It was already evening, and Gao Yang’s convoy had arrived near Aden.
"Stop moving! Refuel the vehicles, and if anyone needs to use the restroom, do it quickly. This is our last stop."
The entire convoy came to a halt. Gao Yang looked at the GPS, then said over the intercom, "We’ll wait here. We’re very close to Aden City now, and we could encounter the enemy at any moment. Stay alert, everyone."
With Gao Yang and his team in their current situation, any inspection checkpoint would definitely lead to exposure, and they’d just have to force their way through, but that would surely alert the enemy.
So, Satan was waiting about a dozen kilometers outside Aden City, and once Hammer’s route was confirmed, it would take at most half an hour to reach them.
Gao Yang got out of the car, looked at the distant city on the horizon, stretched lazily, then said into the intercom, "Earth calling Moon Base, what’s the situation?"
"We’ve assembled a four-man team to delay the rover’s operation speed, to facilitate the recovery of Rover One. Rovers Two and Three are still in the repair shop, following Rover One. Over."
"Earth understood, over."
After finishing the talk with Tarta, Gao Yang picked up the handheld radio and said, "Target caller calling Archer, do you copy?"
"Archer copies."
"What’s the situation?"
"All set and in good condition, over."
"Await orders, over."
Gao Yang walked a few steps over to Rebrov and asked, "Is the artillery in position?"
Rebrov, carrying a radio, replied, "Not in position yet; they just reported their location. They’re expected to reach the designated position in half an hour, and another half an hour to complete preparations."
Gao Yang checked his watch and nodded, "There’s enough time. Inform me if anything happens."
For now, there was nothing to do but wait, at least until it’s completely dark.
Gao Yang and Rebrov both walked a few steps in the same direction. Gao Yang relieved himself, and just as he was zipping up, he looked up and saw the red sunset.
"The sunset is beautiful. It reminds me of a Huaxia poem that goes, ’A solitary smoke rises straight from the vast desert, as the long river falls over the round sun.’ Such poetic imagery."
Rebrov, dazed, said, "Sorry, Boss, but there’s no smoke or long river here, just desert. So should the poem be, ’Ah! The expansive desert’s sunset is round’? Isn’t that more accurate?"
Gao Yang shook his head with a frustrated expression, "You don’t get it! You just don’t! It’s about the imagery; do you understand imagery? Put these lines in Russian, and they lose all the imagery. Hmm, I’m reminded of another line, ’The setting sun is like blood.’ Hmm, isn’t this one fitting?"
Rebrov scratched his head and asked, "What does it mean?"
"The setting sun is called the remnants of the sun. Look at the red hue of the sunset; doesn’t it look like blood? That’s what ’like blood’ means. F**k, I can’t translate it. Let me ponder over this alone."
As Gao Yang was struggling with the verses and unable to think of appropriate lines while inspired by the sunset, Eileen walked over and asked, "What are you guys talking about?"
"The Boss is reciting poetry. He says the setting sun looks like blood, that’s what he means."
"Oh, Boss, recite a few lines for us."
Gao Yang struck a cool pose, then pointed to the setting sun and declared loudly, "The sun sets in the west, and the heartbroken are at the end of the earth!"
He said this in Chinese and then translated, "The sun sets in the west, the heartbroken person is at, at..."
The word for the end of the earth, Gao Yang couldn’t piece together; more precisely, he couldn’t find a suitable word to replace it. After thinking for a moment and finding no suitable word, he waved his hand and said loudly, "At the edge of the heavens, which is the faraway place."
Rebrov furrowed his brow and said, "The sun sets, the heartbroken person is far away? What kind of poem is that? What does that even mean?"
"I told you, you don’t understand! You guys don’t appreciate the imagery!"
"Isn’t it just that your vocabulary is so limited you can’t translate it?"
Seeing Eileen’s questioning look, a flustered Gao Yang retorted, "It’s just that there are no words worthy of such beautiful lines!"
Eileen frowned and said, "There’s blood, and heartbroken people; Boss, do you have any more auspicious poems to use? Do you have to be so, so..."
Gao Yang was momentarily taken aback, but then he confidently stated, "It predicts someone will bleed tonight, but certainly not us!"
Eileen shrugged and said, "Alright, many Shah people will indeed die tonight."
The sun finally slipped below the horizon, leaving one last glow in the sky. As Gao Yang was trying to find a few more fitting verses, he suddenly heard Tarta’s voice in his earphones.
"Emergency! A large number of doctors have entered Hammer’s intensive care unit!"
Gao Yang immediately asked urgently, "What’s going on? Is there a problem with Hammer, or are they preparing for a transfer?"
"Unable to confirm, wait. They’re preparing for a transfer; a large number of military vehicles have appeared at the hospital, and there are two ambulances parked downstairs. I suspect they’re preparing to move!"
"Maintain communication!"
The enemy’s response is quite rapid. We haven’t even fired the missiles to force them to relocate, and the Shah Intelligence Agency’s team is already moving.
Gao Yang looked at Rebrov and then shouted, "Tell the artillery to hurry up! Faster! Everyone get in the vehicles! Prepare to move!"
Gao Yang quickly ran back to his vehicle, shut the door, took a couple of breaths, and said in a fretful tone, "Luckily, we were prepared. The enemy is taking the initiative to transfer Hammer. Thank goodness."
Hammer was about to be moved, but the enemy’s route was still unknown. Gao Yang unfolded the map, looked at the Black Demon’s marked interception points, then checked his watch and said, not too confidently, "We should catch up, we definitely can!"
After waiting in the car for a few minutes, Gao Yang received Tarta’s report again.
"Someone’s been put into an ambulance, heading in the direction of the military base! Rovers Two and Three can’t track it; our four-man team is starting to move, over!"
It’s finally time to act.
Gao Yang took a deep breath and shouted, "Move out!"
The vehicles started heading toward Aden. Now, the sun had just set, and it wasn’t completely dark yet, not in line with Satan’s midnight operation plan, but there was no choice. They couldn’t very well ask the enemy to wait until midnight to transfer Hammer.
Gao Yang was about to turn off the satellite phone, but just as he was about to do so, the phone rang. He answered and heard Justin say anxiously, "There’s a situation. I think it’s normal but feels not too normal, so I thought it best to let you know. Just two minutes ago, an unidentified plane, a civilian flight, landed at Aden Airport. Anyway, it’s a bit strange."
