Prince got hit.
Karl controlled the steering wheel with one hand as the car sped down the road. He and Prince had excellent coordination. When it was time to slow down, Prince would ease off the gas and hit the brake, and when it was time to accelerate, Prince would step on the gas to the floor. Together, they drove the car as if it were under the command of one person.
"Where did you get hit?"
"In the back, but I think it’s okay. The bulletproof vest saved me. At least I won’t die for a while. I’ll take control of the car."
Prince gritted his teeth to say a few words, then put his hand back onto the steering wheel.
A helicopter had already flown ahead, and what awaited them was a barrage of bullets. Suddenly, Karl said, "Find cover!"
They couldn’t let the helicopter freely shoot at the car. Zigzag maneuvers weren’t the ultimate means of survival, just a desperate way to test their luck in the short term.
Prince decelerated again, then abruptly took a turn and rushed under the canopy of a gas station.
The canopy was just a thin layer of metal, which certainly couldn’t stop bullets, but it could obstruct vision. Besides, there were people in the gas station, which might temporarily cease the helicopter’s firing to avoid accidental injuries.
Slamming on the brakes, Prince took a few deep breaths, then shouted, "We’re close to the highway; there’s an overpass there!"
After saying this, Prince floored the gas pedal again. The car screeched as it sped out of the gas station.
The intersection beneath the overpass was heavily guarded, but Prince didn’t follow the road. After leaving the gas station, he drove straight onto the lawn.
Many small trees were snapped, the windshield shattered into a web-like crack, blocking any view.
Karl used the gun stock to knock out the windshield to restore visibility.
Prince shouted at the top of his lungs.
Now it was gambling with death. If the car didn’t encounter an obstacle that could stop them once off the road, they could rush under the overpass, avoiding the helicopter’s fire. If they stopped midway, the firepower from the helicopter would be enough to turn them into a beehive.
As for what could be done even after reaching under the overpass, no one had thought about it. Looking two minutes into the future was considered far. It was about dealing with the immediate situation, taking one step at a time.
Miraculously, the car broke through the guardrail, crossed the green belt beside the road, and rushed under the overpass.
Less than a hundred meters to the left were a large number of police officers, and less than thirty meters to the right was the end of the overpass. Above Karl and the others was No. 10 National Highway.
The highway was very wide, so Karl and the others could fully avoid gunfire from the helicopter.
As soon as the car stopped, Prince immediately turned off the headlights and police lights.
"Get out of the car!"
Pushing open the car door, Karl was the first to get out. He immediately crouched at the car’s front, using his M4 to start shooting.
Not far away were police officers setting up roadblocks, with at least a dozen police cars and thirty or forty officers. Tianshan’s helicopter was bound to have elite squads deployed against them.
Accepting certain death was one thing; going to die without resistance was another.
Karl fired, and the police he aimed at fell three instantly. Then those officers quickly dodged and looked for cover.
Roy got out of the car on his own from the backseat, but Mike dragged Prince from the driver’s seat.
Without a night vision device, but with streetlights and police lights, Karl and the others weren’t completely without visibility.
The officers had already hidden, and Karl quietly said, "Spread out!"
After the four of them scattered, Karl took a deep breath and then shouted, "The police won’t rush in. We have at least two helicopters above us, surely carrying special forces ready to wipe us out. Right now, they’ll certainly land and deploy those operatives to block us on both sides, then wait for more reinforcements to come and completely trap us."
Mike spoke in a deep voice, "What do we do?"
Karl resolutely said, "Wait for the helicopter to land, and then we’ll pick a direction and charge through!"
To sit and wait for death wasn’t Cerberus’ style; dying on the path of assault was preferable. The enemy couldn’t be combated while on the helicopter, but there was an opportunity once they landed.
Sure enough, in just a few minutes, there was a helicopter landing on both sides, but it was unclear how many people got off from each helicopter.
"The helicopter is a police model S76, with a maximum of twelve occupants. There’s a chance!"
After saying this quickly, Karl immediately waved his hand, "Let’s charge through!"
Minor wounds taking care of severe injuries, there wasn’t even time to confirm Prince’s condition. Karl waved his hand and immediately charged ahead.
It’s widely known that a helicopter needs a flat open area to land, whereas Karl and the others were at the interchange of No. 146 Motorway and the highway, with gas stations and shops at several nearby intersections.
The helicopter landed on the lawn near a mall, where there were streetlamps and mall lights, which greatly benefited Karl and the others. Otherwise, without night vision equipment at night, they would have had no chance of survival.
Karl and the others quickly emerged from the small grove beside the road.
Fire exchange commenced.
Karl hit multiple times, and Mike and Roy also hit multiple times, visually knocking down four people. However, the submachine gun lacked power; the enemy was hit but not killed. Only Karl’s two shots caused the enemy to fall.
"Aim for the limbs!"
The blocking enemies wore bulletproof vests, and a submachine gun couldn’t penetrate them, so Karl was forced to give a command that greatly increased the difficulty of shooting.
Roy moved slowly, got hit again, and finally collapsed.
As he fell, Roy screamed, ".22, just go!"
Roy made his final contribution, informing the others that he had been hit with .22 caliber, which is 5.56mm bullets.
Prince voluntarily lay beside Roy, then shouted, "Go! Run! We’ll cover!"
Karl stopped advancing; he returned to the two and calmly said, "Brothers, this isn’t a mission; it’s just our road to death, why not die together?"
Roy pressed his stomach wound and then he smiled.
Wiping the blood off his hand on his pant leg, Roy laughed and said, "Okay, let’s die together, I should still be able to move, move for a little while longer."
Prince struggled to get up to one knee, then said solemnly, "Charging together won’t work. You two charge; we’ll cover and block the enemy behind, waiting for you to come back for us."
Karl nodded, then said to Mike, "The two of us charge through, solve the problem before the new helicopter arrives, then come back and get them."
Mike shouted, "Alright! Let’s go!"
"Let’s go then."
Karl and Mike launched another charge. They had to close the distance with the interceptors and start the final battle.
Was there hope?
No hope.
This was a path leading to death, but doing nothing wasn’t Cerberus’ style, that’s all.
