
Sitting in the absolute centre of the room, strapped tightly to a heavy metal surgical chair, was Marnus Warner.
"Well, I’ll be damned," Rick muttered.
Victoria stepped up beside him and looked through the glass. Her eyes widened in genuine shock.
"Marnus..." Victoria whispered. "He’s alive?"
Marnus looked like a walking corpse. His expensive suit was stripped off, leaving him in his torn, bloody underwear. His face was bruised and swollen.
The bullet hole in his stomach wasn’t bleeding anymore. The Oversight medics had plugged the massive wound with a thick, white, military-grade coagulant foam. It looked like someone had sprayed expanding insulation directly into his gut. It kept him from bleeding to death, but it looked incredibly painful.
Standing around Marnus was a four-man Corporate Oversight clean-up crew.
They weren’t wearing heavy tactical gear. They wore white aprons over their uniforms, heavily stained with fresh blood. They were torture specialists.
One of the men was laying out a set of heavy, stainless-steel surgical tools on a metal tray. Pliers, clamps, and a jagged, battery-powered bone-saw.
"They’re going to torture him for the location of the Precursor Core," Victoria said, her voice tight. She grabbed Rick’s bicep. "If he breaks, we lose everything."
"He’s a weak little rich boy," Rick scoffed. "He’ll break the second they plug that saw in."
Rick looked back at the two women. "Wait here."
Before stepping out, Rick reached out and grabbed Victoria by the back of her head. He pulled her face close and kissed her roughly, shoving his tongue deep into her mouth. He tasted her saliva mixed with his own dried cum. He pulled back, grabbing a quick, hard squeeze of her heavy left breast.
"For luck," Rick smirked.
He stepped out into the lobby.
Rick didn’t bother with stealth. He walked straight up to the double doors of the examination room. He raised his heavy boot and kicked the doors with massive, system-enhanced force.
BANG!
The reinforced doors blew off their hinges and smashed into the room.
The four torture specialists jumped in surprise, reaching for the sidearms holstered at their waists.
Rick was infinitely faster.
He raised his MP7 and squeezed the trigger.
BRRRT!
He didn’t aim for the chest. He aimed low. He shot the first specialist directly in both kneecaps.
The 4.6mm rounds shattered the man’s knees completely. The specialist screamed, dropping instantly to the floor, his legs folding backwards at sickening angles.
Rick dropped the MP7 on its sling and lunged into the room.
He closed the distance to the second specialist before the man could clear his pistol from the holster. Rick grabbed the man’s wrist, snapping it backward with a loud crack, and shoved him hard against the medical tray.
Rick reached down and grabbed the heavy, jagged surgical bone-saw off the metal tray. He didn’t bother turning the battery on.
He drove the jagged metal blade directly into the side of the second specialist’s neck.
Rick ripped the blade forward with brutal force. The jagged teeth tore cleanly through skin, thick muscle, cartilage, and the jugular vein. A massive, high-pressure spray of bright red blood erupted across the room, painting the white privacy screens instantly red.
The man dropped, clutching his ruined, gaping throat, choking on his own blood.
The third specialist managed to draw his pistol. He fired two wild shots.
BANG! BANG!
The bullets missed Rick, shattering the bright overhead surgical lights. Glass rained down on them.
Rick grabbed the heavy, metal defibrillator machine sitting on a nearby counter. It weighed at least thirty pounds. Rick swung it like a sledgehammer.
He smashed the heavy machine directly into the third specialist’s face.
CRUNCH.
The impact was devastating. The heavy plastic and metal crushed the man’s nose, shattered his jaw, and slammed his head violently against the concrete wall behind him. The man’s skull caved in with a wet squelch. He slid down the wall, leaving a thick, dark streak of blood and brain matter on the paint.
The fourth man—the boss of the torture crew—backed away in sheer terror. His hands were shaking so hard he dropped his pistol on the floor.
"Please! Don’t!" the man begged, raising his hands defensively.
Rick stepped forward. His boots squelched loudly in the puddles of fresh blood on the floor.
Rick grabbed the man’s outstretched hands. He squeezed the fingers together and crushed them with his bare hands until the bones snapped and popped under his grip. The man shrieked in agony.
Rick didn’t stop. He kicked the man hard in the chest, sending him crashing onto his back.
Rick stepped over him. He raised his blood-soaked boot and brought his heel down directly onto the man’s throat. He ground his heel down with crushing, ruthless force until the man’s windpipe collapsed entirely.
The room fell completely silent, except for the ragged, bubbling breathing of the last dead man twitching on the floor.
Rick stood in the centre of the slaughter. He was absolutely coated in fresh, wet blood.

[Clean-Up Crew Eliminated.] [Reward: 20,000 XP] [Reward: $5,000,000 added to account.]
Rick rolled his shoulders, dismissing the notification. He turned his attention to the surgical chair.
Marnus Warner was staring at Rick. His one good eye was wide with absolute, unfiltered terror. Marnus was pale, sweating profusely, and shivering uncontrollably.
"You..." Marnus gurgled, blood trickling from his bruised lips. He looked at Rick like he was looking at the devil himself.
Victoria and Rachel rushed into the room, stepping carefully over the mutilated corpses.
"Marnus!" Victoria gasped, rushing over to the chair. She looked at the hardened white foam bulging out of his stomach wound. "You’re alive."
