By the time we returned to the village, it was already dawn.

Work on deployment and concealment had to be completed before daybreak. But the advantages also come with disadvantages. For the artillery, Aden’s terrain isn’t as favorable.

Aden is surrounded by desert, with very sparse human habitation, and the desert vegetation is extremely scarce. Water sources are even more limited. The maximum artillery range is just over 20 kilometers, which means to ensure artillery effectiveness, they need to be within at least 20 kilometers of Aden.

Moving openly, back and forth in the barren desert is not advantageous for guerrilla tactics.

Furthermore, artillery has another issue, which is that the villages near Aden are all aligned with Hadi’s faction. This makes the water replenishment for the several dozen artillerymen a problem.

Unless the Houthis Armed Forces can provide enough safe villages to serve as bases, which is difficult as the Houthis have already been expelled from Aden and lack nearby strongholds. To secure a stable and safe base, a counteroffensive must first be launched to gain a few bases around Aden for artillery to hide and launch attacks.

Therefore, Gao Yang felt it was necessary to initiate a significant action to mobilize the Houthis Armed Forces for a large-scale counteroffensive.
