Mercenary’s War

Chapter 2565 - 2541: Empty Shell

Rebrov arrived in Yemen earlier than anyone else. He not only had to take the newly recruited artillery troops to adapt to the local climate and environment but also had to settle the missile troopers.

Actually, Rebrov didn’t have any experience leading troops independently before. When he was tasked with taking people to Yemen alone, Gao Yang felt quite uneasy. But people need opportunities to grow; if he took care of everything himself, others would naturally lack the chance to train.

As it turned out, Rebrov did a great job. During this period, he wasn’t idle. By the time Satan arrived in Yemen, there was already a combat-capable artillery unit.

As for the missile troopers, the situation was a bit more complicated. Before Gao Yang arrived, Rebrov hadn’t yet established a sense of identity and confidence with the Houthis Armed Forces to procure missiles, so all those missile troopers could do was engage in acclimatization training.

But now, the situation was different. The missiles supported by Grand Ivan hadn’t arrived yet, but the Houthis Armed Forces willingly handed over the missiles to Satan. Unfortunately, Satan’s missile troopers were still too few, and operating two sets of surface-to-surface missiles was already the limit.

"The missile models owned by the Houthis Armed Forces mainly include two types: Frog-7 and Scud-B type. I’ve heard about Tochka, but haven’t seen it. Now, we’ve taken over three Frog-7 missiles and one Scud-B type missile, but after verification, it turned out that the delivered Scud missile was completely useless."

Standing before Gao Yang and giving a report was Niva Nikolayevich, a missile officer recruited from Ukraine, holding the rank of Major, and formerly served as the Deputy Commander of the Sevastopol Missile 37th Division 2nd Regiment, with a major rank.

Gao Yang furrowed his brow, reached out to touch the missile in front of him, and said in a deep voice, "Can’t be used at all?"

Among the missile troopers in Yemen, the highest rank actually belonged to retired Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Matvey, but Dmitry’s rank was higher of his own. He was formerly the Deputy Director and Technical Instructor at the Central Direct-Report Strategic Rocket Forces 47th Combined Arms Area Training Center.

In terms of rank and actual position, Dmitry was indeed higher, but Dmitry did not have experience as a commander of combat units, so Niva became the de facto commander of Satan’s missile troopers, while Dmitry was instead Niva’s deputy, simply as a technical officer.

As Niva was the commander of the missile unit, it was naturally up to him to answer Gao Yang’s questions.

Niva was also a technical officer, but his temper was quite fiery.

"Yes! These damn things should be sent to the scrapyard! We have Scud, but Scud missile uses liquid propellant, it’s liquid! But look here? There’s absolutely no fuel injection truck here! None! What do we have? We only have an empty missile body but no propellant! Damn, I thought the propellant was possibly poorly stored and thus unusable, but I didn’t expect they actually didn’t have the fuel at all! These missile troopers here should be shot! Have they no basic common sense? A liquid-engine missile without propellant, hahaha! It’s just ridiculous!"

Niva was not just angry. He was nearly about to blow his top off, pounding the missile launcher vehicle in front of him, looking both heartbroken and furious.

Dmitry extended his hand from the side, gently patting Niva’s shoulder, and said in a deep voice, "Calm down, Niva, calm down. Cut down on extraneous, venting language, just answer the commander’s question."

Niva took a deep breath and then sighed at Gao Yang, "Sir, the Scud missile is completely unusable, it’s just an empty shell. The only use I can think of is to use this missile along with the launch vehicle as a decoy bait."

The Scud-B type surface-to-surface missile is a bit backward. It’s a single-stage liquid rocket-driven missile, requiring temporary liquid fuel injection before each launch, and requires a long preparation time to launch, and the error is quite large, basically impossible for accurate strikes. But the Scud missile has its advantages, which is a range of up to three hundred kilometers.

However, no matter how far the range of the missile, without fuel, it’s just an empty shell waste. Gao Yang really couldn’t understand why the Houthis Armed Forces would send such waste here.

"I will ask the Houthis Armed Forces if there is any liquid propellant. Maybe it’s their soldiers’ ignorance and they didn’t deliver the propellant."

Niva shook his head and said angrily, "Forget it, commander comrade, oh no, sir, abandon this idea. The storage of liquid propellant requires fairly high condition requirements. I really don’t believe they could preserve the fuel, so let’s just talk about these."

Niva pointed to the Frog-7 missiles, then said in an utterly helpless manner, "We’ve checked, thankfully it’s a solid-fuel rocket, we don’t have to worry that they don’t have fuel; it should be usable."

Gao Yang looked at the slightly smaller Frog-7 missile, and said with some relief, "Alright then, at least there’s some good news."

Niva grimaced a bit and said, "But commander comrade... Sir, Frog-7 doesn’t really count as a missile, because Frog-7 is only simple inertial guidance. To put it bluntly, Frog-7 is just a large long-range rocket."

Gao Yang paused for a moment and then said in surprise, "Frog-7 isn’t considered a missile?"

Dmitry said earnestly, "Frog-7 doesn’t have a guidance system. It relies on the launch rack for direction and height to determine the range, and relies on the rocket’s self-spin to ensure shooting accuracy. According to our definition of missiles, and in terms of actual function, Frog-7 indeed doesn’t count as a missile."

Niva sighed, and in a rather helpless tone, said, "But at least they can be used. I’m planning to test fire one, because I’m worried there might be issues. I have serious doubts whether these rockets, which still count as high-tech weapons to the Yemenis, could have been properly stored."

Dmitry, noticing Gao Yang’s increasingly displeased expression, hurriedly said in a feigned relaxed tone, "There’s still good news. At least Frog-7 has a range of over sixty kilometers. I think they can still serve some purpose."

Gao Yang scratched his head, exhaled, and said in extreme frustration, "I used to always think Frog-7 was a missile, really, I always thought so."

After giving a self-deprecating laugh, Gao Yang said in a deep voice, "Then we’ll keep these three Frog-7... missiles, at least they have some use. You guys can take them for test firing, and take care of your own safety. I don’t want anyone to get hurt during the test firing."

Niva was momentarily excited but quickly calmed himself down. Then he said to Gao Yang, "Are you sure you want to test fire all three rockets? We only have these three usable treasures. Even though they’re a bit broken, wasting them wouldn’t be good."

Gao Yang waved his hand, saying, "No worries, very soon, properly stored Tochka missiles will arrive. Just take it as a practice drill for you guys. Moreover, keep calling them missiles. It feels more reassuring that way."

Niva laughed, very happily saying, "There are missiles coming? That’s great! Give us a target point; we can test fire them now?"