"Aunt Victoria..." Marnus coughed. "Get me out of here. Please. Untie me."
Rachel stepped forward, her medical instincts kicking in despite the horror around her. She looked at the foam.
"It’s a trauma sealant," Rachel said quickly, her voice trembling. "It stopped the internal bleeding, but it’s highly toxic if left in too long. We need to get him to a real operating room immediately, or he’ll go into septic shock."
"Untie him," Victoria ordered Rick.
Rick didn’t move. He stood exactly where he was, his hands resting on his hips. He looked down at Marnus, and a slow, incredibly greedy, evil smile spread across his blood-stained face.
"No," Rick said simply.
Victoria stopped. She looked at Rick, her brows knitting together in confusion. "What do you mean, no? We have to move him right now."
"I mean, no," Rick repeated, his voice cold and strictly business. "My original contract was fulfilled. I saved Silas Warner. You paid me the fifty million for that."
Rick pointed a bloody finger at Marnus, who was groaning in pain in the chair.
"This right here? This is a completely new transaction," Rick stated flatly. "Carrying a bleeding, useless, pathetic sack of meat out of a corporate warzone is absolutely not in my job description."
"You extortionist bastard!" Marnus spat, weakly straining against the heavy leather straps holding him to the chair. "You work for us! Untie me right now!"
Rick stepped forward. He didn’t hit Marnus. He just grabbed a massive handful of Marnus’s bloody, matted hair and yanked his head back violently.
Marnus cried out in pain, exposing his throat.
"I don’t work for anybody, you little bitch," Rick growled, his face inches from Marnus. "I do what I want, when I want. Right now, Oversight did us a massive favour by plugging your bullet hole. It means you actually have a pulse to sell."
Rick let go of his hair and turned to look directly at Victoria.
"He’s dead weight," Rick said to her. "If you want me to carry this garbage out of this building, it’s going to cost you extra. A lot extra."
Victoria stared at Rick. She saw the absolute lack of mercy in his eyes. She saw the raw, capitalistic greed masking a highly lethal predator.
[Ding!]
[Target Information: Victoria Warner] [Carnal Calibrator: 100/100 (Absolute Submission / Fervent Lust)] [Feelings: Your absolute ruthlessness and refusal to bow to her family’s name turns her on beyond reason. She finds your greed incredibly dominant. She wants to obey you.]
Victoria felt a massive surge of wetness between her thighs. She crossed her arms, her breathing getting heavier.
"Name your price, Smith," Victoria said, her voice dropping to a husky, submissive tone.
"Are you fucking kidding me, Victoria?!" Marnus screamed. "Don’t pay this psycho another dime! He’s robbing us blind!"
"Shut the fuck up, Marnus," Rick snapped without looking at him.
Rick stepped closer to Victoria, invading her personal space. The smell of blood and violence radiated off him.
"Fifty million dollars. Liquid. Right now," Rick demanded. "Plus, the physical deed to the Warner real estate compound in the Diamond District. Unencumbered. Fully transferred to my name before we walk out that door."
Marnus gurgled in pure outrage. "The Diamond District?! That property is worth over a hundred million! It’s prime real estate! You’re out of your fucking mind!"
Rick ignored him completely, holding Victoria’s gaze.
"Do we have a deal, sweetheart?" Rick asked, reaching out to run a bloody thumb over Victoria’s bottom lip.
Victoria didn’t hesitate. She pulled her secure, encrypted corporate tablet out of her leather jacket pocket. She bypassed the biometric locks and tapped rapidly on the screen.
"Transferring fifty million to your offshore account," Victoria murmured, her eyes locked on Rick’s lips. "And the deed transfer for the Diamond District compound is initiated. It will clear the blockchain in three minutes."
Rick smiled. It was a cold, satisfied smile.
[Ding!] [$50,000,000 added to account.] [New Property Acquired: Warner Diamond District Compound.]
"Pleasure doing business with you," Rick said.
Rick pulled a heavy combat knife from a dead mercenary’s belt. He walked over to the chair and quickly sliced through the thick leather straps holding Marnus down.
Marnus slumped forward, groaning as the pressure hit his foam-filled stomach wound.
Before Marnus could even try to stand, Rick grabbed him roughly by the back of his ruined suit pants and his collar. Rick hoisted the grown man up effortlessly, tossing him over his right shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
The sudden movement made Marnus scream in agony, his face turning pale green.
"If you throw up on my back, I will snap your neck and leave you in the parking lot," Rick warned him casually.
Rick adjusted the heavy weight on his shoulder. He looked down at the blood dripping from Marnus’s leg.
"And you better not bleed on my custom Italian shoes," Rick complained loudly, stepping towards the exit. "These cost more than your life is currently worth."
Rick led Victoria and Rachel out of the examination room, leaving the slaughtered clean-up crew behind.
They reached the massive, glass front doors of the hospital lobby. The street outside was dark, illuminated only by the flashing lights of distant police sirens and the orange glow of burning cars.
Rick reached out to push the door open.
Suddenly, a massive, blinding spotlight clicked on from the darkness of the street, illuminating the entire lobby through the glass.
The heavy, mechanical hum of a massive diesel engine rumbled through the floorboards.
Waiting directly outside the front doors, blocking their only exit, was a heavily armoured, six-wheeled Corporate Oversight APC.
And the heavy, mounted tank cannon on the roof was aiming straight at Rick’s chest.
