(Next Day)

Kael woke up early the next morning. The dim light of dawn was just beginning to filter into the cave. He leaned down, placing two gentle, lingering kisses on both of Nuan’s pale cheeks, staring at her still face with profound affection.

He quietly got up and stepped outside the mouth of the den. His eyes fell upon the wet clay pottery they had shaped together, still resting on the flat rock from the day of the elk hunt. "Let it dry completely... by the time Nuan wakes up, she will see it and be happy," he murmured to himself, his voice thick with hope.

Turning back toward the cave, Kael took a clean piece of loincloth and dipped it into a hollow stone basin where fresh water was stored. He squeezed out the excess moisture and stepped back into the quiet darkness of the den.

Sitting cross-legged beside Nuan, he handled her with absolute delicacy. He gently wiped her hot forehead, then her cheeks, and then carefully traced the damp cloth down the smooth line of her neck.

He leaned down to press another firm kiss against her cheek. "Keep my smell there. The leaves hide my scent right now," he whispered to her unconscious body. He rose, walked back outside to rinse the cloth, and returned to gently wipe down her collarbones.

His eyes dropped to her chest, which was hidden behind the standard pack loincloth. "I take your consent on your behalf," he murmured softly, his large hands carefully lifting the top fabric to slowly, respectfully wipe away the sweat from her round breasts, trying to break the burning fever.

Meanwhile, the system, observing this entire sequence from deep within Nuan’s subconscious mind, let out a mechanical, heavy sigh.

[ Mate Kael is going to completely exhaust himself at this rate... Host’s body is not receiving proper cooling because it takes him too much time to fetch water... ]

[ ...Maybe I will break a few system rules for you, Host. ]

Suddenly, a faint shimmer of blue pixels sparkled in the dark air right beside Kael. With a soft chime, Nuan’s carved wooden bowl materialized directly on the dirt floor out of thin air.

Kael jumped slightly, his ears perking up as his eyes lit up with sudden joy. His tail gave a slow, hopeful wiggle. He leaned closer to Nuan’s closed eyes, his chest rising.

"Meek Savior!" Kael breathed heavily. "You woke up?! Nuan? You woke up?" He eagerly waited for her eyelids to flutter open, waiting for her sharp mouth to yell at him for touching her ’things’.

But Nuan didn’t move an inch. Her breathing remained shallow and faint.

Kael’s tail stopped wiggling. The light in his eyes darkened again, collapsing back into despair. He looked down at the wooden bowl sitting silently in the dirt.

"You want to help me... don’t you?" he murmured to the bowl, convinced it was a sign from her spirit.

He quickly took the bowl outside, filled it to the brim with fresh water, and rushed back.

He began dipping the cloth into the bowl, thoroughly washing her entire body to cool her down, making sure to avoid her heavily bandaged ankle, her torn left arm, and her private areas.

Once he finished, he carefully adjusted her clothing back into place.

He strode to the mouth of the den, poured the dirty water away, and refilled the bowl with fresh water.

Spotting a group of hunters gathering in the clearing, Kael bared his fangs and ordered sharply, "Bring some fresh meat liver for Nuan immediately!"

Returning to her side, he dipped the cloth, squeezed it, and rested the cool, damp compress directly over her burning forehead.

[ If only you were conscious, Host, this incredibly devoted act might have actually made you accept Kael as your true mate... ]

[ Sucks... I will record some of these moments for you in the system logs. ]

Kael continued the relentless cycle—dipping, squeezing, and placing the cloth on Nuan’s forehead, neck, and underarms to fight the fever. "I should not have slept so deeply that morning... I should have walked out into the woods with you," he murmured, his ears drooping in self-reproach.

[ If only I could enter the Host’s active conscious mind to pull her back... ]

[ If she doesn’t wake up very soon, I am afraid she will fall into a permanent coma due to physical and psychological trauma. ]

[ I will see what more rules I can override. ]

[ Protocol violation detected... ]

[ ...Ignoring restriction. Host must survive. ]

[ Putting System into Standby Mode... ]

[ SYSTEM OVERRIDE: Additional Setting – Inventory Access during Standby Mode: ACTIVATED. ]

The glowing blue system screen flickered violently before vanishing completely from her subconscious mind, leaving the internal data streams running silently in the background.

After some time had passed, Elder Nyra and Elder Syra slowly entered the den, carrying a large, green leaf filled with fresh, properly roasted liver meat. The rich, metallic scent filled the cave.

Kael quickly snatched the leaf from their hands. "I will feed her," he said, blocking them from getting too close.

"Alpha, you have to give her very small, tiny bites so she can easily swallow them without choking," Elder Syra advised gently.

"Yes, I know," he said, his eyes already locked on the meat. "Now go outside and send Koda here to my den!" Kael ordered.

Kael sat down beside Nuan. He looked at the roasted liver, and then looked down at his massive, heavy, clawed hands. "I am not clean," he murmured in frustration. He quickly ran out of the cave, scrubbed his hands thoroughly in the stone basin, and rushed back inside.

Sitting right beside her face, he tried to use his sharp claw to tear off a tiny piece of the liver, but his hands were simply too big—the piece he tore off was still much too thick.

"It is too big for your tiny mouth," he said softly to the motionless Nuan. He paused, his eyes scanning the floor until they landed on her stuff. "Oh... I know your tool!"

It was Nuan’s hunting knife, which the pack had retrieved from the wild boar’s throat and brought back.

Kael reached toward the steel knife, his hand freezing midway. He looked back at Nuan’s pale face, his chest tightening. "I’m sorry... I am taking it without your consent. You told me before that I cannot touch it, that it is very important to you. But right now... only you are important."

Kael firmly gripped the handle of the knife. He stared at it, trying to remember her movements. "She holds it like this... and like this..." he murmured, mimicking Nuan’s daily actions.

He tried to press the blade into the liver to slice it, but in his awkwardness, he was holding it completely wrong—the razor-sharp side of the blade was facing upward, while the blunt spine pressed against the meat.

"Alpha, it is held the other way!" Koda said softly, carefully stepping into the shadows of the den.

Kael snapped his head around, letting out a sharp, embarrassed growl. "I know that!!!" He quickly flipped the knife over, his face heating up.

"You called for me, Alpha?" Koda asked, keeping his voice respectful and low.

"Yes. You always watch Nuan closely when she works," Kael said, his voice dropping into a determined whisper. "Show me exactly how she made that hot meat soup for me before. Let me make her eat this small piece first, and then we will prepare it."

Koda nodded solemnly, his usual goofy demeanor replaced by absolute seriousness. "I will go outside, prepare the red evil’s power, and clean the smooth stones for the boiling water." He quickly ran out of the den to execute the orders.

Left alone again, Kael carefully used Nuan’s knife to slice a tiny, perfectly sized cube of the roasted liver.

Using the pad of his sharp thumb, he gently, slowly parted Nuan’s soft, pale brown lips, carefully slipping the tiny piece of nourishing meat onto her tongue, waiting patiently for her throat to swallow.
