Chapter 3003: 3003. Accepting Goals

"This shield I noticed chipped after I used it against a fire mana attack with earth mana mixed in. It made a wave of lava move toward it, so when I looked deeper I found out there might be an impurity in the metals. I don’t think it was from the crafting, but the finishing afterwards. The sealing liquid used might have been impure and you or I didn’t notice at the time."

Su has been showing off the smallest of small chips in a shield made for resisting heat and fire mana specifically. She had noticed the chip because she had cared for her shields and armor sets carefully. That was her duty to remain as a proper protector of anyone.

The reason the seal chip smaller than a fingernail was so worrisome to her was because that chip could cause the entire shield to break.

Many people would care for their shields and notice that without care the smallest dents would change how damage was received. It could cause the next attack to shatter the shield or to entirely break the shield in half with the minor dent or chip as the origin of the larger damage.

In battle that could mean severe injuries or entirely failing to protect the one that was supposed to be protected.

On top of this, if this chip was because of an error in forging, then the two of them had to revisit the reasoning behind their uses of materials for this set of twin shields made in the shape of rectangles to make a larger safe place.

She had requested this set of shields so that she could cover larger individuals if need be. And she tested these shields because she had to ensure that the work was done well.

However, knowing that she had learned from the wandering blacksmith and other crafters, Su had the knowledge to tell that this chip wasn’t because of the metal at all.

The wandering blacksmith ran a finger over the small chip and nodded silently before retrieving the small remnants of the saved sealing agent used.

It was a mix of several herbs, monster fats, and also some alchemy related concoctions.

Yet, as the wandering blacksmith took the small jar of sealant off the shelf, he noticed the cork sealing it was breaking down. It had degraded naturally because of the heat and time moving forward within the forge.

Without even needing more close looks, he showed the breaking cork and they both knew it was the sealant and there would need to be repairs made to the shield. Easily done and easily repaired. But the in depth look at this was showing the two younger crafters a new detail of crafting that they had not seen in detailed forging or crafting as a whole.

The two had been working in their own corners. Trying to achieve the goals of their quests by learning first from a few journals that Su and the wandering blacksmith had taken them to the archives to collect and learn from.

Not to mention an additional stack of copied books from the crafting guild itself.

As much as the two younger crafters wished to run head on in to their attempts at crafting, their quests were not something that could be done in a day. More knowledge was the first step and that was that whether they enjoyed it or not.

"It’s good to see the two of you working so hard. The more you read the more you build a foundation for your future. I bet that you will find answers to problems you don’t even know you will face one day." The cheerful entrance of Walker surprised them but the two pretended that they had been hard at work and not listening and watching what Su and the wandering blacksmith were doing.

Not that Su or the wandering blacksmith were hiding their interactions as Su showed various armors and shields along with speaking about ideas for more diverse armor and shield sets.

"I would have expected you to be very busy?" Su asked it like it was a question, but she saw that Walker was in agreement with her question like he should be busy but wasn’t. That spurred her curiosity a bit and she knew he saw it written on her face.

"I came to ask for some help. I wasn’t going to focus on elemental golems like the true sages since I did not want to start getting too far from my goals. But I realize I shouldn’t ignore their methods since they are able to do a greater amount because of developing those skills. I just need to do it in a different way since I am not of one affinity or limited to an elemental plane."

Seeing that Walker was accepting his limited ability as one person, Su understood that part of this train of thought must have been hurting Walker.

She knew he would literally carry the weight of the world if he had to.

However, she also knew that he had missed his own stress and how worn down he was from constantly growing the multi dimensional storage without realizing he had yet to increase the growth of his own body a bit more.

Yes he had trained and rested to improve that and repair his faults, but seeing that he finally came around to understanding another problem with his mentality was a good thing.

She trusted that Walker would delve in to solutions to use his skills properly and safely achieve his goals now. He wasn’t the kind of man to just look at a problem and keep allowing it to be a problem.

"So, what will you do?" The wandering blacksmith spoke out showing that he clearly knew Walker came to him not to just tell them that he was struggling with solving a problem.

"I want to craft golem bodies that can be connected to me through mana and act as extensions of myself."

He saw that this was not a surprise since he had led off speaking about the true sages and how they made golems.

"I know that the dwarven golems can be controlled by a captain or general without the need for control with a driver. I also know that the spirits can inhabit a golem core and control a golem, especially the new monster styled golems. So, why not make them connect to the eternal codex and allow my split mind skill to control them. See through them, move through them, speak through them, and even use magic through them?"

"Oh, you want to make golems you control with your mind?" This seemed simpler as su said it, but then she appeared to think a bit more deeply about it realizing that walker was speaking about making several other bodies almost entirely. Not just simple golems, but complicated magical constructs that would be able to act exactly like him if needed.

"The challenge will be in how complicated it will be. Also that it can handle larger amounts of manas when I use them through it. Or how it will even be able to be properly connected to me. I will need to learn or make new skills at the same time and it might take more than just us. That’s why I came here. All the dwarven blacksmiths and golem crafters have larger projects and I can’t take them away from all that because I want this or that."

The logic made sense and Su knew all too well that Walker would ensure that he did not interrupt the proper work to push Genesis forward that others were doing. He trusted them to do their best and would not let himself be a hindrance.

"A few retired crafters moved here. We can speak with them."

Retired crafters?" Walker and Su both asked in confusion since the wandering blacksmith rarely would say something like this. Let alone speak about people he knew like that.

With a wave of his hand the wandering blacksmith stood up but froze seeing the two younger crafters also trying to stand up. "You two keep learning." His sharp glare and strict words showed the true mettle that every crafter had and how these two younger ones needed to learn first and not run after the chances to see what crazy things Walker might be up to.

"I will follow you both soon, let me get these two settled in and drop off more shields and armor ideas in the pile." Su smirked knowing that she was going to set goals for the two that were so insistent on rushing forward.

Both the wandering blacksmith and Walker knew how harsh Su could be when training others. She did this to encourage them, not to harm them. But sometimes people needed tough love.
