Mindless Beasts

Chapter 31: Too late for regret

"What’s this?" asked Verde, eyeing the papers with curiosity.

"Oh just tying up a legal loose end. Just need him to sign the papers and make the dissolution of our engagement official," replied William stiffly.

It was out of respect for the partnership between the Duncan family and the Bloomington family why William was trying to end things properly.

He didn’t want any stain from his fallout with Sly to tarnish Victor’s reputation.

The omega in question paid the intruder no mind and had his attention focused on the big slice of strawberry cheesecake that Verde had placed in front of him.

Sly loved fruits and decided he would eat all the cake first and save the big single juicy strawberry for last.

"Couldn’t this wait?" rebutted Verde.

Just then William’s face turned black, he had lost a few close friends during the admissions test thanks to this omega.

Not to mention his dignity, thought William.

The omega just sat there devouring the cake like someone could snatch it from him at any moment.

Instead of focusing on what William had to say, Sly was acting as if William was of no importance and that irked him greatly.

Contempt flashed across William’s face.

From the way Sly’s little pink tongue brushed against the fork.

Or how he licked the whip cream off his finger.

Even the smudge of frosting at the corner of his lips was tempting

Was Sly trying to seduce him in front of all these eye witnesses.

If they were alone would Sly be undressing right now?

William momentarily regretted his brash decision to end things swiftly with Sly.

It was simply, just too late for regret.

"I agree with Verde, this could have waited. I already accepted our union being dissolved and gave a verbal agreement during the admissions test."

Sly then continued to finish eating the last of his cheesecake after his abrupt words.

Was Sly attempting to treat the dissolution of their marriage contract as a joke, William practically lost his rational at that moment.

William snarled, "Why should it wait? It’s because this useless omega managed to climb in some snooty alpha’s bed and bribe him with that delectable body of his. Is exactly why my beloved couldn’t get into Preston Hall to be with me."

"Then why don’t you just leave?" interrupted Khaldun.

The noisy hum in the cafeteria instantly slowed as everyone waited on William’s response.

Unlike William’s grand entrance no one heard when Khaldun and his entourage entered the cafeteria.

Despite their large bulky size they all moved quietly.

Sly nearly choked on his strawberry at the sound of Khaldun’s voice.

Verde was about to reach out to thump Sly’s back in case he was really choking.

Which earned him a disgruntled look from Khaldun.

So Verde’s hand discreetly returned to his plate.

Sly picked up the papers and ready quickly.

Seeing nothing out of the ordinary he signed the papers and got up from the table.

"Verde, let’s leave," said Sly with a slight frown on his face. "It seems I’ve lost my appetite."

Relieved, William snatched up the papers and tucked them out of sight.

He put some space between himself and Khaldun before offering a polite truce to Sly.

"If you were only half the omega that Victor is then I would not have bothered to strongarm you into dissolving our marriage contract. Since we are both attached to Preston Hall let’s live peacefully by avoiding each other from now on."

"Fine with me," agreed Sly.

Already halfway out the door without a backwards glance.

This nonchalant attitude confirmed to all the alphas in the room that Sly was now single, free and disengaged.

He practically admitted out loud that he didn’t care about William.

Much less aboutthe loss of an A-tier partner which intrigued them.

When it looked as if William was going to follow Sly, Khaldun gave him a look.

William practically ran out of the cafeteria in the opposite direction of Sly’s dorm.

"Terrence, find out about that alpha’s background and put a chokehold on him so that he has no time to fool around with Sly.

"Done," agreed Terrence.

Terrence had already started gathering information on that scum from the moment they encountered that coward in the woods

He hated that William had abandoned his friends to save his own skin.

"Rookies have it rough these days," said Verde trying to break the ice as they headed towards the dorms.

"I should be the one apologising, sorry you had to sit through that. It’s enough to give anyone else indigestion."

"Nah, I don’t mind it was getting a bit boring around here until you came and livened things up," added Verde generously. "Anyhoo, all your belongings were already sent to your room."

Sly nodded appreciatively.

While they walked off the food Verde pointed out a few things like the faculty lived on the opposite side.

Then came the largest dorm belonging to the alphas, followed by the dorm for betas.

Both dorms had a shared bathroom with multiple stalls for showers and toilets which was expected.

Sly was surprised when they walked past both dorms where in tarnation was Verde taking him?

They walked until they reached an overgrown garden and then Verde stopped.

"Lend me your pass," he requested.

Sly handed it over without a fuss.

After a few seconds the metal gate that went all the way up to the roof, so that no one could jump it, eventually opened.

"Welcome to your new accommodations princess, as a rare omega attached to Preston Hall you get some privacy."

"The security gate is a bit rusty because it hasn’t been used in ages. Most omegas avoid Preston because our Dean is an assshole who makes everyone earn their keep. So everyone was pretty shocked to see you."

"The last two omega’s that lived here one died and the other’s in a coma. If he manages to revive he will probably be discharged from the military hospital and unlikely to return here."

"This is a two bedroom cottage with a bathroom and kitchen. You’re also responsible for maintaining the garden out front and keeping the cottage clean. You’ll likely stay here alone until you graduate or unless another omega arrives or you bond with a sentinel."

"Oh," paused Verde, as if just remembering something important, "one more thing before I go. Tonight you’ll have to use the alpha’s shared bathroom to shower."
