The General’s son had somehow managed to stay alive!
It had taken them a while to catch up with Khaldun because the woods that surrounded the Academy’s campus were so extensive and Shelby doubted they had even covered a third of it.
Jonas and Shelby breathed a sigh of relief, they weren’t out of the woods yet so the danger was still imminent.
General Wolfe could have easily paid a large sum of money under the tables to secure an easy admission into Paradise Military Academy but his only son Khaldun wouldn’t hear of it.
It was a rite of passage for the males in the Wolfe family to participate in the admissions test for Paradise Military Academy and Khaldun was no exception.
Once, Khaldun stepped foot onto the sprawling Paradise campus the General had no sway over the military academy and until he graduated Khaldun was on his own.
The General entrusted his friends from military prep school to look after his only heir.
Don’t be fooled by his soft doe brown eyes, Jonas was a fierce fighter that excelled in close combat.
He was tall, muscular and handsome in a popular idol sort of way.
Jonas’ hatred for being called a pretty boy was well known especially since he grew his blonde hair long and curly, he was always dressed in the latest fashion.
Even in this neck of the woods he wore an expensive tan shirt that fit him perfectly matched with dark brown pants and fancy suede boots.
Unlike Shelby who didn’t give a lick about fashion and just drew on a mismatched outfit of whatever was clean at the moment.
While Jonas stood guard Shelby ran over to where Khaldun lay and shook him, his chest moved.
Khaldun was gasping for air and Shelby breathed a sigh of relief.
"Shelby, where is he?" asked Khaldun.
"Who?" responded Shelby while looking around and seeing no one else besides the trio.
"Omega...’
"It’s just us. You must have had a delusion from all your accumulated injuries."
Khaldun didn’t respond but the stubborn look on his face meant he really believed an omega was somewhere nearby.
That omega has secrets and Khaldun intended to unravel them all.
Starting with that unique spirit landscape of the omega, when he had managed to force his way inside it was like reaching heaven.
Then he was repelled and shut out like a fallen angel by surging winds of spirit energy.
These gale force winds were much stronger than he expected since he was fooled by the pretty omega’s face.
Surprised by his defeat, Khaldun groaned inwardly.
The rewards to possess a suspected S-tier omega guide was too much to let the opportunity be wasted, he needed to act fast.
This admissions test was supposed to be boring but it was turning out to be a riot for an alpha who had been suppressing his nature up until now.
The hunt for the pretty little omega was on, it was such a thrilling prospect that the joy was instantly mirrored on his face.
"Are you questioning my sanity? I held him. I kissed his sweet lips. When I find him I will make him mine."
Shelby’ saw the expansion of Khaldun Wolfe’s dilated pupils as he reminisced about the imaginary omega.
His own pale blue-green eyes winced at those blunt words.
Only Khaldun was clueless as Shelby couldn’t hide the sincerity behind the love that he felt for Khaldun.
If only... he wasn’t an alpha but then it was a double edge sword.
For if he wasn’t an alpha he could not have been close friends with Khaldun.
So for the sake and posterity of their close friendship Shelby bitterly swallowed his feelings and focused on the matter at hand.
"Is he alright?" asked Jonas tensely.
Sitting up, the young man in question answered for himself, "I’m fine."
"How are the others?" inquired Khaldun grogrily, his head still throbbed with pain.
Right now they were still participating in the admissions test and Shelby briefly gave a terse report on the current situation.
Shelby shook his head sadly only Terrence survived and went ahead to scout the terrain the other three didn’t survive the ambush.
Despite the pain, his temper flared and Khaldun smashed the ground with his fist at the loss of his trusted comrades.
"Thank you Shelby and Jonas," he grunted appreciatively, "We are almost near the finish line and I couldn’t have made it this far without your help."
Jonas nodded in response while Shelby practically glowed from being praised by Khaldun.
Even though they were the same age everyone knew that Shelby lived for Khaldun with an adoration beyond hero worship.
He was so pleased with himself that his face turned beet red until all three’s attention was drawn to movement coming from the nearby bush.
To their relief at not having to fight again, Terrence stepped out from the bush, he looked solemn, the last leg of the journey is to hike an extremely high mountain.
Everyone groaned, after their group had been ambushed, it was a battle to the death and all four of them were mentally and physically exhausted.
Khaldun had it the worst, despite being the most heavily targeted it was thanks to him that this batch of assassins had been successfully wiped out.
Not only did Khaldun suffer from a backlash of serious injuries, not limited to a chest wound, the enemy narrowly missed his lungs.
It was a devastating blow that brought Khaldun to his knees from the blood loss and the intensity of the pain.
Shelby frowned, "how are your injuries?"
Clutching his backpack filled with ointment and bandages Shelby started to unpack but Khaldun gruffly stopped him, "no time."
Even though Khaldun had been unconscious for under a few minutes he was still the son of an S-tier alpha, and was expected to surpass his father’s achievements.
With a muscular and powerful physique, Khaldun’s body had the ability to regenerate limbs and heal itself quickly.
Shelby inquired, "Khaldun wait for us...where are you going?"
Khaldun sniffed the air, "No time to waste. I can still smell those pheromones of the omega nearby so he must not have gotten very far. He can run but he can’t hide forever. When I find that little omega I’m going to teach him a lesson he’ll never forget."
