Truth be told, having Khaldun reject his feelings, ultimately stung Sly’s pride, worse than the mutated wasps ever could.

"Forget I brought it up. I never should have asked... you have beta, alphas and omegas throwing themselves at you, even your best friend was willing to risk it all... so why would you even choose me?"

Just then tears slipped out of the corners of Sly’s eyes, Khaldun wanted to wipe them away but resisted the urge.

Sly didn’t even blink as the tears slid down his face and wet the bed, he just sat there silent crying and watching Sly cry made Khaldun feel worse.

"I always end up alone and it hurts," cried Sly. "Now you’ll just do the same. I’m tired of losing everyone I ever loved and cared for, it hurts so much."

First his mother threw her own life away giving birth to Sly, he should have never been born then his beautiful mother would still be alive today.

So far Sly felt he had not accomplished anything in life that was worth his mother making the ultimate sacrifice and risking it all just to save Sly’s life.

Unable to bear it any longer Khaldun succumbed to the inevitable, he sat down beside Sly.

Khaldun remained calm while Sly pounded his chest with his fists, it was a complete meltdown, a much needed catharsis, as Sly wept uncontrollably

Eventually Sly collapsed against Khaldun as the mattress sank from the pressure of their combined weights.

Khaldun admitted, "None of the others matter to me. In this and every lifetime I would always put you first and choose you above all."

Sly rested his head on the alpha’s chest after blowing his nose using Khaldun’s shirt.

"Thanks to the temporary mark you have also been exposed to those cheap drug induced pheromones," emphasized Khaldun. "I really like you Sly and we’ve already had a bad start. I don’t want to add this night to the list by taking advantage of the high we are both feeling from the aphrodisiacs. I wouldn’t want you to have regrets about our lovemaking later."

Sly knew that Shelby had tried to drug Khaldun through the temporary mark.

So he wasn’t surprised about being intoxicated but Sly honestly felt like making love to Khaldun was something he wanted for himself.

Why did Khaldun have to make things between them so complicated?

This was a very disappointing ending to a chaotic day.

Tears forgotten, a slow smile graced Sly’s tear streaked face.

His earlier tantrum had sapped the last of Sly’s energy and he thought Khaldun telling him to go to sleep may not be such a bad idea afterall.

"Khaldun?"

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For choosing me for no reason."

"... uhmm you’re welcome."

Sly giggled then drifted off into the oblivion of dreams leaving Khaldun wide awake and staring at the ceiling.

A few hours later, Sly woke to a message and an alarm set by Khaldun, the mattress still had Khaldun’s indentation but the warmth was long gone.

It was a very brief note that told Sly to get ready and that Khaldun would see him at the anniversary ceremony.

Sly woke up that morning with a headache, Khaldun had made a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast with a glass of orange juice, beside the glass were two tablets.

After eating then taking the pill his headache gradually faded but Sly still remembered everything that happened last night.

He dragged himself off to shower then hurriedly put on his guide uniform and the memories kept playing repeatedly in his mind.

Sly knew his cheeks were bright red, perhaps he could call in sick and skip the anniversary ceremony.

He couldn’t face Khaldun again, not after what happened last night, a stupid lapse in judgment, he just couldn’t.

Most embarrassing was throwing himself at Khaldun then crying bitterly when the alpha said no.

The loud buzzing sound at the door made Sly jump.

Since no one had used it before, Sly forgot the apartment and an intercom with a security camera installed.

So he could see who was at the gate before they could even reach his doorstep.

The buzzer was pressed again.

Then a familiar voice came through the intercom, "Sly? It’s Verde... I wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday before you go to the anniversary ceremony. Can I come in?"
