Chapter 2987: 2987. Relaxed
With introductions aside and the room full of plants and vines that Alma grew on the spot, the wandering planter appeared to be a lot more comfortable.
It seemed that it was more than just a desire to return plants back to the world.
There was a comfort in being out in nature away from others. Being alone and truly united with it. However, Gil was confused about how this had happened. Whether it was just the desire to travel and general insecurity with others or if this elf had become exiled from a village for some reason.
Seeing that Alma was still standing and waiting for a proper introduction to start things off, the wandering planter finally showed some movement and removed their hoods and face coverings. The deep blue hue on their skin was exactly what Gil had somewhat worried about.
It was rare for the elves to manifest their affinities physically. The dark elves were often this way compared to the other elves but overall it was not so dramatic as this elf here.
Before the world had changed and returned to a proper flow and there were changes made toward Elven society, this trait would have been looked down on. Especially if this elf did not awaken a water magic system.
They would be different and unnatural toward the ice or snow elves in the north and most likely did not receive any assistance. Being left to be alone and without trust.
"I see now. So you are through and through an elf that was able to awaken their high elf blood and your affinity allowed you to become a glacial high elf. Certainly a step above the normal for most who enhance their affinities after being guided." With Alma saying this, the wandering planter recoiled slightly.
"Why are you unhappy with that? You know times have changed. People like you are examples to be followed. Examples that show there are those who were able to approach the true essence of the elven ways lost to time when we divided ourselves foolishly. Now, you can have a chance to do even more of what you care for."
"I have read reports and rumors about you. You are single handedly responsible for returning the purple snow berry, the alabaster pine trees, and even the flickering leaves vine in your travels. Now you have the tools that Genesis has created to do even more."
Picking up on what Alma was going for in this, Gil spoke up as well. "That means Alma has a job for you." Gil smirked with a bit of amusement since he knew that he would not need to worry about said job since he would be busier elsewhere. He didn’t really want more work after all.
"We have started to store certain seeds that can only grow in certain conditions, that need specific seasons, or are unable to be properly researched and cared for because we have not grown the right tools and skills yet. There are other reasons as well since we do not have everything we need from both the materials and people but we will have it all one day."
As Gil spoke, the wandering planter began to lean in. It seemed that the way that Gil was explaining the safety and storage of seeds was exactly what he cared for. Exactly what was able to bait him in to wanting to do more.
"I know you already must have seen the dragon tongue lily that was returned to the forest elf area. Among other plants, they were still alive and well within the elemental planes but extinct here. We returned them and now they are being planted while thriving."
This was even more enticing. "So, why don’t you start with sharing how to store seeds and sprouts in your methods with researchers. A small group of herbalists and farmers who work in storage areas researching the care of certain seeds. This way you will be able to take the lead when we are capable of planting them. You will also be able to choose an apprentice from there to venture with you. Someone with fire mana affinity or life mana skills that can grow those difficult to use seeds."
As much as this somewhat contradicted what else they had told the wandering planter, allowing for more choice here felt better. Pressure might make this elf wish to leave.
"And if you would like, you can speak to others about how you felt changes in your affinity even before the changes in the world. It may help children accept the ancient aspects of our race and grow as high elves."
Allowing them to be able to choose when they discussed their affinity and how it could be used when they wished was a major deal for the wandering planter. They had not wished to focus on that aspect but hearing about the value that the literal leaders of all elves saw in it made a big influence.
"When I was born I was named Eliot. My village merged with another and they rejected me because my system was only valuable for planting seedlings. Now I have a few quests trying to encourage me to focus on my affinity but I will not pursue them. I will be different."
The confidence that built and firm look showed that despite being pushed from his village many years ago the desire to stand for what he believed was powerful. It was exactly the mentality that Gil and Alma wanted to see.
"Then first, come meet a friend of ours. She is an alchemical brawler and she uses herbs constantly. We can first help you with potions that will grow herbs better. You can get a few copies of books from her and always rely on her or her alchemy guild if you are in need."
"Or you can just speak to me now since I came all this way after Gil sent one of his archers to run and bother me." Alma laughed lightly as she was surprised Gil had panned ahead of her.
"First of all, I have fire affinity, potions, and books or whatever. Second, You better be able to do whatever you can to grow more herbs because we need spider lilies, green back leaves, and whispering grass to be brought from extinction so we can make potions for newborn elves, humans, and demons. And third, don’t bother me if you aren’t ready to get a handle of what you actually know about seeds and plants."
Her rough introduction and burst through the door caused the wandering planter Eliot to nearly fall from his chair. However, the dried herbs, pouch of seeds, and potions she was placing on the table erased his fear and replaced it with wonder.
"These are extinct! I know because I tried to plant seeds and they failed when I was only just beginning to wander!"
"The whispering grass was gone from the world. We traded from a place now imprisoned due to their actions in the dark elemental plane. If you can bring it back then you can be the person who helped make potions from it that will cure the decayed lung sickness in some demon infants." Explaining it made the rough exterior and attitude from Remey seem like a front to Eliot’s eyes.
"Gil, get your new seed master up to speed sooner than later. I will be busy today with Ignus, we are going to see what changes are happening around that dungeon. Walker will need more information and I want to see if the herbs planted by some alchemists and herbalists testing things are affected by the additional fire mana." Remey was already out the door leaving Alma a little exasperated at her speed.
"And that was Remey, another hero title holder, master of the alchemy guild, and a bit rough around the edges. But she will help whenever you need it. She learned about herbs even though she was a brawler because she wanted to help her younger siblings at the orphanage. She also funds several orphanages around town. You will always have a home if you are helping her and her goals."
This seemed to be the best explanation since Eliot could understand the desire to help. The desire to make sure that there was the availability of herbs able to help everyone regardless of race or parents in the picture.
"I accept the position you have offered. I want a promise. One that states I will have support if I need to leave and travel."
"You can have that. We were hoping you might one day lead groups to plant seeds in the wilderness to balance ecosystems with the nature mages." Alma laughed sweetly as she stood up to guide Eliot to where the herb research would be. The timid appearance of this wandering planter seemingly erased now that he had understood the reality of what goals everyone here wished to achieve.
Especially the goal of acceptance and unity within Genesis, something he feared would not be true.
